If evermore would have come before folklore then I would thought the same if the roles were reversed: I had one, I didn't need the other. They are too similar in sound for me to need both. I like songs on both but it's a lot of the same thing to me personally.

Evermore is so special and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. It’s solidly in her top 5 to me. I think she seriously leveled up her craft with folklore and everything she’s created since. I don’t think her earlier work touches it with the exception of some singular tracks.
1. Midnights 2. folklore 3. TTPD 4. evermore 5. 1989 6. Lover 7. Reputation *A big gap exists for me here* 8. Red (ATW is too good for this album) 9. Speak now 10. Fearless 11. Debut
That’s where I’m settled right now. But her top 7 tend to change places at times.

Do any of her track placements besides Track 5 have a pattern?

This just exemplifies how catchy "Fortnight" is and how good it could have been with better production. Like THIS should have been the radio mix:

Saying that, when the world was shut down, when new tv shows, movies and music were far between, I truly appreciate her releasing 2 albums during that time. They are very similar in sound but I always see evermore as a continuation of folklore.

Like THIS should have been the radio mix: I’m a big fan of the original production, but I did smile the whole time I listened to this. A version like this would have been the difference in what we got (which again, I love) and another CS or AH sized smash.

I think Taylor should have kept Us for herself. That sounds like a smash to me.

This is pretty similar to how I'd rank her albums too but I'd bump up Red before the giant chasm lol. In addition to ATW, I'm forever obsessed with State of Grace, Holy Ground, and the title track. And 22 is fun in small doses.

Very controversial take on my end, but I feel like Red is her most overrated album. It's very scattered sonically and half the material is average. "Stay, Stay, Stay", "The Last Time", "The Lucky One", "Starlight", "Treacherous" and to a lesser extent "Sad, Beautiful, Tragic" are all middling and skips for me. While it has a few career highs ("All Too Well" & "Red" namely), it's my least revisited album from Taylor aside from debut. Even "I Knew You Were Trouble" feels very dated now. I will say the vault tracks from Red Taylor's Version are the best vault tracks thus far and would have elevated Red as an album had they been swapped for some of the og tracks. For an even more controversial take: I prefer the build in the shortened "All Too Well".

The highs on RED are career highs which helps mask the low points, which were admittedly pretty bad for her standards. It's ranked very highly for me thanks to those highs but honestly after RED TV it's clear to me that it's too bloated to be my fave of hers.
"I Knew You Were Trouble" has aged horribly but even she couldn't have predicted how everyone would tire of dubstep in under two years. And for her it was a big moment and has been referenced as one of the reasons she pivoted to full pop on 1989. People do not give the song credit for what it did for her sometimes because we all grew to kinda sorta dislike it a bit lol.

Oh yeah, it definitely deserves credit for, at the time, being her most sonically adventurous song and helping steer her toward a new creative direction that we're all very thankful she took. It definitely was instrumental to her career, it's just not a song I find much if any replay value in. lol

What would people's ultimate RED tracklist be, to pair down the 30-song TV to something worth of 1989 and after quality?
Sidenote: I would also cut Lover down to a 13-track standard edition and put the rest as an optional deluxe version.

I think something like this would be a stronger 16 track standard edition, keeping the pop singles since you can't deny their impact: 1. State of Grace 2. Red 3. Treacherous 4. IKYWT 5. All Too Well 6. 22 7. Message In A Bottle 8. WANEGBT 9. Better Man 10. The Last Time 11. Holy Ground 12. The Very First Night 13. I Bet You Think About Me 14. Forever Winter 15. Come Back... Be Here 16. Begin Again Deluxe tracks could then be Nothing New, Girl At Home (TV production), The Moment I Knew, Babe, and ATW10. For a tighter Lover tracklist: 1. Cruel Summer 2. Lover 3. I Think He Knows (Nothing can change my mind that this would have been the perfect lead: still the bubblegum 180 she was going for, but much better than ME!) 4. Miss Americana 5. The Archer 6. All of the Girls 7. Cornelia Street 8. DBATC 9. False God 10. YNTCD 11. Paper Rings 12. Afterglow 13. Daylight

I think I made a Red (Your Version) somewhere, anyway, here's mine:
01. State of Grace 02. Red 03. Treacherous 04. I Knew You Were Trouble 05. All Too Well 06. 22 07. Forever Winter 08. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together 09. Stay Stay Stay 10. Nothing New 11. Holy Ground 12. Come Back, Be Here 13. The Lucky One 14. Babe 15. The Very First Night 16. Begin Again
Makes the album less plodding and slow.
Here my Midnights:
01. Lavender Haze 02. Maroon 03. Anti-Hero 04. Snow on the Beach 05. You're On Your Own Kid 06. Would've Could've Should've 07. Paris 08. Hits Different 09. Bejeweled 10. The Great War 11. Karma 12. Bigger Than the Whole Sky 13. You're Losing Me

Sidenote: I would also cut Lover down to a 13-track standard edition and put the rest as an optional deluxe version. Glad you ask! I think this collection of songs would've made Red a much stronger album: 01.) "State Of Grace" 02.) "Red" 03.) "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" 04.) "I Knew You Were Trouble" 05.) "All Too Well" 06.) "22" 07.) "Message In A Bottle" 08.) "Better Man" 09.) "Babe" 10.) "The Moment I Knew" 11.) "Holy Ground" 12.) "Everything Has Changed" 13.) "I Almost Do" 14.) "Nothing New" 15.) "Begin Again" Bonus songs on deluxe: 1.) "Treacherous" 2.) "The Last Time" 3.) "Sad, Beautiful, Tragic" 4.) "Girl At Home" (TV mix) As for Lover: 01.) "Cruel Summer" 02.) "Lover" 03.) "The Man" 04.) "I Think He Knows" 05.) "The Archer" 06.) "Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince" 07.) "Paper Rings" 08.) "Cornelia Street" 09.) "Death By A Thousand Cuts" 10.) "London Boy" 11.) "False God" 12.) "You Need To Calm Down" 13.) "Daylight"

I Think He Knows would have been a good single choice if she had enough momentum then to sustain a long campaign like 1989.

