Is this true? Itโd be amazing if it debuted at #1. An unsigned artist. The only other time I remember this is when Stay (I Missed You) by Lisa Loeb hit #1 as an unsigned artist. Has it happened other times anyone know? the difference is that Lisa wasn't an someย inbred hillbilly with a song that was probably written by chat-gpt to pander to conservatives.ย If this is the left's general response to that song then I get why these GOP chart-toppers are becoming more and more common. Some of the things that you people wrote about the artist in this thread are utterly disgusting and despicable and will result in nothing more than your shame when you reflect back on these comments (if you ever do). What you wrote in this thread is much more harmful than the song that you're criticizing is. With all that said the song is ass and I hope it doesn't come anywhere close to topping the charts

The lyrics to the song in question - clearly appeals to a lot of people who go through the same thing
Oliver Anthony, "Rich Men of Richmond" Lyrics: I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all day / Overtime hours for bullshit pay / So I can sit out here and waste my life away / Drag back home and drown my troubles away.
Pre-Chorus: It's a damn shame what the world's gotten to / For people like me and people like you / Wish I could just wake up and it not be true / But it is, oh, it is.
Chorus: Livin' in the new world / With an old soul / These rich men north of Richmond / Lord knows they all just wanna have total control / Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do / And they don't think you know, but I know that you do / 'Cause your dollar ain't shit and it's taxed to no end / 'Cause of rich men north of Richmond.
I wish politicians would look out for miners / And not just minors on an island somewhere / Lord, we got folks in the street, ain't got nothin' to eat / And the obese milkin' welfare.
Well, God, if you're 5-foot-3 and you're 300 pounds / Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds / Young men are puttin' themselves six feet in the ground / 'Cause all this damn country does is keep on kickin' them down.
Repeat Pre-Chorus
Repeat Chorus
I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all day / Overtime hours for bullshit pay.

Well if nothing else, this thread proves that posters on either side of the political spectrum can be just as annoying, insufferable, and are in need of grass or ass (or both)

If youโre strong in your beliefs, why do you care what someone behind a computer has to say? This thread is hilarious. Iโm going to smell and touch grass..

My guess is the people the song speaks to
The working class struggling to make ends meet

You probably need to be older to relate to the song and get it. Plus itโs not pop. The dude sings from his soul. Itโs a great song.

only older people can relate to a song that rhymes "pounds", "rounds", "ground", and then "down"

itโs incredibly difficult to comprehend that the safest country song (fast car) didnโt make it to the top but the other 3 problematic country songs this year did. I get Morgan Wallen is problematic but how is Last Night? the song itself isnโt problematic, just the artist

Calling him an inbred hillbilly is a tad out of pocket but thatโs not nearly as bad as the weird conspiracy shit Oliverโs pulling out and the exclusion of people on welfare as working class, both sides (whatever you define that) are not equally as bad

The Twitter predictors need to stop saying Cruel Summer is close to #1 for clicks tbh because without a push it's just not gonna happen.

First Week Streams for KAROL G - MAรANA SERร BONITO (BICHOTA SEASON) [5/10]: 17,016,265
Well this week was a lot messier than anticipated.
Looking at our Top 10, we've got a new #1 as bad idea right debuts with 10.61M streams. It narrowly beat Cruel Summer by 500K streams, as the Taylor fan favorite rises to a new peak of #2, being up 8.95%. All this while fukumean fell to #3, dropping by 3.44% in streams. Staying in the Top 10 for a second week was Paint the Town Red as thanks to going virla on TikTok, it was up 5.58%. But of course the biggest story of the week and the song expected to debut at #1 on the Hot 100 was the controversial Rich Men North of Richmond which debuts at #10 with 7.098M streams.
Due to a lack of big surprises - and because of a sudden ressurgence mid-week, UTOPIA well remarkably well; not losing any songs from last week and only being down 3.28%. But because of the lack of movement and notable new arrivals outside of the Top 10, there weren't a lot of movements this week. The only notable news was KAROL G's second album debut with 17M but only notching 5 songs on this week's chart.
Notable Gains: It's Getting Hot - 25% Like Crazy - 17% Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1 - 10% TQG - 10% Cruel Summer - 9%

If this is the left's general response to that song then I get why these GOP chart-toppers are becoming more and more common. Some of the things that you people wrote about the artist in this thread are utterly disgusting and despicable and will result in nothing more than your shame when you reflect back on these comments (if you ever do). What you wrote in this thread is much more harmful than the song that you're criticizing is. With all that said the song is ass and I hope it doesn't come anywhere close to topping the charts again. the guy thinks jews did 9/11. forgive me if i dont mince words on Oliver Anthony Cartman over here Well, all I will say is that if you hate everybody who believes in a conspiracy theory, you're not going to have many friends.

