This is literally the lovechild of "We Can't Be Friends" and Q Lazzarus's "Goodbye Horses".

Teddy probably just has really strong sales, and this song has 2 versions still charting on iTunes which could be another reason why

Reminds me of an 80’s song, and yeah, I realize we’re talking about The Weeknd here, who’s -again- putting out another 80’s inspired song, but “Dancing In The Flames” literally reminds me of a specific 80’s song… which I can’t put my finger on right now. Ugh.
Anyway, I like this! I like it a lot. Nothing out of the ordinary for him, but good nonetheless.

This is literally the lovechild of "We Can't Be Friends" yes, it's fun playing them back to back, such a good and peaceful vibe. Can't wait for the mashups Dylan :)

Feels very autopilot from him. I'm really here for that song with Anitta though!

I dunno anything about film or video production, but I also wanted to note that I didn't like the camera used to shoot the music video for this. Or perhaps it's the lense? Idk. It made it look cheap and amateur at points. Like if it were a super HQ video recorded from a phone (though I've seen better looking videos shot with a literal Iphone). lol

It did make me think of The Promise by When In Rome even though it’s not a perfect match.

IDK. I like it, but usually Max Martin and Oscar Holter NAILS the production and I don't think they quite get it right. The beat doesn't really sit right with me. Changed my mind. I actually like it a lot. Not sure about how big it will be though. Less Than Zero sounded more like a smash than this.

I like it and I do like this sound from The Weeknd, but it feels redundant. You could plop this on his last two albums and not even notice the difference. I'm curious how radio is gonna react. His last two 80's-esque uptempos both underperformed at radio and got terrible callouts. Which is why "OOT" was always the best single choice (Jesus, let the LTZ fantasy go already), even it's streaming told that story. And then "Die For You" came and smashed, kinda signalling people were over that 80's sound from him. But that was after the massive oversaturation of "BL" and "NMT." Maybe enough time has gone by for this sound to hit again? What is NMT? Nistress Misabella Trooks

Still not #1 on iTunes. Is he the new Katy? No considering iTunes sales do not matter whatsoever in the year 2024. Also, Weeknd debuted at #10 on Spotify while Katy didn't even make the top 200.

I love the vocal production. Clearer in the verses (obviously, less BEATS). Edit: and the bass. and the drums. Just really like the song clearly hahahaha Edit: god I love Max Martin so much.

Don't take the bait lol. If he was on Katy's level we'd be seeing a lot of: It's got no playlisting It's the label's fault It will grow over time It doesn't have an adds date Abel is unbothered and glowing on vacation (?) He's on his hate train era I think this was just a lazy song and people didn't take the bait. I am a little worried because between that and Dawn FM are we gonna have to rely on old songs going viral and getting remixed from now on? He feels like he's creatively stuck. As for other acts... they'd sacrifice their managers for these numbers.

It just sounds like he's stuck in the same mode. And in some ways, he's a victim of BL's success. He's almost feeling legacy act like these days... especially with the Die For You remix. And The Highlights cropping up everywhere all the time because of the streaming rules. Does that make sense?

I don't think anyone but Abel stans even knows or cares about the trilogy thing lol. He just needs catchy memorable stuff and the most memorable thing imo here is how much it sounds like We Can't Be Friends' inferior sibling.

3.42 rating on rate your music as of right now from 400+ people, I’d say that’s pretty good.

I think his albums work better than the actual singles a lot of the time. Save for the AH hits, the albums hit a lot more. Sort of like Taylor how her recent singles (specifically the TTPD singles) are sort of meh but the albums have a lot of good tracks to choose from. Dawn FM and After Hours are nearly flawless albums imo (besides a few duds like Best Friends and Starry Eyes).

I’ve realized that’s the main reason it’s disappointing to me. It’s just too much of a redux of WCBF, except we already have that and it’s better in every way imo.
