They're coming off of a debut record that generated five Top-20 hits, four of them Top 5. Actually, only three of them went top 5 ("Cochise" peaked at #8).

Yeah, this was #51 yesterday. It's rising even faster than the recent Beck, QOTSA, and Garbage songs.

"Show Me How To Live" is their most awesome single to date, to me. I actually heard this song first in Colombia some 2 years ago. ("Show Me How To Live", I mean.)

I actually think this song is pretty decent...they are going to burn it out way too soon though. At this rate, it will be in the top 10 within a week...2 months before the album is out?

The biggest debut I've ever seen is LP's "Somewhere I Belong"...debuted at #2 in it's first week. But then it peaked like 2 weeks later. When you start out so high, there's nowhere to go but down.

"Somewhere I Belong" debuted at #4 on R&R. I don't think that's a record though. I think "Discotheque" by U2 debuted at #3.

Where did "By The Way" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers debut? "Megalomaniac" also had a big debut last year.

"Megalomaniac" also had a big debut last year. That debuted at #7. It was the first chart of the year when it debuted though, so it had three weeks to gain airplay instead of one.

I love this song. Instant A from me. I heard more than half of it on KPNT and the whole thing on a fantastic Alt station in Southeast Missouri that I listen to every time I drive directly from Memphis to St. Louis (or vice versa, in this case). I don't know if it was on the same station or not (there seem to be at least 3 or 4 great Alt stations in various places in southeast MO), but I also heard "Turn to Gold" for the first time, thinking that was another new one. Come to find out it's a b-side I'd never heard of before. Too bad it wasn't on the album, becuz it was solid and had an inspired guitar solo, something I feel most Audioslave songs don't have.
On Cape Girardeau's Alt station (different name and frequency than when I last drove through; I got scared for a moment), I heard a slew of great tunes, most of which I'd not previously heard on radio. Ones I remember: Descendents "Nothing with You" (!) (when I landed on it) The Donnas "Too Bad About Your Girl" (!) The Darkness "Growing on Me" Portishead "Glory Box" (!) The Donnas "Fall Behind Me" (this was at least an hour past "TBAYG".) Bowling for Soup "The Bitch Song" (a craptacular song I had to look up using its lyrics; predates "Girl All the Bad Guys Want"!) I only heard a few more, but I wish I could remember them.

This song is SOOOO boring. Ugh. Can you believe that Tom and Co. went from Rage Against the Machine to THIS?

This song is SOOOO boring. Ugh. Can you believe that Tom and Co. went from Rage Against the Machine to THIS? Yes. They are all talented musicians, have families, and that was almost 10 years ago. These guys now are older and weren't going to bitch about the government or salute Che Guevara forever. Great Song, can't wait for the album

I'm not saying they need to do angry, anti-gov't songs or whatever, I'm aware they've 'grown'... but this is just a new low. I enjoyed their first album somewhat, but this sounds like they took a bunch of valiums and started jamming in the recording booth.
If you think this song is great, you are in need of new ears.

I like it, so please buy me a pair of new ears. Kind of sad to resort to insulting people based on their opinion of music, which is entirely subjective.

I heard this yesterday evening and I can't say I got this song, although it was only one listen in which I went through half of it not even knowing what it was.

You just opened up the floodgates here. No one should ever have to "buy themselves a pair of new ears" just because you don't agree with their taste in music. Someone can just as easily tell you that you need a new pair of ears for not liking this song. Now how would you take that statement? I can't say I've heard this song yet, but since its already at #11 and looks to be the mandatory song of the year to debut in the top 10, I'm sure it can't be that bad. Sure there was Somewhere I Belong and My Sacrifice, but music and the opinions regarding it are subjective, so I won't say anything more.

It's good, but a little slower for a first single. Then again, I always thought "Like a Stone" was Audioslave's first single.

How was this not instantly recognizable as Audioslave to you? And I meant to put a minus after my "A" grade, although it likely will upgrade to at least "A" status soon enough. Also, after cruising through the whole "E-Pro" topic again, I remembered another unexpected tune I heard in Cape Girardeau: "Go to Sleep" by Radiohead. I also felt the "new ears" comment was out of line. I wasn't personally offended by it enough to say anything, but I admire the words from ydoucare and Leo.

Just plain wasn't expecting it, that's all. And therefore, not paying attention, until I finally proclaimed "wait a minute, this is that "Be Yourself" song...".

Well OK, but I didn't even know to expect a new Audioslave song, so when I flipped it to KPNT and heard it, I thought, "Whoa, is this a new Audioslave tune, or just a b-side getting random airplay a la "We Got the Whip"? And the DJ came on right afterward, saying it was their new single. And it was refreshing to hear a new rock tune that was angst-free.

Okay looks like I'm gonna have to start listening to my active rock station again so I can hear this. After their last album, I'm very excited to hear some new Audioslave, hope they keep it up.
