Couldn't she have waited until the TV special and announced the video release as a surprise? That might have been quite more effective. BTW, Mariah released her All I Want for Christmas Is You (Make My Wish Come True Edition) video on December 20, 2019, at the start of the tracking week, which is awfully clever. That said, it would seem RATCT will have its best  chance so far at #1 in the Hot 100, the tracking week after the special airs.

Didn't some weird stuff happen with "White Christmas" last year too? I definitely remember a few songs randomly getting totals for other songs combined on Spotify. I think Elton John's song was one of them too. How does Spotify not have this figured out?

Didn't some weird stuff happen with "White Christmas" last year too? I definitely remember a few songs randomly getting totals for other songs combined on Spotify. I think Elton John's song was one of them too. How does Spotify not have this figured out?

I found this post from last season. "WC" was getting the streams for "Holly Jolly Christmas" counted for it on Spotify for some reason. Perhaps it's happening again.

My yearly rant about recurrent rules: if a song has enough points to chart on the Hot 100, then it should be allowed to chart/re-chart, regardless of how old it is, or even whether it’s Christmasy or Halloweenie. It’s the stupidest thing to remove and/or not include a song if it falls below a certain ranking after a certain number of weeks. The Hot 100 should be comprehensive (currents and recurrents), just like the Billboard 200 albums chart.
