The first chart of the year sees five debuts and four(!) re-entries. No Doubt and OutKast continue to battle it out for #1, and Santana f/Alex Band or Chad Kroeger reach their 40th week. Pulse 100: January 6, 2004 (link)Index page has yet to be updated.

I'll make the announcement in here. Pulse Callout will be a bi-weekly thing from now on. :) Because people probably aren't interested in voting each week and the numbers aren't as high as I'd like. So starting this weekend, I should have the new one up and then there'll be a two week time period between the new ones. :) YAY!!

I'm surprised at how fast Britney's song is exploding.

There is a mistake on the top 100 droppers; it says "Too Lost In You" falls off, when it was actually "Hole In The Head" that dropped off instead.
I lead/co-lead on: 3. Evanescence - My Immortal (#1) 49. Finger Eleven - One Thing (#7)
I haven't heard: 41. Incubus - Megalomaniac 51. Staind - How About You 58. Lostprophets - Last Train Home 67. Travis - Re-Offender 94. AFI - Silver and Cold 99. A Perfect Circle - The Outsider

Wow, I hope the White Stripes' jump this week means they're going to keep rising instead of, say, falling back down to the 90s. ;)
And I didn't even realize "Silver And Cold" fell off. Especially after debuting at #81.
(Co)leading: 1) Outkast - Hey Ya (#1) 45) Audioslave - I Am The Highway (#3) 63) The White Stripes - The Hardest Button To Button (#5) 94) AFI - Silver And Cold (#9)
Haven't heard: 100) Nickelback - Figured You Out 98) Delta Goodrem - Not Me Not I 97) Madonna - Love Profusion 96) G-Unit - Stunt 101 93) Missy Elliott - Pass That Dutch 88) Girls Aloud - Jump (For My Love) 83) Hilary Duff - Come Clean 82) Tarralyn Ramsey - Up Against All Odds 81) Ruben Studdard - Sorry 2004 69) Mary J. Blige with Eve - Not Today 57) Simply Red - Sunrise 56) Chingy - Holidae Inn 22) Britney Spears - Toxic
87%.

Leads/Co-leads: #3 Evanescence - "My Immortal"
Matt, so why do we actually post leads and co-leads? And with this being 2004's first chart, did the number of reporters increase? How many reporters submit to The Pulse 100 now?
Josh, the rapid rise of Britney's "Toxic" probably has to do with me... well, if not this week, I'm pretty sure I will partly be the reason in the next several weeks.

You don't have to post them. It's just something to see what songs are highest on your chart. There were 6 new reporters this week (including 1 who was dropped last week) and 1 dropped reporter. The panel increased by 5, from 55 to 60.

I did it once, and I don't feel like doing it again for at least a month.

insect2, it was my re-entrence of Pulse that had gave the White Stripes greatest gainer honors (tho maybe not fully, but it's at #6 for me).
I lead/co-lead on:
#5. Kelis - "Milkshake" (#1) 70. blink-182 - "I Miss You" (#10) 71. Stone Temple Pilots - "All In The Suit That You Wear" (#4) 99. A Perfect Circle - "The Outsider" (#19)
Haven't heard: 18. Beyonce - "Me, Myself, and I" 20. Kelly Clarkson - "The Trouble With Love Is" 22. Britney Spears - "Toxic" 42. Kylie Minogue - "Slow" 50. Five For Fighting - "100 Years" 77. Madonna - "Nothing Fails" 78. Kiley Dean - "Who Will I Run To?" 80. Ruben Studdard - "Sorry 2004" 83. Hilary Duff - "Come Clean" 88. Girls Aloud - "Jump (For My Love)" 97. Madonna - "Love Profusion" (actually I have, but don't remember it) 98. Delta Goodrem - "Not Me, Not I"
88%. And I doubt I'd really care for many of these if I did hear them.

I agree. When I used to fill out call outs for stations, I got one a month at the most. There are tons of songs out. What I would do is rotate between more than one set of fifty songs. The number of songs people rate in report card topics is way more than 50 if they listen to multiple genres. I agree that it's not necessary to rate almost the same set of songs every week. Another idea I have would be to rate the Top 40 and the next ten songs that haven't been rated yet to give those songs a chance.

I agree that it's not necessary to rate almost the same set of songs every week. Well, then when will you know when "burn" or "familiarity" starts to set in and permeate the general consciousness of society?

Matt, Was I the dropped reporter from the previous week, due to not getting my chart in on time?

Matt, Was I the dropped reporter from the previous week, due to not getting my chart in on time? Nope, it was halo20 who was dropped but returned to the panel last week. From my records, you did turn in your chart in on time. I wonder if in the initial post I make for each weekly Pulse 100 topic, I should name the people who are subject to being dropped the next week.
