Following Taylor's announcement yesterday, all of 1989 (deluxe) charts on US Spotify except This Love. Not sure what the holds will look like but Style is literally at #8; I'm guessing both Style and Blank Space will re-enter this week.

Edited to add another thought that is a little OT for hot 100, but she will absolutely fly by 10 mil SPS this year and while it's apple to oranges, it will be the first time an artist has 'sold' 10 mil albums in a calendar year since Britney and NSYNC did it in 2000.

Not a hot take at all at this point, and I say that as someone who grew up in the MJ era. Debating which of them is bigger is pointless (the same way pitting MJ against Elvis or the Beatles was pointless, because it's about so much more than just stats for all of them) but she's in the most elite company a pop star can be in. Whether you like her or not she's unquestionably taken her place among the all-time greats and it's exciting to watch it happen in real time.

Too bad that Taylor Swift can't sing to save her life while Michael Jackson was an outstanding singer and performer. The success that an artist with zero talent like Taylor Swift is experiencing is just due to today's mainstream mediocrity with the American music industry struggling to produce global superstars. Unfortunately in the past ten years, American labels jumped on the hip-hop bandwagon without realizing that around the world hip-hop won't produce stars in the same way that pop and rock do. The American music industry oversaturated the market with rappers that nobody outside of the US cares about. And now they are making the same mistake with putting all of their money in pushing country down people's throat. Nobody listens to country in other parts of the world.
All of the major international stars have come from outside the US in recent years - Adele, Ed Sheeran, Bad Bunny, Dua Lipa, Maneskin etc. Billie Eilish had a huge international breakthrough, but her follow-up already saw a decline in popularity. The fact that America is only left with Taylor Swift as a major player on a global scale shows how much the American music industry is struggling. Trying to capitalize on Taylor Swift's old material, which is by the way the epitome of mediocrity, really looks like a desperate move.

She doesn't get under anyone's skin. Unless you're deaf. I remember watching her performance at the grammy's in 2010 and being shocked by how terrible she was. She is so out of tune that you don't know whether to laugh or stab yourself in the eye. I have friends that jumped on the bandwagon and went to see her show because that was the "thing" to do this summer. Most of them left early and didn't even bother staying for the last five songs.

The funny thing is that people used to give Madonna all kinds of criticism for not being a good singer. Compared to Taylor Swift, Madonna actually sounds like a great singer.
