I bet an edited version of this will be sent out to Pop, too.

Maybe, but Wake Me When September Ends is definitely a lock for pop.
If Boulevard Of Broken Dreams falls off quickly enough though, they may use Holiday to keep Green Day's name on pop till they're ready to push WMSE.

I bet an edited version of this will be sent out to Pop, too. That could happen, though I expect it'll likely be like what "Going Under" was for Evanescence. First, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" will be a staple, therefore recurrentitis will keep this pushed down a bit. Secondly, I believe everyone is expecting "Wake Me Up When September Ends" will be the other big crossover smash. They best save that single's energy. I believe "Holiday" will top the chart here, but don't expect it to crossover to a huge degree. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

The video is SOOOOOOOOOOOO good. One of my favorite videos in quite some time. It will be nominated at the VMA awards for sure. Hopefully the song will be a pop crossover hit.. if so the video could win big at the VMA's, or at least be nominated in some of the big categories.

holiday is being played, unedited, on our pop stations here in nz. on the weeknightly countdowns itz already top5, i cant even remeba when it was released, i think it was that recently. this will be very big. If this is going to crossover to CHR/Pop, it MUST NOT be edited. Some of the most important, pivotal lyrics in the song resonate in the bridge, especially this: "Zieg Heil to the president gasman Bombs away is your punishment" Either release it in its original form or don't release it at all. And that's precisely why I just don't see this hitting across other formats, with the exception of Triple A. It's too politically intense, and editing it would in fact make the song far less intriguing. Scratching the Top 50, I can see that happening like "Going Under" did for Evanescence or so. But it won't even get one-tenth of total airplay in a week "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is getting now. "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is the obvious next mega-hit designed for mainstream radio, and I think Green Day know that too. They best just not force the single to be shipped to other formats and let it crossover unofficially. And I believe MTV is really going to play out this video for "Holiday" quite a lot, so it can certainly create that cult mainstream buzz. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I saw it premiere all day two weeks ago, but haven't seen it since. I assume they're just letting "BoBD" die off naturally before they bring it into heavy rotation.
And assuming Green Day do get nominated for several VMA's this summer, it'll be for "American Idiot" or "BoBD." Third singles rarely get much attention from the VMA committee.

they should get this and WMUWSE out and then do JEsus of Suburbia. undoubtdudly. (SP?) think about it. alot of great songs are 6+ minutes. Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway to Heaven, November Rain. theyre all long and sweet. so is JOS. and even if it doesnt do very well, itll give older greenday fans a good rock song and itll be mostly for them. (the older fans) BOBD was so big it made people who listen to Ciara or Destiny's Child sing it. JOS i think would be for the people who like Longview or Welcome to Paradise. i think AI almost did, but it didnt. JOS would give alot of us rockers a break from the days of Eminem and Good Charlotte ruling the world.

Week ending 2/25/2005: At Alternative it was tied with "E-Pro" as the biggest jumper of the week. "Holiday" moves 31-23.

Its looking like Green Day will definitely be #1 in April. I'm going to give it a month.
I think alternative is going to have QOTSA #1 for a week, Beck will get 2 or 3 weeks at #1 and then Green Day will hold it for a month after that. After Green Day will likely be either Garbage, The Mars Volta, or of course something that isn't on the chart yet.

Just recently as Green Day have become the top dog again, so many people compare them to pop bands such as Busted, Mc Fly or any other merchandised crap. Can i just say to all the people who assume Green Day to be this new punk/pop band, that they are far from that!
Seeing them live last month, was just incredible, you can hardly call the sweaty moshers pop followers!

I'm starting to think Green Day will be replaced by...Green Day...for the next #1.
Both Queens of the Stone Age and Beck just don't seem strong enough right now to take the top spot, unless "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" loses spins faster.
"Holiday" is less than 600 spins behind "Little Sister" and its gains are superior to Queens' by +317.
If these same rates continue, "Holiday" will take #1 before QOTSA ever have a chance to.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I'm starting to think Green Day will be replaced by...Green Day...for the next #1. You noticed this four days before I did, and now it's looking even more like if Qotsa or Beck want that #1, now's the time to pick it up, 'cause after this week, they may not get another chance. I don't think "Holiday" is going to have another 300+ increase in plays, but still, it's pretty clear that this is heading to #1 in the near future.

There's no doubt in my mind this will be Green Day's third #1 from this album (3 for 3). How long "Holiday" will stay on top is the real question. Some said they think "Holiday" will be even bigger than "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". That's NOT going to happen, but it can still have a good run. It'll be interesting to see how Audioslave's huge debut turns out, and Coldplay's. One of these two singles just might defuse the single's run on top of the chart. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

The song reached to #10 at the playlist What's New by the Los Angeles radio station KROQ 106.7FM.
Also reached to #4 at the other playlist Most Played.

It looks like the video stations have decided it's OK to officially add "Holiday" now, since I've seen the video on VH1 and MTV2.
I wonder, since Fuse never got to play the actual video for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", did they get a headstart on playing the "Holiday" video?

This song is still going to #1. Audioslave and NIN went up so fast that there's nowhere to go but down. They're both getting so much front-ended airplay right now that they're going to start falling soon, once stations take them out of "premiere" rotation and put them into regular rotation. Green Day will have longevity because it's rising at a normal pace so it can outlast the competition.

GREEN DAY Holiday Producer(s): Rob Cavallo, Green Day Writer(s): Green Day Publisher(s): WB Music/Green Daze Music admin. by WB Music (ASCAP) Genre: ROCK Label/Catalog Number: Reprise 101500 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: April 09, 2005
Green Day sadly missed out on the album of the year Grammy Award, but few would deny that the band scored a banner year with its bold, triple-platinum "American Idiot," which is No. 4 on The Billboard 200 this issue. Following the enduring group's biggest hit ever —"Boulevard of Broken Dreams," still holding on to No. 5 on The Billboard Hot 100—Reprise drops another crystal-clear winner in "Holiday." This hard-driving jam opens with percussion that's black and blue enough to make Joan Jett sound like Perry Como, accompanied by a thrashing retro melody line (complete with "Hey!" shout-outs) that might just add up to the catchiest song yet from Billie Joe and the boys. But there is no compromise here: This is Green Day at its colorful post-punk best. "Holiday" is truly a vacation for the ears.—CT

This song is still going #1 even when Audioslave worked around them for the top spot.
Often tracks with huge debuts often lose their bullets once shooting up there and then often just teeter there for a few weeks before either plunging heavily or modestly.
I imagine "Holiday" can take #1 even before "Be Yourself" loses its bullet for the first time. Green Day still remain the hottest band at the moment, even when attention is being brought upon so many new releases from Nine Inch Nails to Audioslave to Coldplay to the White Stripes.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton
