Interesting that along with One Of The Girls moving up on the US Spotify chart, Popular is right behind it at #36. I'm not sure what's causing the resurgence, maybe Fortnite? The Weeknd's emote plays the song.

The Weeknd's emote plays the song. Yeah itβs Fortnite. His specialty event and items will be available till mid-February so that gives the song plenty of time to be exposed to countless teenagers and young adults throughout the country.

And great for Sophie Ellis-Bextor to be on the list. Murder on the Dancefloor is one of the catchiest pop songs ever and I wish it was more famous in the US, 181 on US Spotify. Freaking tf out, curious to see how far the Saltburn->TikTok effect takes it.

^ How did Rihanna get to be #1 on that playlist? Good for her I guess. I'm curious to hear that Tiesto remix of Barbie Girl. The funny thing is I have no idea whether it's from 1998 or whether it's from 2023 becaus Tiesto was actually already famous when Barbie Girl originally came out. And great for Sophie Ellis-Bextor to be on the list. Murder on the Dancefloor is one of the catchiest pop songs ever and I wish it was more famous in the US, The Tiesto remix of 'Barbie Girl' was a new mix to capitalise on renewed interest and attention from the Barbie movie. It wasn't part of the original remix package. As for Sophie, that would be a viral throwback hit I could absolutely get behind. 'Murder On The Dancefloor' is fantastic and the music video is brilliant!

"Popular" hasn't returned to the Apple Music top 200, though- is Abel just focused on Spotify for the cross-promotion? though "Popular" was never as - erm- popular on AM as it's been on Spotfy. It peaked in the 40 and dropped out of the top 200 after a couple weeks for so, only briefly returning a couple of times shortly thereafter.

I used to be a radio listener. Iβm always late to new technology and even I havenβt listened to radio in years unless Iβm in a friends car. However most friends just plug in their phone so we donβt normally listen to radio. Iβm assuming ITunes and now Streaming has killed off radio. Of course casual music people will still throw on the radio, but people who are willing to still pay for it in some way most likely wonβt. Why? If you can stream or listen to a song you want to overplay why would you wait for the radio to play it???

Last Night back in the top 10, and possibly top 8β¦ Ugh radio really does need to be devalued from the BB formula.

The problem with radio is on radio's end. Not Billboard's.

Last Night back in the top 10, and possibly top 8β¦ Ugh radio really does need to be devalued from the BB formula. so do playlists like TTH. you: "but you can skip songs on a playlist" me: "but you can switch the radio station" it's all the same, imo. If anything, SALES should be boosted in the BB formula.

Last Night back in the top 10, and possibly top 8β¦ Ugh radio really does need to be devalued from the BB formula. Last Night would be charting higher if radio was devalued. 73% of its points came from streaming this week (according to TOTC). But still I agree radio should be devalued more.

Mostly streaming actually. Even the week before this Last Night is predicted to have gotten about 73% of its weekly points from that component. Sales is generally the weakest weekly component for most songs and doesn't provide stability to keep songs afloat in the long run anymore.

Better take: Radio should be gone completely. Why? Literally millions of people still listen to the radio. Why should that be ignored? I just find it funny people were bitching about holiday music clogging up the chart, but now without it we have old ass songs like Last Night, Snooze, and Cruel Summer still in the top 10. Without holiday music to shake things up for 1-2 months and album bombs that shake things up for a week at a time, the top 10 is very stagnant. That's also because people clearly like hearing the same songs over and over.

Pulse: βThe Hot 100 should only chart songs I like by the artists I like and not the ones Iβm bored with and/or never liked in the first place.β

Sales is generally the weakest weekly component for most songs and doesn't provide stability to keep songs afloat in the long run anymore.Unless you're a BTS stan or a redneck conservative............The average best-selling song on the Digital Sales chart struggles to push 12,000 sales weekly nowadays. But a small group of less than ten thousand rabid fans on social media or a controversial song that gets pushed by dumbass rightoids so they can brag on "owning the libs" can easily pull in 100k in a week, debuts at #1 atop the Billboard Hot 100 only for it to quickly fall down the chart in less than six weeks. If the early 2020s chaos on the Billboard Hot 100 (especially 2023) showed us anything, it's that Billboard needs to eliminate the Digital Sales chart and replace it with a unit tracking chart or something!

So we have eliminate sales and radio going on in this thread.
The streaming chart covers that one.

Sales is the last metric that should be de-weighted or eliminated, itβs the most active form of consumption that we track - a listener paying money to own and hear that specific song.

Except for this one, streaming and sales are actually keeping it more afloat. Mostly streaming actually. Even the week before this Last Night is predicted to have gotten about 73% of its weekly points from that component. Sales is generally the weakest weekly component for most songs and doesn't provide stability to keep songs afloat in the long run anymore. I guess what I was looking at is that it seems to be ranking higher in sales than in airplay (currently #11 on iTunes vs. the 20s in airplay).

Radio just needs to rotate songs a bit quicker and we wouldn't have this issue each time.

Last Night back in the top 10, and possibly top 8β¦ Ugh radio really does need to be devalued from the BB formula. Do you want it back in the top 5 or what?

Better take: Radio should be gone completely. Why? Literally millions of people still listen to the radio. Why should that be ignored? I just find it funny people were bitching about holiday music clogging up the chart, but now without it we have old ass songs like Last Night, Snooze, and Cruel Summer still in the top 10. Without holiday music to shake things up for 1-2 months and album bombs that shake things up for a week at a time, the top 10 is very stagnant. That's also because people clearly like hearing the same songs over and over.and with streaming, they can. They can literally listen to the same song on repeat for how many times and it counts? I'm not sure. Radio plays a popular song once an hour and I reckon people are only listening to the radio to and from work. So it's not 10 times a day. It shouldn't be devalued. if anything should be devalued it should be FREE STREAMS.

Wow will "Murder on the Dancefloor" become the first "Running Up That Hill"/"Sure Thing/etc of 2024? It's actually crazy how "now" that song sounds when it didn't match the US musical scene at all during its actual time of release.
Speaking of music inspired by that sound, am I seeing things or is Dua's lead single really almost out of the Top 100 200?! already?
Also, "What Is Love" by Zimmer90 seems to be on every single Instagram reel these days - surprised it hasn't appeared on the Spotify list yet.
