Well tbf he was arguably the most reliable male hit-maker on the format in the last half of last decade before he basically vanished until now. It’s crazy how he’s literally in “prime” male pop star age territory now, yet feels like a relic despite seeming poised to be what Harry Styles ended up becoming this decade.

Edit: Yeah, he was neck and neck with Bieber for most #1s and top tens on CHR from a male solo artist of the 2015-2019 stretch.

Tbh I've had the thought that radio may do for this what they did for Ed Sheeran's 'Eyes Closed'. Streaming non-existant, but radio carries it to a top 40 Hot 100 peak and the longevity to make a year-end chart. That is, if radio decides they're actually going in on it. Madison Beer notwithstanding (as of present), radio seems to give more grace to male artists' streaming flops than female artists.

He pisses me off because he could be a huge popstar again but he comepletely lost any interest in it and refuses to do anything. He just dropped this folk song and hasn't made a public appearance since. The only piece's of promo that's been released so far is a zane lowe interview over zoom call and a spotify promotional video that looked like he was being held at gunpoint to do. There's always the VMAs but he'll probably seem like he's being held at gunpoint there to. But if he wants to be a folk singer instead of a popstar who am I to stop him.

I mean yeah, if he doesn’t want it then he doesn’t want it. One could argue Bieber has often given off the same vibe as well though, yet still seems to churn out hit ready songs, so it works out for him.

well Justin's career has always been a bit more micromanaged than Shawn's so when he does release it's always radio friendly and hit ready. People pointed out that on Shawn's last album the song with the catchiest and most radio friendly hook (and to an extent only catchy and radio friendly song because everything else was either dreary or didn't have a hook at all) was the one with Justin. He would've never been allowed to make something like wonder the album which while I like it and it isn't exactly experimental I will admit that other than the Justin collab there isn't a obvious radio Hit on that album except for maybe the title track.

I don’t think there is anything that he can’t turn around. Why Why Why is not it though, but he could easily hop on a song and be a hook ho and get a hit with the right artist. I think where he and his team went wrong here is he should have hopped on a song with a strong artist and then released this to help it along its way.

I literally get the opposite impression from him though? It seems like he spends most of his time in Hollywood purposely trying to capture paparazzi attention?

Not saying there's anything wrong with that, but my impression is he cares more about his celebrity than his music.
