Ok, for those of you who were curious on why "APT." was able to use such a commonly used melody in the pre-chorus, and not violate any copyrights, here is the answer.

I reached out to a couple friends of mine who are songwriters.  They explained that in order for a part of a song to be copyrightable, it has to have some "UNIQUE" quality.

In other words, someone has to create something so unique, that an ordinary listener can easily identify that portion of the song came from a specific source.

Example, when Vanilla Ice used the riff from Queen's "Under Pressure" in his song "Ice Ice Baby," it was very clear where it came from, even though he claimed that one note was different.

In this case, this melody in "APT." is so commonly used, it is no longer considered unique.  In fact, no one really knows who created it, so who is going to step forward and file a lawsuit?

This is the hottest song in the world but most Usa stations only play this between 11pm and 6am with a few exceptions. The state of Pop radio sucks right now. They play like the same 10 songs over and over but hardly play new songs and only play them when people are sleeping.

Hmmm... very interesting.  This type of day-parting was also very prevalent during the Teen Pop boom in the late 1990s and early 2000s.  CHR/Pop radio stations would play the Teen Pop acts in heavy rotation overnight, which didn't really make much sense to me.  They claimed that during the day, they had to skew to a different type of audience, as they wanted their stations to be played in offices during work hours.  Therefore, they wanted to play more adult-leaning songs, as they wanted to reach the 18-49 demo more, not just 18-34 demo.  That means they were more like a Hot AC station during the day.

Again, historically, the target demos were:

CHR/Pop - age 18-34
Hot AC - age 18-49
AC - age 25-54

However, I suspect in 2024, even if the age demos are the same, the people that are listening to terrestrial radio are very different than what they were 20+ years ago.
