Honestly, I'm not sure that Billie would get #1 even without the Taylor voice memos. The album doesn't have a ton of hype and it's only 10 tracks. Her last album opened with 238,000 and so far the album is doing much better on streaming than her previous. I wouldn't be surprised if she does close to or over 300k.

"Doesn't have a ton of hype" - proceeds to debut with essentially the same numbers as Cowboy Carter with half the tracks. Billie's streaming power only dwindled a bit because the Happier Than Ever single choices were bizarre and terribly planned. Between the title track and the Barbie song she made a nice little recovery and I think no pre-release single was smart for her.

ttpd also had complaints limited hype before release.
no prerelease singles causes the online conversation pre-release to be lacking but maximal hype on actual release day.

Yeah, the worldwide streaming numbers are very good, it looks like this era's going to be bigger than HTE. Impressive for a 10 track album with only 3-5 minute lengths.

They really mishandled that previous album; she's always been a big deal on streaming with little promo which is why it might feel like there's "no hype". Also, no pre-release drops. In her case, considering Happier than Ever had like 5 or so singles pre-release and most of them didn't connect, this was a wise choice.

I do hope Billie gets the #1. Taylor's album has already smashed and then some, so for TTPD not to be #1 for 1 week shouldn't matter to Taylor.

Didn’t she also acknowledge that her albums also had multiple variants and that it’s often a label thing? People chose to make it shady against Taylor. Maybe it was, but maybe it’s just how she actually felt. It’s such a strange point to suddenly obsessively associate with her. Swifties(and taylor herself) generally like to shade or hate on any other women that are successful, it feels like. Look how quickly they switched on Olivia Rodrigo once she started doing crazy numbers. I think the hype is growing with this Billie record. Its very tight and only 10 pretty diverse tracks as opposed to other albums. Should be interesting when more reviews come in but its killing it on the critics side. Not true many Swifties love Olivia so much. I love Olivia because she's super talented. She's a bit young for me though.

People made the Billie comment about Taylor because she's the only one that can really move AMAZEBALL numbers of product, so it's sort of partially true that Taylor's chart gaming is ultimately helping pollution way more than any other act right now.
But, mild counterpoint, where are the pitchforks for Adele, BTS, Shakira, Travis Scott or Nicki Minaj? Adele's huge initial batch of 30 vinyls might never be completely sold, for example, so that's a lot of wasted material. Shakira did four different cover variants and her album sold poorly everywhere. Taylor actually sells so fans might at least hold on to their copies for many years.
Vinyl is very cool as collector's item. I can't fault people for liking it again. Sadly some acts have found a way to inflate numbers with it. At the very least vinyl should be a preorder exclusive so they print just enough to fulfill demand like they used to do. But yeah, that will never happen after evermore and Fearless TV dropped to career worst numbers just because there was no vinyl week 1.
