Out of curiousity, does an event like Michael Jackson's arrest change a song's course on your chart?
To be specific, did the recent events affect the chart run of "One More Chance" (for those of you who charted it)?

If I had been charting "One More Chance" (which I thought about a while ago,) I know for sure that the song wouldn't just plummet off the chart, but it may slow down a bit. When the Dixie Chicks thing happened, "Landslide" was the #1 song on my chart. The incident didn't make me like the song any less, but the song's rapid dissapearance on everyone else's chart probably did shorten its reign. I felt weird having the only chart left with the Chicks at #1. Kind of a strange explanation, but it's an honest one.

I was planning on re-entering Michael Jackson's "One More Chance" upon release of the remixes, but that will not be happening now.

I really don't like OMC very much and had no plans on charting it. That being said if I did like the song it wouldn't chart now.

No, it doesn't. "One More Chance" is currently #20 on my chart and will likely continue to rise.
As for the Dixie Chicks, "Landslide" fell 15-29 the week before Natalie's comments about Bush. This was due to burnout, as I was getting incredibly sick of the song due to overplay. It did not affect "Travelin' Soldier"'s rise, as it would end up peaking at #34.

I already don't like any of MJ's songs, so, he wouldn't have charted anyway - with or without the molestation charges.

I think outside influences effect my chart, definately!
For example, back when I listened to AT40 more, chart movements (such as a Top 40 entry or a big move or hitting #1) could have a huge effect on my chart. Nowadays, hearing a song on the radio for a first time can push a song way up! Going to a concert has been known to help a song. I think 'Julia' by Chantal hit #1 mainly because it was around the time of the concert that I saw her. During the R.Kelly thing, I kinda vowed not to chart him on my chart. Not like a rule but it was kinda like a bad aftertaste. But he did make the Top 40 twice since. Although outside influences don't effect my chart as much as they used to. As for MJ, he probably wouldn't have made my chart regardless.

When the Dixie Chicks were making talk with their comments about the President. I decided not to chart "Landslide" at all.

Wouldn't make a difference to me, had I been charting it.

After that scandal broke out, I simply lost interest in the song. "One More Chance" dropped out the following week, from its peak at #37. It wouldn't have made my top 10 anyways.
Because of R. Kelly's scandal, I didn't chart "Ignition" at all. Now I regret it, because it probably would have stolen some weeks at #1 from Ja Rule/Ashanti's "Mesmerize." However, "Snake" and "Step In The Name Of Love" charted.
For whatever reasons, I didn't like Avril. "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi," and "I'm With You" did not chart, although I liked them at some point or another. "Losing Grip" did chart, and it peaked at #24.

I think outside influences effect my chart, definately! . Mine too!!! I would have never charted OMC though. I couldn't stand the song before the whole scandal broke out. But if I did like it , it would've fallen off from wherever it was at. Because when the news broke the first thing I did was delete my OMC mp3. The first time allegations were thrown around I was very hesitant to chart anything off "HIStory". The whole Dixie Chicks controversy made me chart them higher !!!! I agree with Natalie's comments and I loved the fact she had the balls to say it. "Travelin Solider" probably wouldn't of charted and neither would "Top Of The World". As a matter of fact I had no interest in DC before the scandal broke out. R Kelly was not affected at all. I actually charted Mariah higher and longer after he "emotional breakdown" , but I think that was just because I loved "Glitter" so much. So scandals work both ways on my chart.

Yeah i think they do. i personally don't think Michael is guilty so I still like his stuff the same. I was affected by R Kelly and i did choose not to chart his stuff. But more significantly was during the Dixie Chicks mess. I still and will always support Natalie and the Chicks! My problem is with Toby Keith. He was sooo outspoken against Natalie and the country radio industry embraced him 100% which infuriated me. And i guess because of all that i cannot get into his stuff anymore. I actually liked his stuff alot, but i can't get into him anymore.
