I was gonna guess #58, but your new clue threw me for a loop. I thought it would have simplified things. Think again, what was the last chart that Casey counted down in 1989? And I did mention that insect's guess a while back was very close (so close, in fact, it shares an album with the answer). I know you guys can get this now. ;)

oops... caught in a timewarp It happens sometimes. Yes, the answer was "Faith"...just not the Faith that immediately came to mind. #58 is left, and I've given a bit more help in the post above. Next up: 50. A song about a really crazy dancer. 49. It's that prolific duo, yet, again. Are they stalking us? I think they've been watching everything we do? 48. "Hocus pocus", "alakazam", and this word are often spoken by magicians while performing their tricks. 47. This song has a lot in common with one's aura or atmosphere and those color-changing lizards.

58. Janet Jackson - Miss You Much There you go! This would be the last song that Casey counted down during the 80s. The last chart of the year would've been the 1989 year-end chart (i.e. why you had to think beyond the weekly charts). And this was number one for the year. 49. Daryl Hall & John Oates - Private Eyes 48. Steve Miller Band - Abracadabra 47. Culture Club - Karma Chameleon All correct. #50 still remains. The rest of the 40s: 46. This artist was often mistaken for Bruce Springsteen. He even wrote a song about the whole identity problem. This was his biggest Billboard hit... 45. ...and this was his biggest R&R hit. (Yes, they're back-to-back. It just sort of happened that way.) 44. After a long absence from the charts, Ike's leggy ex-wife made a huge come-back with this hit. 43. That other big hit from the group at #68. 42. Five years after this hit, the female in this duet would top the chart as part of another duet. Six years after this hit, a cover that the male in this duet did would start being used as the theme for The Wonder Years. 41. The first number one for the piano man.

46. Rick Springfield - Jessie's Girl 45. Rick Springfield - Don't Talk To Strangers 44. Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It 43. REO Speedwagon - Keep On Loving You 42. Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes - Up Where We Belong 41. Billy Joel - It's Still Rock n Roll To Me All good. We still lack #50, though. I said it was about a crazy dancer...who's danced like they've never danced before. ;) 40. Apparently, the other three performers weren't friendly enough to receive equal artist billing. 39. The first number one hit for a really huge artist who has managed to make an appearance in the top 40 at least once every calendar year since her debut. 38. King Tut and the Pharoahs are likely to locomote in this manner. 37. You're talking about, I'm talking about, together we're talking about this popular artist and songwriter and one of his many number one hits. 36. This one-word song was played so much that you might have wondered how you were supposed to live without it. It may have taken a lot of self-control to avoid listening to it.

All caught up, now. With #50 solved, we can recap the third quarter:
80 A-Ha - Take On Me 79 Steve Winwood - Roll With It 78 Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton - Islands In The Stream 77 Blondie - The Tide Is High 76 Guns 'N Roses - Sweet Child 'O Mine 75 Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting 74 Patti Austin and James Ingram - Baby, Come To Me 73 Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time 72 Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald - On My Own 71 Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) 70 Stevie Wonder - I Just Called To Say I Love You 69 Poison - Every Rose Has It's Thorn 68 REO Speedwagon - Can't Fight This Feeling 67 Chicago - Look Away 66 Heart - Alone 65 Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart 64 Huey Lewis and The News - The Power Of Love 63 The Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) 62 Diana Ross - Upside Down 61 Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters 60 Wham! - Careless Whisper 59 Prince and The Revolution - Let's Go Crazy 58 Janet Jackson - Miss You Much 57 Daryl Hall and John Oates - Kiss On My List 56 Lionel Richie - Hello 55 George Michael - Faith 54 Lipps, Inc. - Funkytown 53 Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love 52 John Cougar - Hurts So Good 51 Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer 50 Michael Sembello - Maniac 49 Daryl Hall and John Oates - Private Eyes 48 Steve Miller Band - Abracadabra 47 Culture Club - Karma Chameleon 46 Rick Springfield - Jessie's Girl 45 Rick Springfield - Don't Talk To Strangers 44 Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It? 43 REO Speedwagon - Keep On Loving You 42 Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes - Up Where We Belong 41 Billy Joel - It's Still Rock And Roll To Me
And moving forward:
35. A British synth-pop group that scored two Billboard number ones, but never topped the R&R chart. Guess that magazine didn't want them as much.
34. This Steve Perry led act would like to embrace you. Probably to celebrate thier biggest hit of the decade.
33. A song that was sampled very recently for a tune by Simply Red.
32. Just a little ditty about two people.
31. "Weird Al" Yankovic put his name on the map (and made his only appearance on the pop chart) with a parody of this hit.

35. The Human League - Don't You Want Me 33. Daryl Hall & John Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) Got 'em! Moving on: 30. A well-known English idiom: "_________ and fancy free." 29. A song from a movie that starred Dudley Moore. It seems #29 is the best that the artist could do on this chart. 28. This song was number one at a sad time. It's popularity picked up because of the artist's untimely death. 27. This act shares it's name with a famous dog...a dog who followed a yellow brick road. 26. First number one for an artist who beat the odds and became one of the decade's biggest hitmakers.

Phil Collins - Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now) All correct. I suppose, like my 90s game, this just gets easier as we start to run out of songs: 25. The title of this song is rather...cannibalistic. 24. A song expressing admiration for those women who appear in the middle part of a men's magazine. 23. David Copperfield is, currently, one of the more well-known practitioners of this. 22. Unlike similarly named groups, this group isn't named after their frontman. If it were, they'd change their name pretty often. 21. As much as the title might imply, this song has nothing to do wth the sun or the moon or their relative position to one another.

Last set of five, then I'll do like I did last time and unveil the top 15 in chunks of three: 20. The biggest hit of the decade for James Brolin's politically outspoken wife. 19. This act is singing about a, largely, outmoded musical device. Besides, these days, you can't get music anywhere for 10 cents. 18. From the title of this song, you get the impression that this former Commodore is nocturnal. 17. One of the only two top 40 hits that this cult-favorite British classic rock band has had. The album that it's from was made into a movie. 16. The biggest hit of the decade for this royal British foursome.

The three of you are five-for-five!
15. This was the biggest selling song of the decade. It's airplay, however, came up short due to it's lyrical content. That's why it never topped the R&R chart.
14. One of the most memorable videos of the decade. It featured the artist dancing along a sidewalk, lighting up the floor panels as he went.
13. First number one of the 80s for an act known for their unique brand of sound -- combining elements of rock and jazz -- and creating some memorable pop hits in the process.

OK, is it "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago? It is. Edging into the "top dozen" now: 12. The title of this song is biologically impossible. Birds don't have tear ducts. 11. Sarai sang about many of these in her hit just last year. This venerable country artist will stick with just the one. 10. Proof that two races can, in fact, get along.

Cerebro, where are you with the rest of the clues? (Or the next three, anyway)
That is assuming my guess is correct...
