It's a good song, super fun and catchy and I love the way she sings it, but it's the worst on the album lol. Not saying much because the album is stellar, and it doesn't weigh it down or anything, but it's the most lightweight of this offering.

I can't knock them for pushing this, a fantastic/no-brainer single choice. But this is the risk you take when you drop an album all at once. She should have released this a month or two before the album. She could be on smash number two, instead she's got a handful of tracks that are all fighting each other.

yeah, imo they should push it for a TOP 10 peak on POP an then call it a day to focus 100% on BOAF. Its still one of my faves on the album <3

Fighting each other? Really? The reality is that this is underperforming on radio compared to Bad Guy"s radio performance.

Yes, fighting each other. Because you've got this, the song they're pushing as the lead single. Then you have 'Chihiro', which they seem to have anticipated as the secondary hit song that audiences would latch onto (hence the video) and while that assumption has been correct, IDK that they were anticipating 'Birds Of A Feather' to give a streaming chokehold to the other two and brute-force its way onto radio due to demand. So you've got your main single, your second single and an unexpected tertiary hit. How do you navigate three simultaneous hits? They can't all be all-encompassing smashes.

Was Chihiro ever considered as a single? I can’t imagine anyone listening to that and thinking, this is a smash! in a traditional sense. One of my favourites, perfectly suitable for the right moment in a movie or viral clip, but radio hit it is not.

Somehow I suspect that Lunch would be performing similarly whether those other songs were competing or not.

I love the song but yeah more club friendly than radio. Birds of a Feather is a song that could do well on radio for months to come

Lunch is almost like yes and? or fortnight. Does well initially as the lead single but stalls out after a month or so. But not because it was hurt by a future single competing for spins

I don't think her team had faith in making a big single. They know she sells physicals/vinyls really well, so they wanted to get the album out. It is weird how they even made a song for a TV show idk if that's normal but that seemed odd to me

i know some of y'all don't believe me but i genuinely think at least part of this is chr doing their best to avoid playing a song so explicitly sapphic. keep in mind this was the same format where a number of their stations censored "queer" in industry baby (even in liberal cities like my own) despite it being basically fully reclaimed at this point and it being used as a neutral descriptor by a gay man

not saying it's the only reason obviously but having a separate track blowing up so hard certainly gives chr a convient excuse to drop this as opposed to playing both like they have with a number of other artists ,,,
