As a Canadian, I feel like this "Try That In A Small Town" discourse is getting comical at this point, the fact like a song like this in the Top 10 or even Top 5.
Watching the political climate down south lately (and seeing some of it trickle here too), I can't exactly say I'm surprised a song like this is taking off as a political statement. It was only a matter of time, hell there were multiple charting songs called "Let's Go Brandon" a couple weeks ago, and that "Boycott Target" song. It feels like I'm watching a South Park episode.

I'm not exactly offended or pissed, I'm just baffled.

The chart should be representative of the people consuming the music and sometimes it’s ugly. The more people complain about it, the more pleasure some will get in “owning the libs” so it’ll really only get bigger from here.

People respond by doing what they can to defend ‘their side’ whether it’s making a BTS song go to #1 to shut up the haters, helping a trans* artist go to #1 to shut down the phobes, or making a song with racist undertones big to own the libs. Some are stories of inspiration, some are petty, and some further highlight the ugliness of society.

This is a really tawdry, depraved, and embarrassing time for this country. It's bad enough to see this country give one racist enormous success, and now two with one having an explicitly racist song? The worst time as a chart watcher to follow the Hot 100.

2 days of sales. Never imagined that. Oh, well, that’s unfortunate, but not surprising considering the extreme media coverage. On the plus side, some Pulse members were concerned about LN threading OTR’s record. Be careful of what you wish for.

Poor Luke Combs - a real good guy - getting overshadowed and likely getting shut out of #1. I did notice Tracy Chapman’s OG hit iTunes Top 10 (before being pushed out by Kook’s multiple version). It’s awesome Luke introduced a whole new generation to a truly amazing artist. The album and her GH have also been doing well for a while.

Ugh, about those sales. On the bright side, the Jason Aldean song didn't even make the top 200 of Spotify's most streamed for the week. I'm also just looking forward to it having a massive fall. Conservatives won't keep buying it, and these past two days people were listening to it out of curiosity. It really doesn't have a redeeming quality that would keep casual listeners from coming back to it.

I think everyone (myself include) is tired of rebuttals and the arguments - and most probably know where I stand on both the song and the message it's sending - so I will try and be civil with a singular response and just say this:

having a "call to action against violence" doesn't mean you can't be criticized or that people have to agree.

Just an example. Since it’s the new song that I see people in here are worshipping, wanting to go #1. I actually don’t care, there’s nothing wrong with songs talking about sex or cursing words, what I don’t like it’s the double standards people use. I don’t like a lot of songs, so I just don’t listen to them and shut up and I listen to whatever I like. I don’t go hating on everyone else who likes a certain kind of song/music and insulting calling out names. People should do the same, if don’t like a certain thing, just shut up and move on, or speak up and don’t cry when you have people on the other side defending their views

Criticism is one thing, but people are insulting/throwing hate not only on the artist but on the people who like/enjoy a specific artist or genre
