I know it's silly, but still. 1. yall say this about anybody (especially young girls) who breaks out in the industry, like this is clearly not true so stop trying to say this 2. she’s been releasing music since 2019 and has been getting pretty sizable hits up until this point, this isn’t coming out of nowhere. this industry plant label (that, again, mostly comes to young girls) is a very tired and overused statement which is always never true, so let’s start actually doing our research and stop using the term please. |

What does ‘industry plant’ even mean? This is a commercial industry…every label signs artists that they hope will become successful, since the label is investing money. It’s almost all about promo and resources. It has never been a meritocracy or an even-playing field, so why care if someone could be “planted” with a #1 hit?
I have also been noticing this person repeating this over and over again in threads…are they 17 or something? What is going on?

People love to throw around the term "industry plant," but I've yet to see an actual example. It's literally a label's job to promote their artists. And ultimately, labels can promote all they want, but they can't force people to stream a song. "greedy" is currently #1 on Spotify global. If labels could just make that happen by pulling some strings, why isn't everyone doing it?

There was a whole discourse earlier this year about how there's no more pop stars, and labels are having trouble breaking artists nowadays with the advent of TikTok producing tons of one hit wonders with no future in hitmaking. And then lo and behold here comes Tate McRae, an artist with charisma and choreography and visuals, and an artist that already has a couple hits under her belt, and now everybody is calling her an "industry plant." So like, do you want new pop stars or not?
It seems people are angry because it's not their "pop star" that's breaking out, I think that's how it goes. In another universe Sabrina Carpenter got a huge hit, or Rina Sawayama, or Victoria Monet, etc. and we'd be having this same conversation but with Tate on the opposite.

I think 'industry plant' could be classified in the same category as the phrase 'producer's puppet' basically they don't want to credit the artist for his/her success so they focus on other things that made him/her success. |
