SOME EXPERIMENTATION WITH THE FORMAT WILL ONCE AGAIN BE OCCURRING FOR THIS MADNESS, SO IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED YOU READ THIS O.P. EVEN IF IT MOSTLY LOOKS FAMILIAR TO YOU.
Here I am, back hosting a season of Games forum Madness. Later than usual for this summer, but the task just kind of slipped through everyone else's fingers, and I couldn't pick it up until my real life business was settled.
In STM, each person sends a list of songs they've recently been enjoying, and players will be chosen in a random order to have their top 4 songs picked for the game. This means everyone, no matter when they submitted, has equal opportunity to receive their preferred selections. Once the songs have all been revealed, each seed (group of songs) will be put up for ranking by anyone who wants to participate. You can still send a ballot if you didn't submit any songs - the more the merrier! Once each seed has finished, the top 16 songs from each rankdown will be used in a final 64-song tournament (yes, the final is a tournament, not a rankdown this time) to determine the winner of Summertime Madness 2024!
Instructions: (if you're not totally familiar with the format, please read through all of them before sending)
1) Pick at least 4 songs (you can choose as many as you want, but people tend to provide 8). These must be songs you've been enjoying between April and now (that have not been previously submitted), but they don't have to have been released in that time period. However, it's generally preferred that the songs are from the artist's most recent era if they weren't released in the last year or so, and most songs released prior to 2023 won't be counted. If you have any questions about specific songs, please PM me and I'll tell you whether they're eligible. A complete list of previously submitted songs will be included in a link at the bottom of the post below this, so please check them before sending anything. When submitting, please mention the lead artist(s), any featured artists and the song title (for example, Cash Cobain f/ J. Cole - Grippy).
1A) NO ARTIST CAN APPEAR MORE THAN ONCE IN YOUR PICKS AS A LEAD/CO-LEAD CREDIT. Note that this restriction does not extend to features, i.e. an artist can appear as a lead and a feature in the same list.
2) When you have narrowed down your songs, please send them to me (@ gatesofseattles/singingrulebritannia ) in a PM, not in this thread.Ensure you do this by 7:00PM ET on the 8th of July 2024. If you absolutely can't enter your songs by then, I'll need to know when you can before the deadline.
3) When you send your songs to me, place your songs in order from favorite to least favorite, as each person will only have four songs in the game, with the songs outside your top 4 being alternates if someone else has the same song as you. If more than those initial songs are needed, I'll PM you, and you'll need to reply ASAP to ensure you have four songs when the game starts.
4) DO NOT tell people what your songs are until you see in the thread that I have unveiled the identity of your picks.
5) During the ranking portion (after the songs have been revealed), you rank each song from #1 to #[however many people send songs], with #1 being your favorite. You do not have to send songs to join in the rankdowns.
6) During the final voting portion, vote for the song you most prefer of the two songs listed. One vote for each matchup per person. Vote for each matchup, even if you can't decide between them. Failure to vote for each matchup will result in a forfeited vote (none will count). You do not have to submit songs to be able to vote. You are also encouraged to listen to every song, even those you are unfamiliar with. Don't just vote against a song because you never heard of it.
7) In the rounds of 64 and 32, ties will mostly be broken by higher average ranking in the rankdowns. However, if the person who sends a song did not vote in case of a tie, the song will be automatically eliminated regardless of the average ranking. For subsequent rounds, ties will be broken first by percentage of possible cumulative votes, including previous rounds, and then by average ranking.
