If you looked at any random chart from a few years ago and looked at the chart positions, how do you think your tastes would change if those same songs were current today?
I look at my September 2000 chart and here is my Top 10: #10 Why Didn't You Call Me - Macy Gray #9 Big Pimpin - Jay-Z #8 Breathless - Corrs #7 Given Up On You - Lara Fabian #6 Faded - soulDecision #5 Jumpin' Jumpin - Destiny's Child #4 Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down #3 Music - Madonna #2 Come On Over - Christina Aguilera #1 Souls - Chantal Kreviazuk
Macy would probably peak Top 40 at best with that song today and 'I Try' (which was a #1) would probably never see the Top 20 at all. The Corrs probably wouldn't peak Top 10 if that song were released today. Souldecision would probably be lucky to chart. Destiny's Child and Christina Aguilera's former #1s would probably make Top 20 but maybe not Top 10.
Although I won't be changing my chart's history anytime soon, it's sometimes interesting how you can look at old charts and see how you under or overpeaked some songs that you'd never chart today.

Well two years ago this week, my Top 10 consisted of:
10. "What's Going On," All Star Tribute 9. "Son Of A Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You)," Janet featuring Missy Elliott & Carly Simon 8. "Caramel," City High featuring Eve 7. "I'm Real," Jennifer Lopez featuring Ja Rule 6. "Gone," 'N Sync 5. "Fallin'," Alicia Keys 4. "Get The Party Started," Pink 3. "Family Affair," Mary J. Blige 2. "I'm A Slave 4 U," Britney Spears 1. "Emotion,"Destiny's Child
I don't think I would change much about it if it was now, maybe bump down Janet, All Star Tribute and/or 'N Sync.

gEoGuY'z wEEkLy biLLb0ard cHaRt! November 17, 2001 - November 24, 2001 LW TW Song Title (Artist) Total Weeks Peak Position 04 01 Drowning (Backstreet Boys) 07 01 02 02 Miracles Happen [remix] (Myra) 07 02 03 03 Son Of A Gun [remix] (Janet f/ Missy Elliot) 06 03 01 04 Whenever, Wherever (Shakira) 07 01 10 05 Ain't It Funny [remix] (J.Lo f/ Ja Rule) 05 06 Did Ya' Understand That (Willa Ford) 07 05 06 07 A Woman's Worth (Alicia Keys) 05 06 08 08 Butterflies (Michael Jackson) 04 08 09 09 Family Affair (Mary J. Blige) 04 09 07 10 Don't Stop [Funkin' 4 Jamaica] (Mariah Carey f/ Mystikal) 07 01
"Drowning" would peak top 10 today, but not #1. (lower) "Miracles Happen" would definitely hit #1 today. (same) "Son Of A Gun" probably would have peaked top 5. (same/lower) "Whenever, Wherever" would have still hit #1 today. (same) "Ain't It Funny" would have ended up a #1 hit today, as it did later in 2001. (same) "Did Ya Understand That" would have probably peaked top 3 today. (higher) "A Woman's Worth" would probably hit #1, as it did in 2002. (same) "Butterflies" would have peaked top 3 today, before the scandal. (higher) "Family Affair" would have probably peaked right where it did in 2001. (same) "Don't Stop" would have hit #1 today, as it did in 2001. (same)

HITWEEK TOP 50 (#1 - #10) Week ending 11/24/01
01. How You Remind Me - Nickelback 02. Rock the Boat - Aaliyah 03. Family Affair - May J. Blige 04. Girls Girls Girls - Jay-Z 05. Caramel - City High ft. Eve 06. #1 - Nelly 07. A Woman's Worth - Alicia Keys 08. Sweet Baby - Macy Gray 09. Emotion - Destiny's Child 10. Turn Off the Light - Nelly Furtado
First off... two years ago I was into R&B/Hip-Hop big time. If these songs were all current today, I will say the following things:
Aaliyah would've only peaked at #5 / #6 with Rock the Boat. Mary J. Blige would've been basically the same. Alicia Keys would've peaked at #7 (that song eventually made it to #1), Macy Gray would've only peaked around #20. Destiny's Child would've stayed basically the same. City High and Nelly Furtado would've peaked around #15. Nelly probably wouldn't have even made top forty (or fifty). Nickelback, most likely, would still be #1, though.

This was how my chart looked like two years ago
TW LW WOC PP 10 08 09 7(2) Britney Spears - "I'm A Slave 4 U" *09 13 04 09 Pink - "Get This Party Started" 08 05 15 1(2) Staind - "Fade" *07 09 13 07 Aaliyah - "Rock The Boat" 06 06 10 6(4) System Of A Down - "Chop Suey!" 05 07 14 4(7) Destiny's Child - "Emotion 04 03 15 1(7) Mariah Carey - "Never Too Far" 03 01 09 1(2) Mariah Carey / Mystikal - "Don't Stop (Funkin 4 Jamica)" *02 04 07 01 Faith Evan - "You Gets No Love " 01 02 05 01 Janet / Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot / Carly Simon - "Son Of A Gun (Remix)"
There is probably only a few things that I would change in my top ten if these songs were out today. "Rock The Boat" wouldn't of gone top ten. Especially if IDKWTTY couldn't make it and that is a much superior song imo. System Of A Down probably would've crashed and burned before it hit the top ten. The only other change I would make is that Britney probably would've gone to number one.

Oops my bad. I was on a wicked Mariah high at this point in my chart. She not only had 2 top tens that week. But "Reflections (Care Enough)" had just falling out of the top ten and landed at #11. Plus "Loverboy" was still on my chart it was in it's 24th week.
