We're back another MJ album rankdown. Bad was the highly-anticipated follow-up to Thriller. Released in 1987, it topped the album charts in 25 countries, including the US, where it spawned seven hit singles with five hitting #1. It also led to Michael's first solo world tour, which would become the highest-grossing solo tour of the '80s. Bad was nominated for six Grammys, winning two, and his music videos helped him receive the MTV Video Vanguard Award. The album would also be the final collaboration between MJ and Quincy Jones. Here are the eleven songs we'll be ranking: Bad The Way You Make Me Feel Speed Demon Liberian Girl Just Good Friends (w/Stevie Wonder) Another Part Of Me Man In The Mirror I Just Can't Stop Loving You (w/Siedah Garrett) Dirty Diana Smooth Criminal Leave Me Alone Final rankings will use an inverse point system. Submissions are tentatively due April 12.

Definitely in. I've been listening to his discography a lot more than usual lately, so this is coming at the perfect time for me. Hope one day we get to do a Dangerous RD at some point - that's my favorite album of his tbh.

A MJ rankdown? Count me in! He’s been one of my favorite artists since I was younger, this is one of my favorite albums from him. Picking these songs are gonna be tough!

Already sent! My dad introduced me to this album when I was a kid, so I have fond memories of growing up listening to this.

Sent in my rankings!
Phew, my Top 4 was ridiculously hard to rank. All are memorable and iconic songs to me (and I will probably disagree with the order when they get posted lol). Everything else was a bit easier to rank. These are such fantastic songs, and I can't wait to see how they rank.

I sent mine in. This has a few grade A classics, but on the whole this is one of his lesser albums for me.

There were a number of songs that were recorded during the recording sessions for Bad, but for one reason or another were left off. I'll post some of them here, starting with a song that MJ wrote and first started recording during the Thriller sessions. He came back to it while recording Bad, but later abandoned it. MJ would revisit the song during the Dangerous and HIStory sessions and again in 2009, but it wouldn't see the light of day until it was included on a re-release of "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" in 2012. It would also surface on Bad 25.

Here we have another song that MJ wrote. It was recorded during the Bad sessions, but didn't make the cut due to it not being finished. It was later included on Bad 25, and was released to radio stations in Italy and Poland.

This song was originally intended to be the theme for a Pepsi commercial, but was replaced with an edited version of "Bad". It later appeared on Bad 25.

This song was intended for Bad, but was left off for "Another Part Of Me". It later appeared on the 2001 special edition of Bad and on Bad 25.
Streetwalker
This would later morph into the song "Dangerous".

I bet the MJ vault has many more gems like these. I wonder if we will ever hear them?

Here we have one of the later recordings during the Bad sessions, but was ultimately left off of the album. It later surfaced on Bad 25.

I like "Don't Be Messin Round" but it feels underwhelming among most of the songs on Bad.
"I'm So Blue" would fit better on Off the Wall if given a bit more of a disco feel, or possibly Thriller. Even so it doesn't have a big enough hook to stand out on any of the albums.
"Streetwalker" fits the vibe of Bad to me, but I can't really say it's better than anything on the album.
I don't think I've heard "Al Capone" or "Free" before, so I will have to check them out.

This song was recorded during the Bad sessions in 1986, but was left off of the album. It later surfaced on the 2001 special edition of Bad and on Bad 25.
Fly Away
The song was later given to his sister Rebbie, who put it on her album Yours Faithfully. MJ is featured on background vocals.

Some of the most iconic songs in history are on this album. Wow. Imagine following up a masterpiece like Thriller with something harder and grittier but also fucking amazing on its own?? MJ is not called King of Pop for nothing. Anyway, submitting now. I think my top 2 are two of his best songs, but also two of the best songs in existence. I forgot JUST how good this album was.

This was a good album. I only really didn't care about my last place, the rest are all fine songs that could have gone either way in my rankings.

Fun fact, this was actually the first album (well, cassette) I ever bought. I remember keeping the cassette in my pocket at school in like second grade lol. One song was my favorite off the album then, and it still is; I think only about half of the songs are great, though, and think he has 2-3 other projects that are better on the whole.