My guess is the people the song speaks to The working class struggling to make ends meet I really didn't want to get into "politics" but everyone else is so why not. I don't see how this is so controversial and considered "conservative". In the U.S., we have just gone through 12-18 months of near record inflation (yes inflation at the moment is back to normal levels but the damage has been done). For me, working 35-40 hours a week, I pay federal income tax, state income tax, sales tax whenever I buy anything, gas tax when I fill up at the pump, and I pay $2,400 a year to my township for my property taxes. Fortunately I'm more middle class and my other expenses are low so I can afford it but many people are struggling out there. Certainly there are far left liberal Democrats who are working full time and not getting ahead as well. The line about fat people on welfare - that's a bit cringy I admit. But to suggest that everyone on welfare are just down on their luck temporarily and that there is no fraud in the system is very naรฏve. Are ALL welfare recipients gaming the system? Of course not. But many of them are. And who pays for that? See previous paragraph. Similarly, here in Michigan they were handing out unemployment benefits like candy during the pandemic. Fast forward a year or so and here come the reports showing that millions of $$ were wasted due to people filing fraudulent claims. All of these concepts are captured in some way in the song. Since this is a chart thread, I'll end with this - Rich Men North Of Richmond is a truly viral hit. There aren't 10 remixes of the song, radio isn't accepting "payola" from the label to play it (he isn't even on a label). It's organic. I saw the earlier discussions about how the "right wing" outlets were pushing it... in a country with over 330 million people, you need some kind of a platform to promote an unknown song. In some cases it's TikTok. With others it is conservative media, etc. But this is something that broke due to current technology. In the past, say 15-20 and longer ago, this wouldn't be possible. The closest thing I can think of is when a radio station would flip the 45 over and play the B side and listeners would blow up the phone lines to create an unexpected hit. But yeah today you don't even need to be on a label to go viral and soar to the top of the charts.

But yeah today you don't even need to be on a label to go viral and soar to the top of the charts. Honestly, the fact that this viral song is from an unsigned artist should be a major red flag, especially since we know how close-knit the music community can be. Heck, Garth Brooks literally said the quiet part loud about the country radio in a Billboard interview. And I can tell you it's the same for streaming playlists. However, not only this song has been added to Apple Music's Today's Country playlist since the second day of release, this also has around 300 spins on country radio and almost charted on Billboard's Country Airplay chart this week. In contrast, Something In The Orange is viral from the start, but radio push did not start until last October. In Your Love is also quite viral, but hasn't appear on radio chart yet. Even Try That In A Small Town doesn't see radio bump until weeks after the controversy. There has to be some incentives for the industry to do these. Realistically though, nobody cares, but people deserve to know and be aware of these overused tactics.

Bailey Zimmerman & Parmalee Add Country Airplay Top 10s, Luke Combs Doubles Up in Top 3 "Religiously" and "Girl in Mine" each reach the top 10.
BY JIM ASKER
BBailey Zimmerman posts his third straight career-opening top 10 on Billboardโs Country Airplay chart (dated Aug. 26), as โReligiouslyโ rises 11-9. In the Aug. 11-17 tracking week, the song increased by 8% to 19.1 million audience impressions, according to Luminate.
The song, co-written by the 23-year-old, is from his LP Religiously. The Album., which arrived at its No. 3 high on Top Country Albums in May.
โReligiouslyโ follows Zimmermanโs โRock and a Hard Place,โ which dominated Country Airplay for six weeks beginning in April, and โFall in Love,โ which led for a week last December.
Back โInโ Top 10
Parmalee scores its sixth Country Airplay top 10 as โGirl in Mineโ climbs 12-10 (17.9 million, up 9%). The song is the groupโs first top 10 since โTake My Name,โ which reigned for two frames in June 2022.
Two Out of Three Ainโt Bad
For the third time since Country Airplay launched in January 1990, an artist claims two songs in the top three. Luke Combsโ cover of Tracy Chapmanโs โFast Carโ ranks at No. 2 (29.5 million, down 4%), following five weeks at the summit beginning in July, while fellow promoted single โLove You Anywayโ pushes 5-3 for a new best (28.2 million, up 10%).
Combs is the first act to earn the achievement as the sole artist on both songs. The other two to realize the feat are Luke Bryan and Tim McGraw.
Bryanโs โPlay It Againโ and Florida Georgia Lineโs โThis Is How We Roll,โ on which heโs featured, ranked in the top three for three weeks starting in May 2014, after McGrawโs โBring On the Rainโ (with Jo Dee Messina) and his own โThe Cowboy in Meโ shared space in the top three for two frames in March 2002.

The thing I'm reading is if the Swifties can get 50-100k people to download "Cruel Summer" in a tracking week, then she has it in the bag.
