A super catchy throwback disco song by Sophie Ellis-Bextor. It was a huge top ten smash all across Europe in 2002, reaching number 2 in Britain, but it never caught on in the US outside of clubs. Thanks to a feature in the movie Saltburn it's finally gaining traction on Spotify and TikTok, so it might finally become a hit in America 22 years later. Kinda like what happened with "Running Up That Hill". Honestly it sounds like something Dua Lipa might release now, so it doesn't really sound dated by 2024 standards. Well or it means dua just takes sounds from 20 years ago True, but Sophie was taking 20 year old disco sounds in 2001. Everything is cyclical.

this has to be bait. jake harlow is literally up by half a million streams on spotify while being #2 on AM while others are quite a few spots away

It’s so obvious Jack is going back to number one and The only songs I see going number one next is Cruel Summer (again) and Greedy.

I'm not sure how the new Lil Nas X song will do but him and Ariana better release something soon. 2024 needs to start with some spice.

this has to be bait. jake harlow is literally up by half a million streams on spotify while being #2 on AM while others are quite a few spots away I thought so too, but I looked on the previous page in this thread and I think they took that straight out of the article written by Billboard (that's why they phrased it "Billboard's top contenders" and didn't show their own prediction numbers which show it's definitely not a tight 6-way race in reality lol). So if anybody accuses them of bait they can say they're only repeating what Billboard said.

^It might be able to challenge it if both streaming and radio lose slowly. As long as the competition continues to stay weak that is and there no major album bombs that makes it go recurrent for good.

Could Snooze break Dua’s record with the most weeks for a female on the hot 100?!?! Not unlikely IMO, especially if LANA (SOS deluxe) drops at an opportune time and gives it a cute boost.

Could Snooze break Dua’s record with the most weeks for a female on the hot 100?!?! She does have a little more than 20 weeks to go and Snooze is in a much higher position on the Hot 100 rn than Levitating was in the beginning of 2022. She can probably get there if the song stays stable enough. If this year starts as stagnant as 2022 that will be even better for it. country songs still 4 out the Top 11. Morgan's longevity is crazy. If only Stapleton was among that tier, that way we can have 5 country songs in the top 12 and have what is by far the best one be part. country songs still 4 out the Top 11. Morgan's longevity is crazy. Will Morgan break the Heat Waves record? I'm not sure why you're asking on him to beat the record when Snooze is right there. Jokes aside, with how stable his streaming has been i can imagine him getting pretty close to the record. Not sure if he can actually get there (the lack of radio will hurt after all) but he could. Though tbh i feel Thinkin Bout Me has a better shot given the current pop radio push even if it has worse streaming,

Will Morgan break the Heat Waves record? I'm leaning towards a run like SITOs 66 wks, maybe 70 at most. I don't think LN can survive enough album bombs to chart thru Halloween. If we're making that comparison it does have better streaming than SITO did during this time at it's run (though that was before it's 3rd or so streaming wind happened) and it also has more radio...

The song reigns for a 36th week, matching the command of Maroon 5's "Girls Like You."
Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” ties for the longest command in the history of Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, adding a 36th week at the summit on the ranking dated Jan. 13.
The single matches the command of Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” in 2018-19.
Here’s an updated look at the songs that have dominated Adult Contemporary the longest.
Most Weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart:
36 (to date), “Flowers,” Miley Cyrus, beginning April 15, 2023 36, “Girls Like You,” Maroon 5, Nov. 10, 2018 35, “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd, Nov. 7, 2020 28, “Drift Away,” Uncle Kracker feat. Dobie Gray, June 7, 2003 24, “Easy on Me,” Adele, Nov. 13, 2021 24, “Shape of You,” Ed Sheeran, May 6, 2017 22, “Perfect,” Ed Sheeran, Feb. 24, 2018 22, “Hey, Soul Sister,” Train, July 3, 2010 21, “Hello,” Adele, Nov. 28, 2015 21, “Breakaway,” Kelly Clarkson, March 12, 2005 21, “A New Day Has Come,” Celine Dion, March 30, 2002 20, “Memories,” Maroon 5, March 21, 2020 20, “Just the Way You Are,” Bruno Mars, Feb. 5, 2011
The Adult Contemporary chart ranks titles by weekly plays on a panel of over 80 adult contemporary radio stations. The tally began in Billboard‘s pages (as the “Easy Listening” chart) on July 17, 1961; once Luminate data began powering the chart exactly 32 years later (July 17, 1993), lengthy reigns became much more common than before. (Airplay is now provided to Luminate by Mediabase.) “Flowers,” released on Smiley Miley/Columbia Records, previously topped the mainstream top 40-based Pop Airplay chart (which began in 1992) for 10 weeks and the adult top 40-focused Adult Pop Airplay ranking (which dates to 1996) for 17 frames.
Notably, the single’s combined 63 weeks atop Adult Contemporary (36), Adult Pop Airplay (17) and Pop Airplay (10) mark the most for any hit. The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” ranks second with 61 weeks atop the charts combined, followed by “Girls Like You” (55); 51 songs have led all three lists.
“Flowers,” which Cyrus co-wrote, launched at No. 1 on the all-genre, multimetric Billboard Hot 100 last January and ruled for eight weeks, becoming her second leader. It’s from Cyrus’ album Endless Summer Vacation, which debuted at its No. 3 best on the Billboard 200 albums chart in March, marking her 14th top 10.
“Flowers” went on to land No. 1 finishes on Billboard’s 2023 year-end Radio Songs and Adult Pop Airplay Songs charts.
All charts dated Jan. 13 will update on Billboard.com Tuesday, Jan. 9.

The AC radio format is a dead format. Same old damn songs for months at a time.

"Murder on the Dancefloor" watch:
Back on the UK charts, soaring back on all the way up at #8!
#7 on last week's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart! Now that still would leave it well below the Hot 100, but with momentum (and depending on whether or not it would need to hit the top 50 to chart due to recurrent status) it could make it onto the chart!

The AC radio format is a dead format. Same old damn songs for months at a time. It really is. There's still quite a few stations with what used to be "Hot AC" and is now "Adult Pop", but stations with a distinct pure AC format (what was in the past called "Easy Listening") seem to be on the way out. The line between Adult Pop and AC seems blurry. I imagine that songs that chart in the lower ranges of the AC chart don't require all that much airplay to get there.

AC isn't dead, it's actually probably the most popular radio format as crazy as it sounds. It gets the top ratings in almost every major city, also the current top 2 for example have 12 million audience on Mediabase with 2,500 spins. Yet on Top 40 the #17 song needed 5,300 spins to get 12 million audience (translation: a hit on Top 40 had to be played over 2x more to achieve the same audience level).
It's just AC radio stations have completely transitioned into only playing recurrent music. I'm not even sure why the chart still exists as it is, when 95% of music played on AC is recurrent and cannot chart so... 95% of the format's music played isn't reflected on the chart. Which is why the numbers look so miniscule and basically all the songs that are on the AC chart below top 10 always seem obscure since they really aren't being played by most stations whatsoever.
AC misewell be Classic Hits format. HAC is basically I guess now what AC used to be, a good portion of recurrent music but there is still somewhat heavy emphasis on current hits while also being a place for veterans past their prime like Maroon 5/P!nk/etc to get decent rotation with new music.

"Popular" had almost 4 million Spotify streams for the tracking week; audience is around 1 million or so. With a weak post-Christmas chart, could it re-enter near the bottom? I wasn't expecting it, though who knows.
