I disagree when it comes to her legacy as a pop star among younger gens (like compare Taylor and Gen Z to her for example), but that’s my opinion. That's silly logic IMO. Elvis isn't popular amongst Gen Z and last I checked his legendary status is still very much cemented. Gaga came out in 08 and is still churning out hits today, 16 years later and her largest peaks (Fame Monster/Born This Way/A Star Is Born) were certainly already big enough to solidify her name in the halls of legacy, regardless of her popularity with the generations to follow (same as any other artist in those aforementioned halls). Yeah, an artist doesn’t need to appeal to all generations in order to have a legacy. U2 hasn’t have much relevance to anyone younger than an older millennial and the Rolling Stones probably only for gen X and older and both have legacy and sell-out tours and documentaries and books covering them every other year.

Yeah, she doesn’t need to appeal to lots of gens to have a legacy, but all of the all-timers do if we’re being honest. That’s what I want for her. I’m not sure I understand the Elvis comp at all? Of course he’s not hugely gen z relevant, the man was popular 70 years ago. He did crossover with the gens after him though and keep a lot of relevancy, at least through Gen x.

Gaga is one of those artists that have very broad appeal as a person, whether that translates to music consumption, is a different story. And while it's not really a competition (but it is on Pulse), even Taylor has had her issues of not getting "easy" #1 hits - Lover didn't produce any until Cruel Summer came after her popularity had risen remarkably to new heights where it has stayed for the recent 3-4 years (but is on its way down now based on catalogue streams on Spotify). Taylor also operates with a massive US fanbase that buys her music, no one can compete with that.
If we don't use Taylor as a benchmark, Gaga is absolutely still top tier of recording artists with hit potential. Considering that her pop albums with contemporary pop hit attempts are pretty rare (six albums in 12 years), she has had a big chunk of hits, and songs that are remembered despite not being big chart hits (ARUTW, Bloody Mary) and I am 99% sure we haven't seen the last of her in top 5. And if DWAS ends up being her FINAL top 5, it doesn't really take away anything from her earlier accomplishments and she is absolutely able to chart on Hot 100 for years to come.

i think with your criteria Gaga has only had 3 big eras then. The Fame, The Fame Monster, and Born This Way. All the other eras have only 1-2 hits or no hits and that's not "big era". But BTW was 13 years ago. I don't think Gaga is ever going to put out an album with 4 Top 10 radio hits at this age. She's too experimental and out of the age bracket.

Honestly this “everything they touch turns to gold” chart mentality is so juvenile, as is writing people off when they haven’t had a “hit”z The vast majority of people have no idea where a song is charting and nor does it inform their perception of an artist. Obviously we’re in a charts forum so that’s what we’re discussing but some of you need some perspective. I’m not saying it’s not an indicator of interest in this song or album, but Gaga has too many lanes, options and metrics for so much emphasis to be put on how one single is charting.

The streaming for this isn't even a Weeknd-level disaster so like, can we please not? If he can make top 10 with no streaming like he looks to, then Gaga with actual evidence of streaming (and a currently active smash which is more than he's got!) should be good for this going top 10 on pop radio too.

Just to be clear here, I'm taking specifically about 'Dancing In The Flames' as it pertains to top 10 on pop radio (since it looks like he may get there with next to no streaming). I am aware he and Playboi Carti took 'Timeless' into the top 10 on the Hot 100, but that song isn't currently smashing like 'Die With A Smile' is (at least, not yet anyway).
But even if we wanna go there about careers 'in the gutter', The Weeknd's career is objectively not in the gutter. So if Gaga has songs out right now that are performing comparatively better than his currently active chart titles, then if his career isn't in the gutter then clearly neither is hers so whoever's saying that needs to stfu.

Its interesting to me how radio kind of...cares about streaming sometimes and other times not. So, everyone claims that Gaga's streaming will stop her from having any kind of hit. But, we have had a handful of major songs recently that are streaming much worse, being wildly outside the scope of even the top 200, that have soared to the top 10. I know streaming is not a 1:1 with radio, but its just interesting to "guess" whether radio and/or posters will care about streaming or not for different songs lol.

The song is pretty good, but I am not surprised by its performance and 30+ point drop on the Hot 100 this week. It sounds sort of left-field and not fitting in with today's current pop music. "Disease" gives me Judas vibes. That song was also sort of left-field back in the day and I loved it.
Meanwhile, "Die With a Smile" is quite nice and seems to fit in very well. Maybe its just that Gaga has two songs out right now and the pubic chose the one that was easier on the ear. Let's face it, Gaga has not been a guaranteed hit on the pop charts for a while. Aside from a handful of hits, her chart fortunes started to dip downward after the "Born this Way" album. "Shallow" had the benefit of the Oscars and all that exposure. She has had 6 top 10 hits (out of 24 singles) in 11 years since the Born this Way era.
I also think with current popscape which skews so young, a 38 year old woman stands a lesser chance. Not to mention the Joker film came and went and flopped. She has certainly stayed famous and has definitely been in the public eye. I think if she does another movie musical event in the vein of Star is Born, it would work for her.
I remember when i was a teenager (in the 80s), you would have artists of all age all over the chart. Madonna, Whitney, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Debbie Gibson, etc. Performers that were teens up to women in their late 40s were scoring hits. Today it feels like the second you hit the mid-30's as a woman (at most), you are destined to lose interest of radio and pop fans. Which I think is crappy.

Judas charted for only 8 weeks on Hot 100 back in the day btw, and Perfect Illusion got 6 weeks. My guess is that this will be somewhere there too, but it depends on how quickly radio will drop this.

There are people who think Carly Rae Jepsen has a whole slew of hits. I think that’s a weakness of the Hot 100 and people who rely only on that. Songs can be huge within certain demographics and unknowns outside of them. If we relied only on the Hot 100, Kylie Minogue has been a flop for decades but I dare anyone to actually say that.

It was released on October 30, and debuted at #22 in the UK on Friday. It's doing remarkably better in Brazi though, thanks to Anitta. Some new promo coming today.

Look as long as this hits Top 10 on Pop radio, which is what it looks like it's going to do, this is a success for Gaga at her age. I'm just happy she's back to creating the music she and her fans love no matter what.
