It doesn't even have 10 million worldwide views on YouTube (though if most of those are U.S. views it would be a good total), and I don't see it in the top 100 on Apple Music. It will really need to catch on to have any kind of decent Hot 100 debut. Did it debut on Spotify?

It did 3.7 million views 4-5th April and debuted at #1 on the daily US youtube chart - kworb.net/youtube/insights/us_daily.html It'll probably debut on the Hot 100 based on the high youtube views alone.

Does anyone happen to have the post 00s history of songs categorized as rock going #1 on the hot 100? Both Beautiful Things and Too Sweet are, and it’s totally nuts we could have two rock #1s in a row. The only one coming to mind for me post 2010 is good 4 u.

"I Remember Everything"

Personally I don't think any of those except maybe "Bad Habit" should be classified as "rock." Meanwhile there are songs I would classify as "rock" which hit #1 that for whatever reason Billboard didn't list on Hot Rock and Alternative Songs. Off the top of my head there's "Bad Guy" (even though that hit #2 on Rock Airplay) and "Good 4 U."

Ah thanks. I thought billboard themselves made a big fuss at the time over how Good 4 U was the first real rock #1 on the hot 100 in years? Did I imagine that? But yeah, those ones listed are pretty big reaches for the most part. Cardigan as soft rock sure, Bad Habits as alt rock. Can’t see justification for the others. And ironically, Beautiful Thing’s chorus is arguably more straight up rock than any other song we’ve mentioned to not be counted…

There's a total solar eclipse in the US Monday, it almost re-entered the last US eclipse in 2017 when that was a lot harder with less streaming.

I bet it's going to re-enter in the 30s and top Spotify and Apple Music Monday (in the US)

I'd count Shallow and Circles as Rock songs that hit #1. Probably Vampire as well.

There's been a lot of post-album singles doing VERY well recently like Snooze, Thinkin Bout Me, Cruel Summer, I Remember Everything, Fast Car, Die For You, etc, so it is possible to do (there was a few years before when it seemed to almost never happen).
