Looks quite official to me. I heard "Wake Me Up When September Ends" was the third single via 94.7 here. Jumped the gun I suppose. But, it makes perfect sense why this is the third single. To give the album longevity, and distance the releases of the obvious singles. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" I consider the "pillars" of this record, pillars because they will also become mainstream smashes, and "Holiday" would be like a support beam between the pillars. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Awesome! Good move!
This will be a hit at Alternative just when the weather starts warming up, and carry on over all the way into early summer. Sounds perfect for that time of year, and more importantly, it will prove Green Day's loyalty to their core format after their inevitable massive crossover to Pop for virtually the first time.
Then "Wake Me Up.." will hit all formats mid Summer, and carry on, appropriately enough, into September.

I don't forsee Green Day not going to #1 with any release from American Idiot, except for if they release Jesus Of Suburbia. No matter who you are, and how much of a buzz you or your album have. A 9 minute single just will NOT suceed.
I remember the surprise from people when 6+ minutes of Schism from Tool spent a week at #1. Then again, that was cause it took the mighty, awesome and overall great Tool to kill the reign of It's Been a While. Unfortunately Tool lost #1 to a mediocre Michael Jackson cover the next week...

#1.
And I'd almost put money on Jesus Of Suburbia being the next single, even if it is edited. They really want to release it, and alternative will eat it up. It's so good. And at this point, if their singles go 3 months each at the most, we'd get September Ends in late July/August, which is perfect timing.

No matter how you look at it, Green Day are THE band of the moment. I'm of the belief that not even a brand spanking new Linkin Park single off of a brand spanking new Linkin Park album would be able to put a dent in Green Day's momentum right now on the charts.
This is THE type of comeback that people keep looking for from bands. The Foo Fighters almost had it, but not quite. Green Day do.

As far as radio friendly goes, "She's a Rebel" could do good. As terms in the album itself it's not very good, but as an individual single it should do great.

Give me novacaine could fare well on alternative at least.I think shes a rebel would be a mistake, if you dont own the record you might find it overly simplistic.how about letterbomb?

Letterbomb could do good. So could Whatsername, or Extraordinary Girl...heck, the whole album could do well, even the 9 minute ones.

Here's how I think the single releases should go (I believe Green Day will go five or six singles into this album with the overwhelming success and buzz.)
1: American Idiot 2: Boulevard of Broken Dreams 3: Holiday 4: Wake Me Up When September Ends 5: Jesus of Suburbia (WITHOUT editing)
or, if they want another potential smash
Extraordinary Girl
The way I see it, "Jesus of Suburbia" may actually get released, it's as though they're working to earn its release, like they must make sure the album reaches its fullest commerical potential. And, especially if they win some Grammys, they'll be rewarded with its release, because the Grammys will immortalize the album's success and "Jesus of Suburbia" will in no way damage the album's promotion, even when there's no way it can go #1. I would personally be proud to see "Jesus of Suburbia" just go Top 30 at least.
But, if they're going to release "Jesus of Suburbia", they CANNOT edit it. Period. Editing one single part would butcher the track, since it is composed in five parts, and each part segues together beautifully. They must release it in its entire 9:08 duration.
And I think they SHOULD release it. After all, all the time I hear so many Alternative listeners say, "Where are all those epic tracks like "Bohemian Rhapsody" on the radio now?" I believe there is so much love for "Jesus of Suburbia" out there, the love alone could take "Jesus of Suburbia" top 30, and I don't think its crazy to say it will touch the Top 20 either.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I disagree with "Give Me Novocaine". It's one of the more laid-back tracks on the record, plus I don't know if the steel guitar/country undercurrents would really appeal there. "She's A Rebel" is radio-friendly, but I agree it's the most simplistic track from the record, and it's only two minutes long. I believe personally sometimes a catchy song doesn't mean it is a great single. "Extraordinary Girl" is the best non-obvious track to be a single in my mind. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Extraordinary girl is most every diehard green day fans least favorite song on AI according to the many polls i've seen,JOS being the favorite. If they release a single after JOS it should be strictly for alternative like holiday will be.That single should be either letterbomb or give me novacaine.Plus I dont think the indian undercurrents in extraordinary girl would fare any better than the steel/country tinges in give me novacaine.

Rock radio didn't edit to my knowledge, but every time I heard it on CT40 (my pop station didn't play it otherwise, now that I think back on it. Or if they did, not much), it was always stopped after the main part was over, which is around the 6 minute point, I believe. (The part in the video right before the bride's funeral starts.)
I'm gonna be so disappointed if Green Day never release JOS at all. Less so if it's released and edited, but hopefully that won't happen.
I definitively listened to the album earlier this week and liked it (and especially JOS) more than ever before.

Oh man, great video. I know Boulevard is a huge hit, but I have a feeling this will be even bigger.

If they know what's good for them, they won't release this for at least another 2-3 months.

Oh man, great video. I know Boulevard is a huge hit, but I have a feeling this will be even bigger. I doubt it'll be bigger, but because Green Day is immensely popular at the moment, I believe this could make a hat trick of chart toppers for the band from this record. And yes, I agree this shouldn't be all-out promoted until mid-to-late February. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

"Holiday" is #33 right now and already #19 in audience. I wonder if stations will be patient and hold onto to this one while they wane away on bobd, especially on rock and alternative stations.
