Houdini barely got a boost even with a Grammy performance. She is about to have a really rough era One song does not determine the era. She just came off the Grammy and Golden Globe nominated song, I don't think anyone is worried.

She is about to have a really rough era If you're talking about the daily Spotify numbers as they're posted here, we haven't seen the immediate post-Grammys numbers yet; the most recent numbers are for February 5th (day of), and we don't have the numbers yet for Feb 6th (day after).

Nope. Grammys were Feb. 4. Feb 5 Spotify is out: Flowers re-entered at 40; Fast Car (Tracy' Version) debuted at 73, etc. Dua's day-after Grammys numbers: 85 +2 Dua Lipa - Dance The Night 464,445 +59,230 119 +9 Dua Lipa - Houdini 414,168 +68,510

That's really sad about Toby Keith, stomach cancer is a rough way to go. I wonder if we'll see any of his songs re-enter? He had an insane number of hits and a large fan base, so I could see his passing having an impact on the Hot 100. As of writing he has 2 T20 & 2 more T40 AM songs along with flooding Digital Songs. So I expect something somewhere. If Tracy Chapmanβs Fast Car didn't have such a huge lead he'd be #1 there too. But I expect a bigger BB200 than H100 impact, given there's no album RC rule and we only have 3 sales & streaming days to work with.

The other songs are cited do show noticeable Grammy win/performance boosts.

With Universal Music Group and TikTok clashing over licensing terms, at least 17 tracks on Billboard's TikTok Top 50 chart can no longer be used on the app.
More than one third of the songs β at least 17 tracks β on Billboardβs TikTok Top 50 chart are no longer available for use on the app after Universal Music Groupβs negotiations with the platform fell apart last week. UMG said the Bytedance-owned company refuses to pay βfair value for the music.β
The missing tracks include several of the most popular songs on TikTok: Muni Longβs βMade for Meβ (No. 2 on the TikTok Top 50), Xaviβs βLa Diablaβ (No. 7), Drakeβs βRich Baby Daddyβ (No. 9), and Lana Del Reyβs βLet the Light Inβ (No. 11).
The absence impacts both recent releases β Ariana Grandeβs βYes, And?β along with a pair of songs from Nicki Minajβs December album β and catalog: Lesley Goreβs βMisty,β originally released way back in 1963, and Sophie Ellis-Bextorβs βMurder on the Dancefloor,β which came out in 2002 but charted on the Hot 100 for the first time recently due to a synch in the film Saltburn.
Users still appear to be able to still make videos with an official βorchestral versionβ of βMurder on the Dancefloorβ β likely because itβs licensed to a different label. And even though UMG and TikTokβs licensing agreement expired, 10k.Caashβs βAloha,β which was released by the UMG label Def Jam in 2019, is available to soundtrack TikTok videos as of Thursday morning.
In addition, TikTok has long had a vibrant bootleg scene, which means that in some cases, users have uploaded their own versions of UMG songs or made remixes in place of the official sounds. Those bootlegs were also a source of frustration for the record company, which said last week that βTikTok makes little effort to deal with the vast amounts of content on its platform that infringe our artistsβ music.β Itβs worth noting, however, that labels often encourage remixers to rework their artistsβ songs without the proper clearances in the hopes that it starts a viral trend.
TikTok has been a dominant force in the music industry since 2019, transforming both marketing and signing strategy. βWe fully immerse ourselves in the diverse subcultures of TikTok,β said Alec Henderson, vp of digital at the independent label APG, in December. βWe have weekly meetings dedicated to sharing things that weβre seeing there. We view the TikTok viral chart with a competitive mindset. And we put a high emphasis on working with artists that are native to the platform.β
As the industry became increasingly focused on TikTok, it also became increasingly uneasy about the platformβs power. The app started to get saturated β with brands, movies, videogames, cats, ASMR, and more all battling for attention β which made marketing music both more expensive and less effective. Labels are used to having some level of influence over promotional levers; TikTok proved frustratingly hard to leverage.
Tension over the platformβs low payouts started to grow as well. TikTokβs parent company, ByteDance, βdoesnβt view music as a value add,β one senior executive told Billboard in the fall of 2022. βThey just view music as a cost center they have to limit as much as possible.β
βThe [payout] numbers are horrifying,β said a manager at the time. A marketer who oversaw the campaign for a single that was used in roughly half a million TikTok videos, earning billions of views, found that his artist took home less than $5,000 from the platform. It was no surprise when UMG CEO Lucian Grainge fired a warning shot late in 2022, noting pointedly at an industry conference that a value gap was βforming fast in the new iterations of short-form video.β
Last week, Universal Music Group said that its license agreement with TikTok was set to expire on Jan. 31. βTikTok proposed paying our artists and songwriters at a rate that is a fraction of the rate that similarly situated major social platforms pay,β UMG said in an open letter. The record company accused TikTok of trying to βintimidate us into conceding to a bad deal that undervalues music and shortchanges artists and songwriters as well as their fans.β
After UMG issued its statement, TikTok hit back, accusing the record company of promoting a βfalse narrative.β Itβs βsad and disappointing,β TikTok added, βthat [UMG] has put their own greed above the interests of their artists and songwriters.β These comments elicited yet another response from UMG.
If the standoff between the two companies continues, it will start to affect even more music: At the end of the month, TikTok will have to take down any song that Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) has a stake in. Many UMPG songwriters collaborate with artists signed to other labels (or are signed as artists on other labels). This means that the number of songs that become unusable on TikTok could balloon.
Artists can market their music elsewhere, of course β TikTok has competitors in both YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. However, neither of those apps have demonstrated the ability to break a song with the speed and intensity of TikTok.

