Featured might be underselling it even. The very first question of the debate directly centered around the song, with them playing a 30 second clip of it along with mentioning that it was the current #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

its over. he ran out of math symbols It’s crazy when he reached the end of the simple math symbols that’s when his career started to decline hard at least here in the US. He’s had a good decade long run however and it was legendary whether you like the guy or not.

I do feel he should take a break for at least a year. Don't release any new music until at least the end of 2024.

I actually respect that Ed is continuing to actively releasing more music than ever, even though obviously his career has been on a sharp decline commercially.
Too many huge artists start to semi-retire and take huge breaks soon as they have that “flop” period. (Katy, JT, Xtina, etc, etc)
Even most established names that still have pulled decent numbers seem to be taking longer and longer breaks between eras these days. (Rihanna, Adele, Cardi, Gaga, Ariana, etc)
It’s like music has become a “chore” or “eventual obligation” for many of them once they know they reached their peak and it’s no longer a passion or something they just want to naturally do.
You can look at discographies for older artists like Elton, Stevie, Dolly, Aretha, Prince, Barbra, etc and see they released dozens of albums year after year for decades straight not placing so much emphasis on each needing to be such a huge success. It kinda sucks releasing albums for mainstream artists now has to be some long drawn out process with a checklist of everything that has to go right with years of breaks between each.

^I think at this point, Ed Sheeran could be close to the point of being the type of artist who releases albums which serve him to have songs that he can perform on tour rather than intended to become chart hits.

Xtina had always took long breaks between albums and she usually had collaborations to hold fans over between eras early in her career. I think her peer Mandy Moore put a lot of music since "This Is Us" comeback with a few albums etc but still doing things to stay in the public eye. Britney well she had a few problems that has made albums harder to release and Jessica Simpson has moved on from music. BTW,Xtina just had a Spanish album come out last year.

Really hope we can have another quiet week because these past few weeks have been so noisy. And with the incoming Zach Bryan album bomb and a Drake album still reportedly coming soon, it won't be like that for a while.
Case in point: our top 10 where we've got a new Top 2 with neither song being debuts. Doja Cat makes history with the first solo female rap song at the top with Paint the Town Red going viral and being up by 45.76%. It managed to beat the #2 song by only 137K as right behind it is the controversial Rich Men North of Richmond which for better or for worse was up big this week by 46.58%. This left last week's Top 2 in a curious position as Cruel Summer dropped to #4 as its streaming is starting to peak, dipping a bit by 8.83%. The song with the harsher fall was bad idea right which depsite staying in the Top 10 at #8 fell by 35.58%, the biggest drop this week.
And as has been the case for the past few weeks, most of the notable happenings came in the Top 10. In fact for the first time in a long while, there were no debuts in the top half of the charts. And while there were a lot of movements upwards, most of that came at the expense of UTOPIA which overnight lost momentum and 8 songs from the album fell off the charts.
Notable Gains: Rich Men North of Richmond - 47% Paint the Town Red - 46% QLONA - 28% I LOVE YOU - 19% Need A Favor - 16% RUBICON - 11% Cowgirls - 10%

Country music is unstoppable. Even Luke Comb is dominating here in Australia. I'm glad they are becoming mainstream now. Even in UK RMINR is getting boost which is rare for a country music. Even Shaina Twain is currently in Top 20

^Regarding Unhealthy, that was definitely a surprise hit in the UK singles chart and Anne Marie actually sounds good in it, unlike in Baby Don't Hurt Me. Also, it needs to be pointed out that Last Night might have dropped out for good this week, and, Fast Car is still rising and I hope it would eventually outpeak it.
Finally, Luke Combs has done a nine date tour in Australia this month, which explains the rise of some of his older songs and Fast Car's next peak at #2 in the singles chart there.

Even Shaina Twain is currently in Top 20 RIP though that Fast Car is blocked by Paint The Town Red as Luke Combs finished his final shows in Australia leg of the tour. Otherwise it could be the second version (and the better version between the two) of that song to go to #1 there.

Apropos of "Paint The Town Red" when was the last time Bacharach & David were in the top ten as songwriters, was it "Slow Jamz"?

"The one thing that has bothered me is seeing people wrap politics up into this," the singer said a 10-minute clip posted to YouTube. The first Republican debate on Wednesday night (Aug. 23) kicked off with a question about this week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart topper, Oliver Anthony Music’s “Rich Men North of Richmond.”
“As we sit here tonight, the No. 1 song on the Billboard chart is called ‘Rich Men North of Richmond.’ It is by a singer from Farmville, Virginia, named Oliver Anthony. His lyrics speak of alienation, a deep frustration with the state of government and of this country,” co-moderator Martha MacCallum said to the candidates. “Washington D.C. is about 100 miles north of Richmond,” she continued. “Why is this song striking such a nerve in this country right now?” On Friday (Aug. 25), Anthony himself took to YouTube to share his thoughts about his whirlwind success, and about how his song has made its way into political discussions. “The one thing that has bothered me is seeing people wrap politics up into this,” the singer said in the 10-minute clip. “It’s aggravating seeing people on conservative news trying to identify with me like I’m one of them.”
He continued, “It seems like certain people want to ride the attention of this song to make their own selves relevant, and that’s aggravating as hell. The other thing that I find aggravating is, well, it was funny seeing my song at the presidential debate, because I wrote that song about those people. For them to sit there and listen to that, that cracks me up.”
Anthony explained that “Rich Men” has “nothing to do with Joe Biden, and it’s a lot bigger than Joe Biden,” before doubling down that the songs are written about “those people on that stage” and other politicians. “I hate to see that song being weaponized,” he added. “That s— has got to stop.”
Anthony’s breakout viral hit “Rich Men North of Richmond” debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. Among other chart achievements for the singer-songwriter, he’s the first artist ever to launch atop the list with no prior chart history in any form.

I actually respect that Ed is continuing to actively releasing more music than ever, even though obviously his career has been on a sharp decline commercially. Too many huge artists start to semi-retire and take huge breaks soon as they have that “flop” period. (Katy, JT, Xtina, etc, etc) Even most established names that still have pulled decent numbers seem to be taking longer and longer breaks between eras these days. (Rihanna, Adele, Cardi, Gaga, Ariana, etc) It’s like music has become a “chore” or “eventual obligation” for many of them once they know they reached their peak and it’s no longer a passion or something they just want to naturally do. Bruno Mars has definitely taken a long break in between his most recent solo project until now. I appreciated Silk Sonic but am eagerly awaiting new music from him.
