Ugh...they're back with the same producer that made Gravity sound bland and tuneless. And Mike Turner is still gone.
Just like Weezer was a shell of their former selves after Matt Sharp left, OLP will probably never release anything as good as the stuff they were making when Turner was still in the band. His guitar sound absolutely made their music.

It took them a long time but finally something is here. I'm doubtful about this being a success though.

i cannot wait to hear this, as one of the bands biggest fans, i have to say that i kinda hate seeing them overlooked stateside while some bands that constantly release the exam same type of songs keep churning hit after hit. I definately will be picking up the new album when it comes out.

I agree, it's no "Somewhere Out There".

I agree, it's no "Somewhere Out There". I've forgotten how that song goes but I know I liked it a lot when it came out. Hate when that happens.

After a couple listens, I like this. I'm glad they finally left their crappy pop sound.

I heard half of the song of my radio today. I dont know if im the only one, but i taugh it was a new song by Good Charlotte. I was surprised when i heard the DJ saying its new Our Lady Peace. I hope it will grow for me, i like this band.

I haven't heard this yet, but I sure hope I don't hear the same thing as you did.

It's decent, but I doubt they're going to make much of an impression here, from here on out in that manner.
"Somewhere Out There" basically was the song that most would think of in the U.S when they hear their name, and it was little Alternative-friendly.
Hot AC and CHR/Pop are probably their best bet at further exposure.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

"Somewhere Out There" basically was the song that most would think of in the U.S when they hear their name, and it was little Alternative-friendly. That's true except for the part about it not being Alternative-friendly, as I think it very much was, in addition to being multi-format friendly in general. Because Alternative really had no other reason to play "Somewhere Out There"; OLP had always been, to the US, one of those bands from up there that just hung around and kept making all these under-the-radar albums. I think the new song sounds like an attempt by the band to make a song that doesn't sound like "Somewhere Out There". They'd sound like complete newcomers if not for Raine's distinct vocals in the chorus. He doesn't really stand out as being recognizable anywhere else, and the faster tempo seems unusual for them. I'm still on the fence with this song, but leaning toward the good side, and hopefully I can decide for sure before too long because this is already the top song at 89x, so more than likely it'll sound pretty stale after about a month or so.

I really disagree that most people are only going to think of Somewhere Out There seeing as how OLP's albums have always still sold well here in the States despite being way more popular in Canada and most of their singles have done well at radio.
Meanwhile, I'm super glad that they're back. OLP is one of my favorite bands, and while I do like their earlier albums better, I think Gravity is an underrated album. Although I also didn't like Naveed at all and that seems to be what most old OLP fans like the best, so I dunno.
However, I've heard this song and demos of other stuff on the album and I think it's going to be much better than Gravity. I'm very excited.
