50. SOPA - Ab-Soul feat. ScHoolboy Q

Born in Los Angeles, Herbert Stevens IV rose to prominence as a member of the supergroup Black Hippy. His 2012 album Control System houses the single "SOPA" which features ScHoolboy Q. The song is a reference to the Stop Online Piracy Act, a bill that would have given the government control over the internet.

49. The Bridge - MC Shan

Born in Queens, Shawn Moltke first signed with MCA and released the single "Feed The World". He was soon dropped from the label, but quickly landed a deal with Cold Chillin' Records and joined Marley Marl's Juice Crew. In 1986 he released the single "The Bridge", which would ignite what would come to be known as the Bridge Wars with Bronx-based Boogie Down Productions (You may recall we ranked "The Bridge Is Over" in the very first installment of this series). Samples "Impeach The President" by The Honey Drippers and "Scratchin'" by The Magic Disco Machine, and itself has been sampled numerous times.

MC Shan later worked with Snow on his #1 hit "Informer".

48. 6 In The Mornin' - Ice-T

Taking his cue from "P.S.K. What Does It Mean?" by Schoolly D, Ice-T released "6 In The Mornin'" in 1986 and is one of the earliest gangsta rap songs. Three 6 Mafia later recorded their own version titled "3-6 In The Mornin'", and Ice's own 1991 song "Midnight" is considered a prequel.

"Your Love" was released in 2010 as the lead single from her debut studio album Pink Friday. It topped the rap chart and peaked at #4 on the R&B chart and #14 on the Hot 100. Samples Annie Lennox's version of "No More I Love You's".

46. WAP - Cardi B feat. Megan Thee Stallion

"WAP" was released in 2020. The song, which stands for "Wet-Ass Pussy", debuted atop the R&B/Hip Hop and Hot 100 charts, and was the first collboration between female rap artists to hit #1 on the latter chart. It won an American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Song. Sampling "Whores In This House" by Frank Ski, it received widespread critical acclaim, with several publications calling it one of the best songs of the year. It also caused a freakout by conservatives, accusing it of contributing to the decline in human society.

The music video features cameos from the likes of Normani and Kylie Jenner, with some objecting to the latter's appearance in the video and accusing her of cultural appropriation.

49. The Bridge - MC Shan (43): Lol oh wow, it's kinda funny to see a song with no rankings above #30. :o Wow it kinda shows how none of us are passionate about this song. No complaints with the ranking for this song.

48. 6 In The Mornin' - Ice-T (48): Oooh niceee, 3rd song in and already got my second perfect rank as I ranked this at #48. This was another song I didn't care for and am fine with its ranking here.

47. Your Love - Nicki Minaj (15): Ughh noooo, really sad and shocked to see "Your Love" show up this soon. And ugh the first song I am really sad to lose, as this is my #15. Unlike Nicki, I do love this song. It's cute, catchy and enjoyable. I do think she probably could have had stronger songs that could have done better here but still a fan of this.

46. WAP - Cardi B feat. Megan Thee Stallion (20): Well dangg, I also wasn't expecting to see "WAP" show up this soon either. Ugh that's disappointing as I do really like this song. It was quite a huge song/video. This is a hot and fun jam and I enjoy what both Cardi and Megan bring to the song.

45. Streiht Up Menace - MC Eiht

Straight outta Compton, Aaron Tyler started out as a member of the group Compton's Most Wanted. In 1993 he appeared in the movie Menace II Society and contributed the song "Streiht Up Menace" to its soundtrack. It peaked at #30 on the rap chart and #46 on the R&B chart, and was later used in the video game Grand Theft Auto V. Montell Jordan sampled it for his song "Falling".

MC Eiht had a years-long feud with DJ Quik, releasing diss tracks back and forth. The feud ended in 1998, and the two have since collaborated on a number of songs.

"Let's Talk About Sex" was released in 1991 from their album Blacks' Magic. Sampling "I'll Take You There", it peaked at #12 on the rap chart, #51 on the R&B chart, and #13 on the Hot 100. Internationally, it topped the charts in eight countries. The song, which promotes safe sex, received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance By a Duo Or Group.

An alternate version was released titled "Let's Talk About AIDS".

43. Whoomp! (There It Is) - Tag Team

Tag Team was formed in Atlanta by Denver natives DC The Brain Supreme (Cecil Glenn) and Steve Rolln (Steve Gibson). Their song "Whoomp! (There It Is)" first blew up in the gentleman's club Magic City where DC was a DJ. It's growing popularity eventually landed them a deal with Bellmark Records. It topped the R&B chart and peaked at #4 on the rap chart and #2 on the Hot 100 in 1993, and has been played in movies, advertisements, and at sporting events ever since. Samples "I'm Ready" by Kano, which eventually led to Bellmark filing for bankruptcy following a lawsuit claiming that the sample was used without permission. After a years-long battle, Tag Team wound up with 100% of the writers' share and were given the right to get performance royalties from third parties.

"Freek-A-Leek" was released from his album Still Writing In My Diary: 2nd Entry. Produced by Lil Jon, it peaked at #2 on the rap chart, #5 on the R&B chart, and #7 on the Hot 100 in 2004. It was later sampled in Saweetie's "My Type".

The beat for this song had originally been intended for Usher's "Yeah!", but when "Freek-A-Leek" began receiving airplay, Lil Jon had to come up with a different beat for the Usher song.
