You assume incorrectly, remixes and alternate versions of songs count towards their parent albums regardless: it was controversial early on when 1989 got a big boost when Bad Blood’s remix dropped, and similar events keep happening every so often.

You assume incorrectly, remixes and alternate versions of songs count towards their parent albums regardless: it was controversial early on when 1989 got a big boost when Bad Blood’s remix dropped, and similar events keep happening every so often.

Only downside is its Spotify position will suffer just for a few extra seconds of difference at the end of the song.

True, except that week over week it’s down -217,000 on Spotify, which makes it the 7th biggest dropper on the rolling 7-day chart.

Based on the previous trajectory and with radio all-in, I believe the expectation was that this would only get bigger. Maybe it’s a temporary lull.

Regardless, it’s awesome that she’s been discovered by the masses.

2020 is interesting because it has a few of the biggest hits of all time. But it was also the year that artists could BUY #1s. Stuck With U, The Scotts, both Nicki Minaj songs, etc.
