You kid but I really wouldn't be surprised to see it end up top 10... Something In The Orange "only" peaked at #10 for one week and left in August and still notched a 13 spot, while I Remember Everything has a #4 peak within the 2024 YE range and won't hit 52 weeks until Septmber...

A song about the summer from 2019 (!) that had seemingly peaked in August (!!) managed to hit #1 for four weeks (!!!) in winter (!!!!), I think her team is pretty happy right now.

but why would she or her team care if Cruel Summer will be #37 or #40 on a decade-end list, what's the difference? I'm pretty sure they are happy with its success, she got one of her biggest hits without lifting a finger.
Really understand your pov, fans sometimes care more than the artists themselves (especially artists who have achieved everything), but what's the point of these charts when you can easily manipulate them?

I don't want to sound rude or something, but isn't it great that Cruel Summer achieved all those things (charting on the Hot 100 in 2023 - top 10 - #1 and then 4 weeks at #1) despite being 4 years old and not meant to be a single? I'm aware some people follow charts because of their faves and some because they just like music, stats and charts overall, but still...

I mean, obviously, but the song was never expected as a single, then it took off but was never expected to go top 10, then it did but was really not expected to get to #1, then it did, and has been for as long as it’s been so far. We’ve been beyond lucky with its performance and people are still complaining that it’s not enough. Life is more enjoyable when you can be grateful for the good things that happens. ☺️

But to directly address your reply, again, what’s the point? What’s the benefit to putting in work only to have another week at #1? Does a higher placement on a yearend chart or all-time chart get her or the label more profit? Songs are released to benefit the artist/album/era, not the chart. I think some chart watchers forget that the charts are a tool, not the end goal.

I’m sure they won’t film a MV at this point since it would have diminishing returns but releasing the Eras Tour Performance as the MV or releasing vinyls would only act as promo to prolong its shelf-life and would also be profitable. I get that being satisfied and appreciating its placement thus far is important, but it was literally 10k sales away from another week at #1. If it was 50 points away I woulda said no big deal but 10 points was doable. I mean I’m not losing sleep over it regardless. I’m glad Mariah will take over soon anyways.

As expected, Jack Harlow's Lovin On Me goes to #1 this week, his second solo single to do so after First Class and given the airplay this has gotten expect this to stick around even after the Christmas freeze. The song was up 20.54% as opposed to Is It Over Now's 17.53% as it fell to #3. Re-peaking in the Top 5 however is greedy which hasn't slowed down as it was up 20.45% (of course, it helps Tate edropped her new single this week). Re-entering the Top 10 are two songs that signified the two big stories this week: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree up a mammoth 72.14% and First Person Shooter rebounding back 31.9%

First Person Shooter as well as a number of songs from For All the Dogs was due of course to Drake dropping Scary Hours 3 as a deluxe release to the album. If we're just looking at the newest track, all the songs from SH3 debuted with a combined 20M, the lowest album bomb of the year. With Brenda Lee coming back to the Top 10, it's an even bigger sign that Christmas songs are unfrosting. Various holiday classics either re-entered or got big boosts and if you're sick of them now, might as not follow the charts for the next 4-5 weeks. But it wasn't just Christmas Songs and Drake that made a big splash this week. Off of the soundtrack and its movie, Can't Catch Me Now was up 51.95% and reached a new peak, and Surround Sound continued its new found virality by gaining 32.81%. And aside from Tate and Drake, Tyla got a remix from Travis Scott that boosted up the total streams for Water.

It terms of our losses, White Horse tumbled down 28.88% off of the album release last week, Now That We Don't Talk drops out of the Top 10 by 18.57%, Norther Attitude fell huge by 40.21%, and Houdini unfortunately was down 32.95%, let's hope it rebounds after the Holidays.

Finally with there not being any big album releases this Friday, this marks where I stop tracking the album bombs for 2024. For the second year in a row, Taylor Swift wins the award for the biggest album bomb for a year. Last year had Midnights and this year had her re-recording of 1989. Let's see if she can continue the streak next year.

It's legacy depends on standing the test of time and can it be popular and resonate with the public years later. Considering this song debuted in September 2019, I think it will be fine regardless of whether or not the label can buy another week at #1
