Even for the nostalgia, this one just doesn't make sense. I still have PTSD from that shit.

Yes I must say I am old enough to remember that Cassette Tape was always cheaper than CD back in the day when I went to the record store to buy new music for my favorite artist. So, I was in shock this year when I saw the price of a cassette tape is even much more expensive than a CD. I think they are now becoming a collector item.

I would venture that 80% of cassette sales are never listened to. Artists are releasing them as novelty collectibles, nothing more. I would say the same for vinyl. It has nothing to do with listening, its just a new line of merch.

While I feel most Gen Z (especially Taylor fans) who buy vinyl don't even own a record player and probably have zero intention of buying one, most people I know actually play their records.

Yeah, but to be fair - Taylor is making up most of vinyl sales for the last year lol
I know a lot of people who buy it to collect and I also know a lot of others who do actually listen.

I know a few people who collect vinyl (not many) without owning a record player.
I make it a point to play records when I'm cooking or otherwise hanging out in the living room not watching tv. I have one playing right now (Fumbling Toward Ecstasy). I'd say 10-20% of my music listening is through vinyl these days.
I sometimes play CDs too but don't listen to those as much since the CD player attached to my record player doesn't work. I bought a little boombox 2 years ago that just stopped working one day so I'm treating the replacement one I bought more delicately because apparently they don't make them like they used to (my 30 year old CD player I still have that was sturdy as a brick likely still works except the cord is frayed and I'm not comfortable enough to try to reconnect it myself).

You're me, LOL. But, I listen to my music primarily from my laptop, so my mp3s and occasionally streaming if I don't have it in my library. Then, I also listen to vinyl in my living room, mostly when I have guests to show off my collection, but occasionally when playing video games.

It has to be for collectors. The tapes often come off the spools and ruin the cassette. I bet most people buy them and never even open and play them.
