It looks like Imagine Dragons saw all of the big Alt bands returning at once and needed to throw their hat into the ring. They posted a new teaser and when you Shazam the song, it comes up with a song called "Eyes Closed".

I'm surprised to see mostly warm reception for this one, 'cause even though I'm very open-minded when it comes to Imagine Dragons, I'm feeling a warm spot on this one. For one thing, it's not overproduced and the pitch shifting job isn't terrible, so maybe it'll be a grower for me, but it sounds like a cut from Evolve nonetheless and it's a feeling I can't shake.

Yeah, it’s definitely growing on me. the production is stripped for their standards so that feels nice too.

America's most mediocre band is also impacting AAA next week, per JBE.

As someone who had "Bones" grow on me in such a twisted way, that I was one of the only people who "got" it, this is back to pointless mediocrity (the pleasant side and not the annoying side, but still mediocre regardless).

This is actually a good first release. Like many people, I was a huge ID fan until, well.. their music drove me away a bit. But I'm really into this one on first listen.

OK, initial impression -

It's classic Imagine Dragons - and, yes, very, very good. The hooks make you second-guess (a good thing, for me) and the rapping was unexpected. It's a #1 at alt., just a matter of how many weeks over. I'm taking the 'over' on 10 weeks.

Is it #1 alt. song of 2024? I'm taking the 'under' on that one - don't know if 100% of the forum are bought in on an 8+ month-er, like they have virtually all their late 2010s radio singles and beyond. Outside chance this bucks the trend and bows out between 25-30 weeks. Don't see that happening, necessarily, either.

Top 40, I'm predicting denting the top 20. Hot AC top 10.

I think AAA smash, as well...sounds completely unlike this format but for whatever reason, they seem to be absorbing a lot of the "indie-pop" (for whatever lack of better term) Alt-leaning artists.

I've been a big supporter of the band and have even seen them in concert (and was touched by Dan Reynolds), but...this is a disjointed mess. I like parts of it, but it doesn't always work. What is that part before the "I could do this with my eyes closed" and the "turn out, turn out the lights" voice is annoying. I dunno, y'all. I have gotten kinda tired of them over the last album or so anyway though, tbh.