Sidenote: I would also cut Lover down to a 13-track standard edition and put the rest as an optional deluxe version. Oh I’m so glad you asked. I didn’t put any thought into there being a deluxe version for my Red, so I don’t have that, but I did cut 10 songs from the album. It was the most I could do, lol. I moved some songs around and brought one of 2012’s deluxe tracks into the main sequence. As for my Lover, I also couldn’t do just 13, lol. However, I easily chopped four songs off the list, replacing one of them with AOTGYLB, and relegating the other three to the deluxe edition. Red (Pulse Taylor’s Version): 1. State of Grace 2. Red 3. Treacherous 4. I Knew You Were Trouble 5. The Moment I Knew 6. 22 7. Babe 8. I Almost Do 9. I Bet You Think About Me 10. Message in a Bottle 11. The Last Time 12. Better Man 13. Holy Ground 14. Come Back…Be Here 15. Sad Beautiful Tragic 16. Girl at Home 17. Run 18. The Very First Night 19. All Too Well (10 minute version; has become the only version I use lmao) 20. Begin Again Lover (Pulse Taylor’s Version): 1. I Forgot That You Existed 2. Cruel Summer 3. Lover 4. The Man 5. The Archer 6. I Think He Knows 7. Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince 8. Paper Rings 9. Cornelia Street 10. Death By A Thousand Cuts 11. Soon You’ll Get Better 12. False God 13. All of the Girls You’ve Loved Before 14. Afterglow 15. Daylight Deluxe Edition: 16. ME! (Would’ve used as a standalone single for the soundtrack to a children’s movie—and yes, I would’ve kept in the “hey kids, spelling is fun!” for that reason, lol. Deluxe track for the album just so it can have an era home—much like “Today Was A Fairytale” being on the Fearless TV album now) 17. You Need to Calm Down 18. It’s Nice to Have a Friend

EDIT: Forgot to do my Red (Ben's version)The relationship begins 1 "State of Grace" 2 "Red" 3 "Treacherous" 4 "Starlight" The relationship goes south and ends; the speaker goes back and forth with her emotions 5 "All Too Well" 6 "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" 7 "Better Man" 8 "Babe" The speaker has a crisis about aging and a s*icidal beloved 9 "Nothing New" (featuring Phoebe Bridgers) 10 "The Lucky One" 11 "Forever Winter" The speaker has feelings rear their head when ex gets engaged 12 "I Bet You Think About Me" (featuring Chris Stapleton) The next relationship begins 13 "The Very First Night" 14 "Holy Ground" 15 "Everything Has Changed" (featuring Ed Sheeran) 16 "Begin Again" For a tighter Lover tracklist: 1. Cruel Summer 2. Lover 3. I Think He Knows (Nothing can change my mind that this would have been the perfect lead: still the bubblegum 180 she was going for, but much better than ME!) 4. Miss Americana 5. The Archer 6. All of the Girls 7. Cornelia Street 8. DBATC 9. False God 10. YNTCD 11. Paper Rings 12. Afterglow 13. Daylight I would swap YNTCD for I Forgot You Existed and keep it the opener, but otherwise agree wholeheartedly with your choices!

Red is one of those albums for which I remember exactly where it was when I purchased it, because it was at the beginning of my love for Taylor and I was on a work trip in Berwyn, PA. I remember asking a coworker to take me to Target after work (or maybe even during lunch) to pick it up and then making my coworkers listen to the CD in the car we rented for the trip. Speak Now was the first Taylor album I purchased and really listened to, but Red is the one that converted me, so it will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. I know every word by heart. I haven't spent enough time with the bonus and vault tracks and I think, as she grew into her power, her albums got better and better, to the point where some of the later albums surpass it, but Red is still a gem in her catalog,

I was just thinking about it, but now Taylor's with Travis could you imagine if his team goes to the Super Bowl once again but this time she's doing the halftime show?! What an event that would be in the Swift universe. She's really overdue for that performance anyway tbh. What is everyone's dream TS Super Bowl setlist?
My dream Super Bowl Setlist would include:
"Ready For It" "Look What You Made Me Do" "Cruel Summer" "Anti-Hero" "I Knew You Were Trouble" "Shake It Off" "Blank Space" "Bad Blood (Remix)" w Kendrick "Wildest Dreams" "Lover" "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" "Love Story" "You Belong With Me" "All Too Well"
These interluded/mixed in somehow:
"Delicate" "Enchanted" "Cardigan" "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" "Don't Blame Me"

And your set list is damn near perfect. I do think she should throw in something on the piano just for the fans - like Maroon or Champagne Problems or Cornelia Street - but really, it doesn’t get much better than that set.

I wish she would make a brand new country album. It would be interesting to hear what it would sound like since it’s been over ten years since she’s written explicitly country music.

I feel like it's inevitable as it's her ace in the hole. Her "return to roots" country album was always going to happen IMO. I just don't know when.
