My top 5 in no order:
"loml" "The Tortured Poets Department" "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" "But Daddy I Love Him" "Down Bad"/"Clara Bow"
So hard to even whittle down as they're ALL so close.

"This is the album I was praying for. It's giving maroon. It's giving so it goes. It's giving don't blame me. It's giving dress. It's giving clean. It's giving is it over now. Etc" If this description is accurate, I will adore this album. I cannot and I am so impatiently waiting.

All I'll say is that I'm happy with it and I look forward to reading everyone's reactions on Friday {Spoiler} Is the Black Dog edition the leak we're all listening to? Just a disclaimer, I'm not asking for anything except clarification lol

{Spoiler} "So Long, London" actually shook me with how bitter it is. Definitely the one that stuck with me the most after my first listen through the album.

And DBM has long been my #1 Taylor song, so…. yes and yes

Definitely the one that stuck with me the most after my first listen through the album. {Spoiler} To add to this, Joe can be declared safe. The songs about him paint their relationship as one that grew from love into quiet resentment (and she alludes to his apparent depression affecting things), and it seems they drifted apart. Definitely sounds like a lot of regret with how things ended there. The songs about Matty, though, oof. She hates that man lmao. I’m kinda gagged by how much of the album is about him, honestly.

Man this album is so disappointing. It’s like a mid midnights for me. This tweet says it all for me. The only song I liked was “I can do it with a broken heart”. Zero radio singles on here too. Agree 100%. Broken Heart is actually fantastic, but the rest is so mid.

It’s her first for me where I neither adore the whole album nor absolutely love at least a few songs. “Florida!!!” is as good as it gets. It plays like a 1989 TV vault tracks expanded edition, with the songs on 89 TV being the singles and these the album cuts.

I remember a distinctly muted response for Midnoghts as well and now people claim it's one of her best eras so...
Also seen a lot of stan fights on Twitter. Ariana, Beyoncé and Taylor dropping so close to each other I guess...

I maintain the reversal on Midnights has everything to do with the totality of the era and the tour and just how everything really came together for her. I think that album winning AOTY will prove to be one of the more baffling of the 21st century; on its own it's just...fine.

My friend texted me and said “we need to talk about the music industry” and I said “you mean Taylor Swift?” And he said “yes…”
I’m super excited to have avoided leaks and am SUPER excited to get up tomorrow and go for a walk (or run) to listen to the album. The workout will match the intensity lol.

Ariana, Beyoncé and Taylor dropping so close to each other I guess... I was going to say this as well because I definitely recall people not feeling that album when it first was released. And this might be a generation thing/me becoming an old codger, but everyone using the term “mid” to describe something just immediately flags themselves as likely Gen Z and therefore less likely to be someone I agree with (in terms of taste for something), so maybe there’s still hope for the new album in terms of my personal opinion lol. Edited to disclaim that all that is not to say that their opinions are any less valid than mine, but rather that it’s different, just so nobody takes offense.

How are the Post and florence features? curious about them if people are enjoying it! Does the Post song sound like it would/could be a pop hit?

When we are dealing with an artist of this caliber, everybody has their own personal expectations. So when the album doesn’t sound / feel / give the vibe you personally wanted, it’s easy to chalk it up to mid or less than.
Now, I haven’t heard it yet.
But going off track record, I am not worried. I look forward to deep dive into her artistry and finding my own journey. I’ve kept my expectations totally muted so I can go in fully open.

I think that’s why Folklore and to a lesser degree the Evermore surprise release ended up working so well for her. No time for unhinged theories or back and forth about the potential sound. And same. I’m waiting for tomorrow but after revisiting her entire discography, I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever be worried about her not serving.

I genuinely think most of the people who don't like the album were just hoping for something different like an album of anthemic radio-ready hits with glossy production and huge sing-along choruses and that's where they're going to be disappointed. This isn't close to Lover or "Cruel Summer" (her last hit) should I say, it's much more inline with Folklore/Evermore with a soft alt/pop sound. So if that's what you're going in expecting of course it is going to be disappointing and it's going to sound "mid" or "boring" to some. It's not their personal taste, but to say it is a *bad* album is crazy. And honestly I don't take reviews like "rate the music" seriously at all, especially when there is a good portion of the public itching to b*tch and moan and tear her down lately for the slightest thing with how big she's gotten. I'm more curious how her fans, unbiased casual listeners, and critics will react.

I listened to Midnights last night and so much of it is eh in terms of production, and I fear this is going to be the same, especially if it's being compared to the average 1989 vault tracks

I thought Midnights had a lot of filler, but this new album is just like that, without the smash hit the prev. album clearly had ("Anti-Hero").
