Going Back through my archives tonight, I realized that there were so many deserving songs that really got the shaft by being stuck at #2. Whether it be an incredible number of weeks stuck at the runner-up spot, or just a song you grew to love after it was already too late, which song do you most regret peaking at #2?
Out of these, my favorite #2 songs... 1997: I Want You - Savage Garden (2 weeks) 1997: Building A Mystery - Sarah McLachlan (5 weeks) 1998: Real World - Matchbox 20 (7 weeks) 1998: Bittersweet Symphony - Verve (6 weeks) 1999: All Star - Smash Mouth (5 weeks) 1999: Meet Virginia - Train (1 week)
... I'm gonna have to go with "Bittersweet Symphony." Now one of my all-time favorites.

Good topic!
I only started my chart in 2001...
I kind of wish "No Letting Go" by Wayne Wonder snuck in a week at #1. It got to #2 behind Bon Jovi's "Misunderstood." "No Letting Go" was a big hit for me, but it was more of a longevity hit than something I couldn't get enough of in any one particular week, but it'll probably be in my Top 3 of the year ahead of most of my #1's from this year.

My most recent one is Jason Mraz's 'You And I Both'. It was trapped behind the monsterous #1 by Matchbox Twenty. :(

I think I'd have to say Res' "They-Say Vision".
Others which are deserving: Kelly Rowland's "Can't Nobody", TLC's "Damaged", Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You" and RHCP's "Can't Stop".

Nelly Furtado - I'm Like A Bird and Turn Off The Light. Both of which lasted 30+ weeks in my top 40, yet only peaked at #2 (Turn Off The Light was my #1 of 2001).

I wish I'd given at least one of Evanescence's first two singles a week at #1. Instead, they were both stuck at #2 for multiple weeks. "My Immoral" is still going strong though, so that could give them their first #1.

I can only think of two songs right off the top of my head. "If You're Not The One" spent 12 weeks at #2 which of course is the record. This song is definitely going to be in my top 5 of the year. "Tell Me" by Mel B was the first song ever to debut in the top 5 and she stalled at # 2 for a month or so. It had an amazing chart run and is still a big favorite of mine.

TLC - Girl Talk. They came within 7 points of #1, and it took a combination of Matchbox 20 "Disease", Kelly Rowland "Stole", and Avril Lavigne "I'm With You" to completely keep them from #1.
No Doubt - Running. This was supposed to hit #1 the week of 4/19, but I was unable to post a chart that week, and Evanescence "Bring Me to Life" lept 10-1 the next week.
Avril Lavigne - Things I'll Never Say. I wanted this to hit #1 to keep her streak of #1s alive, but unfortunately Kelly Clarkson "Low" and Hilary Duff "So Yesterday" got in the way.

I had 4 songs peak at #2 in 1997 when they should all have reached #1 at one point or another.
