Has there ever been an example of a one hit wonder randomly blowing up a decade later? I know Shaggy went six years between Boombastic and It Wasn't Me/Angel and Golden Earring went nine between Radar Love and Twilight Zone, but it seems like Hozier is becoming a legit star nearly 10 years after his one U.S. hit.

I wasn’t aware of it either, but apparently his last few albums and tours have done big numbers in both US and overseas, and he’s slowly built a hardcore fanbase.

It's not like he was completely gone though.  His 2019 album debut #1 on the Billboard 200.  He also had some smaller rock hits and appearances on other charts.

Shakira kind of - she’s always been massive in LATAM (since 1990!) but from a US popular music perspective she had her era of hits in the early 00s/late 90s, then she had Waka Waka in 2010/2011, then her 2023 revival.

It's weird, I don't think of Hozier as a one hit wonder even though he did only have one big hit on the hot 100. He has such a dedicated fanbase and in the rock/indie world he's such a massive name. I even hear his other songs in the wild a lot, I probably hear Someone New in public more than Take Me To Church. Just weird to remember that oh yeah, he only had one big chart hit before Too Sweet blew up

Rick Springfield hit number 14 in 1972 with "Speak To The Sky", then dropped "Jessie's Girl" in 1981 and had a huge run for the next 7 years

Billy Ocean had one top 40 hit in 1976, 8 years before "Caribbean Queen" kicked off a streak that included three number one hits

Tracy Chapman hit number 3 with "Give Me One Reason" eight years after "Fast Car"

Becky G's "Mamii" in 2022 gave her her first top 40 hit since "Shower" in 2014

If going strictly by top 40 yes, but Billy had notably more chart success than Hozier. With a few other songs getting 10 weeks on the hot 100 one of which peaked in the 40s. He just suffers from everyone ignoring his other country hits but he did have them

The global and US chart is so freaking competitive right now, and with beyonce and taylor releasing their albums soon, it's not going to cool down anytime soon, I wish these releases are more separated so that everyone has their time to shine though

Ariana's We Can't Be Friends is growing healthily on radio. In about a week it should enter radio's top 40 and soon thereafter the top 30. I can see this swiftly becoming a top 5 airplay hit for her, which is great. However, I feel like the obvious smash on the album is The Boy is Mine. Its streaming numbers are already strong and consistent and Pop and Rhythmic radio would eat it up instantly if it got sent for airplay. As much as I want to see WCBF achieving longevity in the top 10, I feel like Republic should push TBIM sooner than later while its hype and streams are still strong. Of course, even if they let WCBF run its promotional course, a music video for TBIM released at a later date would still reignite interest, but I'd say that TBIM stands a stronger chance of hitting #1 if they start promoting it now. Then again, I'm sure Republic has it all planned out so we should wait and see how they'll handle things haha!!

Also, I neglected to congratulate Miley on her 40th week atop the Adult Contemporary chart with her smash Flowers, extending her all-time record for the longest-lasting #1 there! It's crazy how longevous that song proved to be! It emerged as one of her biggest classics and one of the biggest smashes of the decade for sure! It seems like Flowers' AC airplay is actually very stable so it could potentially extend its stay at number one by a couple of weeks. Could she reach 43-46 weeks? That remains to be seen, but in any case, congrats to Miley for such an impressive feat!!

Going strictly by T40 hits on the BB H100, Alabama went 16 years between The Closer You Get (83) & God Must've Spent A Little More Time On You (99). Also Kylie Minogue went 13 years between Locomotion & It's No Secret (89) until Can't Get You Out Of My Head (02). But, AL had plenty of Country hits during this time & Minogue still performed well at other Anglophone markets during this span. So these aren't "perfect" examples.

Jimmy Cliff. The first song charted in 1969 and the second in 1993. He had no other US top 40 hits in between, which means most of his classics like Many Rivers to Cross and You Can Get It If You Really Want were not hits.

Don’t see Like That free falling like Hiss or even Carnival but don’t think it’s the next Flowers. Probably can get 2-3 weeks at #1.

With all the big songs this year, it seems that Lose Control and Beautiful Things join Lovin On Me as the big 3 hits of Q1.