I also found out Toby Keith signed Taylor Swift to her 1st Record Label. He jointly owned Big Machine Records in 2005. So without TK we might not have TS.

I also found out Toby Keith signed Taylor Swift to her 1st Record Label. He jointly owned Big Machine Records in 2005. So without TK we might not have TS. Yayβ¦β¦β¦β¦

From the weekly "Trending Up" article:
βFast Carβ Keeps on Driving After Grammys Performance
Though she hasnβt been nominated at the awards since 2010, Tracy Chapman was unquestionably one of the biggest winners from the Grammys on Sunday night (Feb. 4). She made a rare public appearance at the ceremonies to perform her signature 1988 smash βFast Carβ alongside country superstar Luke Combs, whose cover version brought the song back into the mainstream in 2023. The much-buzzed-about performance has led to days of celebration of Chapmanβs at times under-recognized legacy β and, of course, a whole lot of βFast Carβ consumption.
βFast Carβ racked up 949,000 official on-demand U.S. streams on Monday (Feb. 5), the day following the Grammys β up 241% from the 278,000 it notched the prior Monday (Jan. 29). Thatβs a big gain, though itβs nothing compared to how the song exploded in digital song sales, soaring 38,400% from a negligible amount to nearly 14,000. The Combs version also saw some huge gains over the same period, rising 37% in streams to nearly 1.6 million and nearly 3,900% in sales to just over 6,000.
Could it be enough for Chapmanβs βFast Car,β which originally peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988 to return to the chart? Itβs not impossible, though it will have to do well enough to make the top half of the chart to be eligible for a re-entrance, due to Billboard chart rules about catalog songs. If it keeps cruising through the week on its early momentum though, it may have a shot β and as of Wednesday, it was still No. 2 and No. 52 on the daily U.S. charts for iTunes and Spotify, respectively. β ANDREW UNTERBERGER

Well their TikTok removal ain't gonna help those artists any either (though I'm sure Taylor and Drake will be fine regardless).

Itβs incredible really, cuzβ¦..how the hell is a song that automatically becomes terrible because its artist DOESNβT know how to sing or scream and literally couldβve been done better by anyone else, is rising all the way to top?
Hope Jack maintains a radio lead to block that song until a rightful competitor comes for him.

Hiss is gonna drop even harder. There are 2 more days in the tracking week and I see it bleeding streams into the Wednesday and Thursday Spotify US updates. It might go from debuting at #1 to dropping to as low as #19 in its second week.
Can't even be surprised. The song is terrible and only performed as well as it did because of controversy and the attention Nicki brought to it by doing the most. Cobra was a much better song and that didn't much. Same with Bongos.
I don't see whatever album she ends up dropping doing much damage either because I believe most people don't care to genuinely support her music but I'm all up for being proven wrong.

Can't even be surprised. The song is terrible I mean, first off, you're wrong, and second, regardless of the song's quality, it's always going to have a hard time doing well beyond the beef because it doesn't really have much pop appeal. The fact that it even debuted at #1 is already pretty miraculous.

Yeah I donβt know why people keep applying pop hit trajectories to songs like HISS that are anything but

I can agree with this, the drop was expected, but not this big imo. If HISS was hyped and streamed by more Nicki's haters than Megan's fans, I don't see any impressive numbers with her future project(s). Time will tell, but it'd be better for her to release something ASAP.

Hahahahahaha I LIVE for the hypocrisy in βoh, itβs a rapppy rap song making wavesβ or βMeganβs quality music is sticking with peopleβ. And then the song literally in its second week falls from #1 everywhere to top20 - and keeps tanking. And now the excuse is βoh, but itβs not popβ. Make it make sense. If it were a Niki song yβall would be saying βwell of course, it was 95k sales first week. The GP didnβt like itβ. Bffr π
