TOP 50 UPDATE: TIGHT RACE FOR #1

The three-horse race between Dolly Parton, Drake and Taylor Swift for #1 on the HITS Top 50 is too close to call as of Friday afternoon. With several key sales reports delayed due to the Thanksgiving holiday, we're going to hold our chart until tomorrow morning.

Parton's Rockstar (Big Machine) is contending for the legendary singer-songwriter's first #1 album debut. Could Dolly's viral Thanksgiving Day halftime performance in Dallas be the kicker?

Well that was anticlimactic. They did say there was a large margin of error in those midweek projections, and I guess that was the case with Drake and Taylor holding much better than expected and Dolly not trending up quite as much as expected.

Amazing that this is still Dolly's highest charting effort (whether she ends up #1, #2 or #3), decades into a VERY SUCCESSFUL career. I'm sure she's ecstatic about how well received this project has been regardless. Either way, still rooting Billboard may have her as #1 although that's a sizable difference in sales HITS has between #1 and #2.

HDD clearly doesn't get everything like Luminate since we've since quite a few differences over the years.

Unfortunately Dolly misses the Billboard 200 as well. The discrepancy is even greater there, with Drake coming in at 145k, Taylor at 138k, and Dolly at 128k.
