This is my other Top 40 chart that I do based on songs I own on CD. I often reference it here on the boards. This chart has been on the go since 1995 and it stronger than ever! I'll do the Top 100 in 10-song segments.
Last year's #1 song was Chantal Kreviazuk with 'Leading Me Home', which broke the record for most weeks at #1 when it spent 14 weeks in a row on top. It was also Chantal's first time ever to have the #1 song of any yearend chart as her biggest hits usually crossed over two years.
Here are the year's #1 songs (13 songs): Chantal Kreviazuk - In This Life (4 weeks) (7 in total) Martina Sorbara - Once I Was Mighty (6 weeks) Tori Amos - Taxi Ride (3 weeks) Martina Sorbara - The End Of The World (9 weeks) Jason Mraz - The Remedy (4 weeks) Jewel - Intuition (5 weeks) Chantal Kreviazuk - Julia (2 weeks) Martina Sorbara - This Ship (2 weeks) Matchbox Twenty - Bright Lights (8 weeks) Jason Mraz - You And I Both (3 weeks) David Usher - Time Of Our Lives (1 week) Martina Sorbara - Claudia (4 weeks) Michelle Branch - Breathe (1 week)
Jason Mraz was the only new artist in 2003 to hit #1 with his first hit. Michelle Branch also had her first hit 2003 but 'Breathe' was her second hit. Everyone else had #1s before so 2003 was the year of veterns. -Chantal Kreviazuk had her 14th and 15th #1 in 2003. -Martina Sorbara had her 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th #1 and became the first artist to ever have four #1s in a single calender year. -Matchbox Twenty had their 4th #1. -Jewel had her 6th #1 -David Usher had his 3rd #1 -Tori Amos had her 1st #1 but it was her 4th Top 40 hit.
Some oddities of the chart year: -Jason Mraz spent 7 weeks at #2 before hitting #1 with 'You And I Both'. He did it without a bullet and was bulletless a month prior to hitting #1. -Chantal Kreviazuk's 'Time' also spent 7 weeks at #2 but didn't hit #1. The record for most weeks peaking at #2 remains Alanis' with 'So Pure' at 9 weeks. -Avril Lavigne spent 7 weeks peaking at #11 with 'I Don't Give'. -Martina Sorbara originally peaked at #3 with 'Claudia' last Fall ('02) but it made the chart again in late 2003 and eventually hit #1.
Here's the Top 100.

I forgot to mention how the chart is tabulated. I kinda make it like an airplay chart so it's based on imagination with me giving "airplay points" to each song each week. Songs go through the whole going for adds process and stuff. Just for comparison, here's this week's Top 10:
#10 Obie Trice - Got Some Teeth (794; -24) #9 Erin McKeown - Slung Lo (816; +16) #8 Matchbox Twenty - Brlight Lights (879; -56) #7 Bubba Sparxxx - Deliverance (891; -76) #6 Jason Mraz - You And I Both (895; -56) #5 Chantal Kreviazuk - What If It All Means Something (898; +27) #4 Sarah McLachlan - Fallen (945; +30) #3 Outkast - Hey Ya! (999; +10) #2 Martina Sorbara - Claudia (1139; -98) #1 Michelle Branch - Breathe (1142; -16)
Note that the newer songs aren't gaining much while the older songs aren't losing much (and in some cases are gaining) due to the whole yearend thing. ;) Gains for Chantal, Sarah and Outkast would be much bigger now and will be bigger in a few weeks.

#10: Holly McNarland - Losing My Face from the CD: Home Is Where My Feet Are peak: #2 (5 weeks) total points: 20,043
Holly's third #2 peaker in a row after 'Watching Over You' and 'Beautiful Blue'. This song follows 'BB' as both had five weeks at #2.
#9: Martina Sorbara - Once I Was Mighty from the CD: The Cure For Bad Deeds peak: #1 (6 weeks) total points: 21,205
Martina's second chart topper on The Max, the first of four in 2003 and second of five overall.
#8: Martina Sorbara - This Ship from the CD: The Cure For Bad Deeds peak: #1 (2 weeks) total points: 21,477
Second highest of Martina's five hits for the entire year and her fourth #1 overall. Currently the song with the least weeks at #1 for her however.
#7: Tori Amos - Strange from the CD: Scarlet's Walk peak: #3 (5 weeks) total points: 21,991
Tori's fifth hit since her first back in 1997 and her third Top 10, all of which came from her most recent CD. This song spent over a month at #3 and continues to chart in the Top 20 after over half a year in the Top 40.
#6: Tegan And Sara - Monday Monday Monday from the CD: If It Was You peak #3 (3 weeks) total points: 22,312
This song almost stalled near the bottom of the Top 10 and almost lost its bullet but got a resurge and went on to peak at #3 with 18 total weeks in the Top 10 alone. Also the #1 song by inverse points.

#5: Chantal Kreviazuk - Time from the CD: What If It All Means Something (&) Uptown Girls Soundtrack peak: #2 (7 weeks) total points: 22,536
Chantal's highest of her four songs in the yearend chart, all of which are Top 20. This is the first officially released song from Chantal that didn't hit #1 since 'Believer' in 1997. Every song that was officially released has topped the chart except those two. It stood 7 weeks behind Martina Sorbara.
#4: Martina Sorbara - The End Of The World from the CD: The Cure For Bad Deeds peak: #1 (9 weeks) total points: 22,611
Martina's highest of her five hits in 2003 and it ties Bonnie And Clyde II as her song with the most weeks at #1. Since B&C2 hit #1 late 2002, Martina has spent a total of 30 weeks at #1.
#3: Jason Mraz - The Remedy (I Won't Worry) from the CD: Waiting For My Rocket To Come peak: #1 (4 weeks) total points: 23,774
Jason's song entered in March of 2003 and by September, it was top of the chart pointwise and it looked as if 'The Remedy' would be #1 for the entire year but it was passed midway through November by two other songs.

#2: Jason Mraz - You And I Both from the CD: Waiting For My Rocket To Come peak: #1 (3 weeks) total points: 26,800
Jason had the advantage of only having two songs chart in 2003 as the third single from his album has not yet been released to MT40, thus leaving lots of room to gather points for two of his singles. 'You And I Both' had the highest entry of 2003 while having the following chart run: 16-7-4-4-3-3-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-1-1-1-2-3-3-3-5-6 That's seven weeks at #2 before hitting #1 for three weeks and 22 weeks in the Top 40 with 21 in the Top 10. This song is also practically gauranteed a high spot on the yearend chart for 2004 as its loses point-wise aren't that large just yet. With this song, Jason became the first male artist to hit #1 with his first two singles on MT40 so he might carry on his run with the next release.

#1: Matchbox Twenty - Bright Lights from the CD: More Than You Think You Are peak: #1 (8 weeks) total points: 29,611
Both this song and Jason held the Top 2 for 7 weeks in a row and this song spent tons of weeks in the Top 3 on its own, as well as breaking point records for reaching a point-peak of 1,481 in one week. This song became Matchbox Twenty's fourth #1 single since their first in 1997. It entered the Top 40 in June and had a kinda slow rise up the chart until it stormed into #1 where it spent 8 weeks. So far, they haven't had a followup Top 40 single so that has worked out for them as Matchbox Twenty have the #1 song of 2003 on Michael's Top 40.
