Does anyone even know what's the record "from the debut"? TTPD has a loooooong way to go to any kind of record I would think. Morgan Wallen's latest spent 12 weeks last year. Wallen isn’t even the one to beat, anyway. Dating as far back as 1955 (where I stopped digging), I saw that Billy Ray Cyrus’ debut album Some Gave All holds the record for most consecutive weeks at #1 from the debut, with 17. That’s a record that has been held since 1992. TTPD needs to remain at #1 every week throughout the remainder of the summer and perhaps well into autumn to tie or snatch that record, as it’s only on Week 6 right now, with 11 weeks (or 12, in order to break the record) remaining. If Taylor is successful in that endeavor with TTPD, she’d simultaneously be breaking another record, this one among women. Tapestry by Carole King, released in 1971, holds the record for most consecutive weeks at #1 for an album by a female artist, with 15 weeks. Taylor has another nine chart weeks left before she TTPD is able to tie that, and 10 weeks left to break that record.

She doesn't have a chance in hell at breaking that consecutive #1 week record with Eminem releasing.

Whitney by Whitney Houston holds the very specific record of debuting at #1 and then having the most consecutive weeks at 11 weeks so that's possible to break.

At this point, do we think Taylor is going for the record of the most initial consecutive weeks at # for an album? She really has no control over this. It is as long as people keep buying her album. The only trickery they can do to help extend its shelf life is to run flash sales and having folks buy it cheap or have the streaming services keep it as a featured streaming album.

For the first year or so it seemed like 'Midnights' would eventually outpace 'Lover', but basically since 'Cruel Summer' hit airwaves 'Midnights' has failed to have enough weeks ahead to bridge the gap. Now 'Lover' is ahead every week by a comfortable margin and will most likely remain so. Labels just don't care about certifications any more, sadly. A shame, because if she could re-do her whole catalogue in one go (I believe an artist could personally pay for/request certifications), it would be an absolutely massive uptick. A NYT article recently suggest that 1989 OG could be certified as high as 14x platinum, while it's presently stuck at 9x. While I am much more comfortable speculating laziness, perhaps they are waiting to do in one fell swoop that gives her the title of 'most certified female artist'. Yeah. Rihanna and Drake usually wait a while as well so they can have big record headlines. I'm not sure if she would even want to recertify the OG Big Machine albums but honestly she should. 1989 OG alone is gonna generate so much good press if it goes above Diamond.

Not sure if this should be in this thread or the 1989 (Taylor's Version) thread but I am disappointed that "Sweeter Than Fiction (Taylor's Version)" is still not on streaming. They released it exclusively on Vinyl when the re-release came out and there's been no talk of it appearing on streaming since.

Happened to "Hits Different", "You're Losing Me", "the lakes" and "right where you left me". I'm guessing Target has timed exclusivity and we just need to wait.

As a STAN of the 2013 version of Sweeter Than Fiction and up there with my fave song of hers... "her version" sucks in comparison!

That tweet isn’t real but I’m *sure* there are some collections that actually look like that, which is petrifying.

During the 100th show tonight, she confirmed the tour is ending in December. No 2025 dates.

People are going nuts over her glitching website. There are theories. Not to alarm anyone, but I happen to have a copy of the 2024 Taylor Swift themed calendar (the type that you find in the mall during the holiday season), and Tuesday, July 16 is highlighted as National Snake Day. Lover’s 5th anniversary is naturally highlighted as well—August 23 is a Friday this year.

She sang Cornelia Street x Maroon and I wasn't there for it? She deserves prison (but she won't get time).

I don't give a shit if it's the 964th variant of TTPD or not, I will buy whatever variant she releases that "Cornelia Street x Maroon" mashup on. That was bliss.

That Cornelia Street x Maroon mashup is recklessly perfect. Could easily become my favorite TS song ever in a recorded and extended format. That transition from “I hope I never lose you…” to “and I, lost you.” Devastating.

I NEED that variant, and I will swallow my pride to buy it. That transition between the two was like getting run over by a bus.

Okay the UK variants to block Charli XCX is too far. How does she do all this, but not discount "Delicate" to go top 10?

That Cornelia Street X Maroon performance was spectacular. An example of why she is the best, period.

The general public is still behind her I don’t think she cares if she loses the support of a handful of us on Pulse.
I think TTPD is her best album and I’m here for it breaking as many records as possible. Sorry not sorry miss XCX.

Yeah, I feel like Taylor isn't concerned at all about losing the very minute portion of people who would even know about variants or variant strategies. Hell, she spoke against her own fans with this album. Pretty sure she's gotten pushed further and further to just not give a damn altogether. At this point, if you take issue with variants or their implementation as a means to maximize chart performance, you might as well bow out of Taylor Swift fanhood (honestly don't even know why you'd still be here considering she's been doing this for 5 years). It's not stopping anytime soon and is likely to only get worse (across the board for all artists mind you with Taylor spearheading). It would take more than variants to get me to disavow her music, but I understand everyone's limits are different. :)
