It’s amazing how the balance of power has been distributed and how long songs that hit #1 has taken to decline down the chart. Including this week’s number 1 there are 12 songs on the AT40 countdown that have been number 1.

This is the fourth week in a row that Sabrina Carpenter has 4 songs on the countdown. That hasn’t been done in a while I think. 4 songs on the countdown for this long stretch that comes to mind is Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne. Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin, and I think the Chainsmokers.

Yeah, was gonna say, it we’re talking 80s 90s era AT40, it definitely wasn’t a thing that happened because it was a big deal when an artist had 3 songs chart at once, and even that was uncommon. When hip-hop dominated the mid-2000s, that’s when it started to happen occasionally, thanks to features. It wasn’t until the late 2010s when big hits started holding on for longer than ever that it became slightly more common. I feel like Sabrina’s case is a bit more exceptional because hers are all currently active, with two songs that peaked already still top 10 and two below that are on the rise. A bit of a perfect storm in that sense.

This week's AT40 (weekend of Oct. 19/20) played a 4th request song (hr. 4 optional segment) - Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles - something that has been coincidentally related to a recent tragic news about Liam Payne (his One Direction bandmate) who was found dead in Argentina.

It has actually happened before. For the February 12, 2005 countdown, it was bookened by songs with the words "you" in it. JoJo's "Baby It's You" at #40 and Mario's "Let Me Love You" at #1.
