I created this survey based on each artist's most dominant era, which was also a remarkable time among their contemporaries during that specific year. Although there are many standout moments (25-Adele for example) , I've selected just one for each artist. I think 21 is more dominant. Same for Taylor Swift 1989 vs Midnight. I'd like to excempt The Beatles as we all know they are more dominant than the rest. Also runners up
Harry's House - Harry Style The Weeknd - After Hours Justin Beiber - Purpose Arianna Grande - Thank U Next Nelly - Nelly Ville Morgan Wallen - One thing at a Time George Michael - Faith
*Elton John doest really have standout album for me, He has sick longevity which is remarkable. Also I think Daydream by Mariah is overshadowed by Alanis' Album that same year making it sounds average for me although we all know its massive but Emancipation is more remarkable since it was one of the biggest comeback of all time and creating WBT as the 00's decades best 😅.

I voted for 21, Midnights Teenage Dream, Good Girl Gone Bad, and The Emancipation. I wasn't alive for a few of these though, so I am unsure of how culturally dominant they felt.

You don’t have to have been alive to know that Thriller was easily the most dominant era of all time. You can start with the fact that it’s the highest selling album of all time, being the #1 album of both 1983 and 1984. It had 7 top 10 singles at a time when even the biggest albums wouldn’t get more than 4 total singles. Three of those singles (Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller) have gone on to become iconic 80s staples that everyone still knows and loves. That doesn’t even include his guest appearances on Say Say Say and Somebody’s Watching Me, which were also gigantic hits in 83/84. They called him the King of Pop for a reason. Even his signature dance was iconic.

the Bee Gees era was huge for it's time in 1978 . they had 3 songs in the top 10 at the same time and were the first to do it since The Beatles. all three songs were also in the top 10 for the year as well. also in 1978 they wrote several other songs for other artists that were hits as well.

Some huge eras here, but I definitely would've voted for Come On Over.

Why is Let's Talk About Love on here for Celine over Falling Into You? LTAL really only had 1 major hit in the U.S. I think it had a couple more songs do well in the UK, but they weren't #1 or anything.

Thriller and Midnights. The way Taylor has dominated since Midnights' release has been pretty astonishing (even if I am a bit sick of her).

Let's Talk About Love was a gigantic album that sold more than Falling Into You globally (over 30 million), was released at the height of her fame/career, and housed her signature hit. Single success aside it was a phenomenon while Falling Into You was a slower burn through a string of hits over the course of a few years (though still unbelievably successful). Given the commercial album powerhouse she was in the 90s its inclusion instead of the former isn't out of place. The fact that it sold as it did off the back of "one major hit) as you say is even more impressive IMO.

Thriller Rhythm Nation Teenage Dream 21 The Fame/The Fame Monster
I feel like Taylor's domination is worthy of that top group for sure, but Midnights itself doesn't feel like a huge album in the same way if that makes sense. It's sort of a collective domination lol.
Also I'd either cut Bey and Mariah from consideration or add Jagged Little Pill and Breakaway.

The fact that it sold as it did off the back of "one major hit) as you say is even more impressive IMO. This poll is about an ERA, though, not just an album selling well. To me a dominant era implies not only strong album sales, but multiple singles hitting big and the artist having a general dominant presence. If there is only one real hit from an album, in no way is that an era IMO. It's also telling that LTAL was top 2 on the Billboard 200 for several months as Titanic was doing well, but then it fell out of the top 10 within 5 weeks of being top 2 and I don't think returned to the top 10. Eras like Thriller, 21, The Emancipation Of Mimi, Confessions, Jagged Little Pill, and even Falling Into You were ones where the album was still in the top 10 some 30/40/50 weeks after debuting and were sill producing hits. dbhmr I definitely agree with adding the eras two you mention, but why should Mariah get cut? TEOM was the #1 selling album of 2005 in the U.S., and it contained a huge #1 hit (that was also a worldwide hit). It also contained several other Hot 100 hits (including another #1), an R&B hit in "Fly Like a Bird," a TRL #1 in "Say Somethin'" and even a Grammy-nominated album track that received unsolicited airplay in "Mine Again." She was also used as a draw for awards shows and the like was performing everywhere. Her GMA appearance at the start of the era brought huge ratings that helped GMA beat Today for the first time in years. That was a huge era.

When I see “era” I think of general presence in pop culture in addition to the album and hits. Teenage Dream as an album wasn’t huge but it housed HITS and that’s why it’s big, plus Katy was everywhere so the era was giant. I agree more with LTAL over FIY for Celine as well because of the Titanic factor. As an era, Celine definitely felt more dominating in 1998 than she did in 1996. Midnights as an album, yeah, it’s big, but Taylor’s current era (if we called it the Eras era) is so much more than just that album. When people compare Midnights to Thriller, for example, it doesn’t compare. But Taylor 2023 with MJ 1983, it just might.

The Bee Gees (Saturday Night Fever) should be ranked high, and Donna Summer (Bad Girls) too... the songs are universal.

I think I'd even say that the Breakaway era was bigger than the TEOM era, as they were both around the same time.
