Yeah the only thing we need are new artists that actually stick around. We've had so few new big names in the past few years, charts have been dominated by carry overs from the 2010s We've had tons of new artists blowing up in 2024 but very few are getting traction outside of one song, seems like Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, Djo are going to be one hit wonders for now. I guess we'll see with Shaboozey and Tommy Richman. The one with the most longterm potential right now seems Sabrina Carpenter

The jury is out if they can’t get another hit.

idk if this will have some impact in the US, but you never know. In the last 5 years, two Eurovision songs appeared on the Hot 100 (Arcade #30 and Snap #67) and Maneskin (2021 winner) reached #13 with Beggin' (their winning song didn't chart). Not that I'd be against it, but I would hardly bet on it. Maneskin with Beggin' and Duncan Laurence with Arcade are probably the only examples of barely moderate successes in the U.S., so Eurovision has just had very little relevancy here. The video "not being available in this country" says it all! Snap was a moderate hit too, top 20 on pop, and it didn't even win Eurovision. TikTok changed everything, from 1996 to 2021 zero ESC songs charted on the Hot 100, and then in 2021-22 two ESC songs made it, with Maneskin getting solid success (top 20 on Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200, VMA, Grammy nom...). But yeah, without the help of TikTok, it's basically impossible.

I can't even remember 2 months from the 2020-2023 summer season that were as exciting for mainstream music as these last 3 weeks have been. I mean, yeah, this is an exciting time to be a chart-watcher. The numbers, competitiveness and turnover is insane. I just wish the music itself was anything to get excited about.

This is gonna be historic week in streaming era. 3 songs with 500+ pts, #4 is higher than ~90% of this decade weekly #1s.

Whoever stated that it is about to be 2017 again is right with the way that guys are dominating; however, it is way more concerning now. In 2017, the major female artists were not putting out projects, but the majority of the heavy hitters (Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Ariana Grande) have put out projects and have been entirely overshadowed. They had huge to solid openings, but they have been faltering ever since because their projects are not percolating to people outside of their dedicated fanbases. Billie Eilish is seeming to be another Melodrama, and it still is a mystery as to whether SZA is going to put out a new project. An all guys top ten on the hot 100, similar to 2017, is surely going to happen sometime this year.

weekly #1 albums on global Spotify: #1 taylor #2 ariana
I think we have different definitions of "faltering."

It's not disingenuous to suggest that while Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Ariana Grande each scored massive album debuts, their respective singles off those albums haven't performed nearly as well, especially for Ariana Grande & Beyoncé.
Fortnight is the lead single off Taylor Swift's biggest album yet and there's every indication that songs like Cruel Summer, Anti-Hero and Shake It Off will be much bigger hits.
Right now, the Hot 100 is as competitive as it's ever been and that's very notable considering how weak the charts have been for the past 2-3 years. That's what's being discussed here.

I think what makes this year so interesting is that all genres seem to be huge atm (pop, country, hip hop, alternative, and folk). It’s rare to see such diverse representation, especially with most of the hits being from newcomers.

This is crazy because I feel like there's at least one song in this top 10 that everyone can enjoy. We're getting different genres and different artists. I obviously know everyone's going to feel differently, but I think this top 10 is one of the best we've had in a bit.

I had some help - absolutely a summer smash, should easily be one of the biggest of the year
Not like us - the best of the beef tracks from Kendrick. The ending/outro is a bit awkward though and could do with some trimming.
Million Dollar Baby - IDk, I just can't get into this. I don't see the hype (yet?)
A Bar Song - SO GOOD. Another epic summer smash hit. I would LOVE for a J Kwon Tipsy remix.
Fortnight - still loving this, and still Praying for my Post malone extended mix. I would love to see it released next week and then it propells it back to #1 after Post snags it this week with IHSH.

We have a 350 point country song by a never before solo charting artist and a 520 point rap song that’s the artist’s first entry the same week… and they’re both blocked. Amazing

I'm newer to this point watching stuff - do you guys think this prediction was banking on "I Had Some Help" holding better or do you think with the recent drop we saw on Spotify that it becomes more likely it will only make #2 or #3?

That was based off 1st and 2nd day numbers so I'm guessing some drop off was expected. But early numbers are subject to change sometimes dramatically

Actually the one song I could see making it big stateside is Doomsday Blue, given how it is in english, fits the trends currently present in american music and has (I hate to call ot that) tiktok potential I saw Hurricane ranked #32 and The Code #83 on itunes so this might be the closer this year

Would 606 be more than fortnight? Yes. TOTC had it with 601 points on its debut week.

TOTC announced it's holding back public posts due to an alleged shadow ban. Not surprised given the flood of toxic comments on its feed.
IHSH slipped far more on Sunday than I would've expected.

I Had Some Help has monster Amazon/Pandora streams + iTunes sales.
Even if it continues to bomb on Spotify and do sub-30M, it still debuts at #1 lol.
Its first day was just INSANE.
