Doja Cat’s Scarlet (Kemosabe/RCA) is tracking toward a first week of 50-55k and the week’s top debut. On her heels, however, is an EP from Warner’s Zach Bryan. The 5-track surprise drop, Boys of Faith, is currently projecting to 45-50k. Lil Tecca’s new album TEC (Galactic/Republic) will open in the 30-35k range. The activity of all three top debuts is almost entirely from streaming.

After surrendering the top spot last week to Rod Wave, we’re giving the edge today to Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS (Geffen) for a return to #1.

I had a feeling this album was going to move less than “Planet Her”.

Hopefully the numbers grow throughout the week, otherwise… a disaster. 💀

Ouch at Doja. I would have expected these numbers if PTTR hadn't gotten traction.

So only 50k less than PH. Could go up, which still isn't bad. PTTR is still on fire, and "Agora Hills" could propel sales(and her tour) will keep the album afloat(or how long she plans to push it). It has the potential.

This is bad for Doja. There's no silver lining in these numbers. Crazy how much lower she'd debut with if PTTR hadn't gone viral a few weeks prior -- but that's making her cross the 50k line, so the proper single is working a bit.

She also has a very limited physical, but that was also true of Planet HER. She would have been wise to drop some more CDs to mask the drop a bit (like how Olivia got by on increased pure sales to ultimately improve on SOUR's debut with significantly less streams/hype).

I mean, Olivia showed a lot of strength in sales with Sour such that it would obviously be worth making a lot of physicals for a new album.

Someone like doja or dua have shown no signs of that.

Just shows a big hit will never ensure a good album performance. Although this is really just a product of a horrible rollout and a lot of people are literally scared and grossed out by the song titles and Doja’s image.

Dua still did 65k before being a household name in America. Given she knows how to market herself properly, there will be demand for her album with or without a hit. She’s not going to sell like Olivia but she’s isn’t some singles artists with no fan base like some of you think.

Because

1. Cardi is way more local, so she could have lower numbers globally but still have higher US numbers

2. Cardi is core Hip-Hop demo, so Apple Music was majority of her numbers. She did 100m+ streams globally first week on Apple, and overwhelmingly most would be US. Doja probably won’t even do 15m first week on Apple Music.

I assume she should be moving at least 100K after the success of two eras. Her social media presence did have an effect on her sales. In her case, if she has a good song, she will be fine with the public. She needs someone to manage her social media—like most of these new age artists. The “no filter” doesn’t work.

Oh, wow... yikes. I guess this is what happens when you're openly hostile to your fans. You can still get a hit song with the general public, but you won't have stans to pre-order and buy your album first week. And of course they dropped the ball with physicals/vinyls.

I like that the numbers are trending up, but confused about people who are saying there was a limited release for physicals when the CDs were readily available on Amazon and her website, as well as other retailers. This is not a Planet Her situation, in which physicals weren't available until much later than the release date of the album.

At midweek, the Top 20 will contain one debut each for the three major distributors. Kemosabe/RCA’s Doja Cat will deliver a Top 5 bow for Sony with Scarlet, while Warner’s red-hot Zach Bryan and his surprise five-track EP, Boys of Faith, will give WMG a new entry inside the Top 10 and Lil Tecca’s TEC (Galactic/Republic) will open in the Top 15 for UMG. Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS (Geffen) is headed back to #1 ahead of last week’s winner, Rod Wave’s Nostalgia (Alamo).

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got to go spike the pumpkin spice latte we ordered earlier.

I still think the Doja numbers are bad. PTTR is carrying hard and AH is showing some promise to be a single, but there's no "Ain't Shit" song catching on with audiences on it's own, or anything else showing much promise.

Scarlet should near/cross 75,000,000 streams on Spotify (global) this week. it's a solid enough debut, though definitely an expectedly sharp decline.

according to this tweet from last year, Invasion of Privacy debuted with 103,000,000 streams on Spotify.

Doja Cat's own Planet Her debuted with 149,400,000 streams, easily making it the biggest debut for a female hip hop artist.

so I'm not sure about that record.
