Before I reveal what I have seen as the 20 biggest musical terds of 2004 so far, here's a few dishonorable mentions:
Songs on this lists I either haven't heard enough, or are too new to make the list, but can easily graduate to the list at the end of the year:
Amanda Perez - I Pray (Me too...)
Britney Spears - Boom Boom (Thank God this wasn't the official single!!!)
Fantasia Barrino - I Believe (Luckily, haven't heard the muppet ruin this song in awhile)
Juvenile - Slow Motion (Don't worry, it's still young)
Mase - Welcome Back (Sometimes you praise yourself so much that you forget to write a good song)
Petey deleted - Freek-A-Leek (Just missed the top 20... horrible!!!)
Ying Yang Twins - Salt Shaker (Didn't hear it enough to chart, but apparently, heard it too much) --------------------------------------------
And now the top 20:
20. Stereogram - Walkie Talkie Man The video is cool, but only when the volume is on mute
19. Kevin Lyttle - Turn Me On How about I turn you off? Which is pretty much what I do everytime the song comes on (every hour!) This could've actually been a decent song if somebody else was doing the singing.
18. Ludcaris - Stand Up More like SHUT UP!
17. D12 - My Band Again like with Mase, too much worshipping yourself lowers your ability to write a decent song. Should've called this "My Bad."
16. Lil' Jon - Get Low Even Afroman is calling this guy an ignorant, irritating bunch of noise! Yes, music standards are getting low... real low.
15. Beyoncé - Baby Boy This was even worse than Bug-A-Boo. The only reason why this song was a hit is because that's what happens whtn you combine 2 Flavas of the Month.
14. Chingy - One Call Away No... no... just go away.
13. Kelis - Milkshake Wtf? This song makes the list just because these are some of the stupidest lyrics I've heard in awhile (but then as you'll see later, a new champion was crowned)
12. Uncle Kracker - Drift Away Yes... *sigh* this is still around. One of the most overrated songs of the last several years still continues to be overrated.
11. Sean Paul - I'm Still in Love With You I didn't give a crap about this song the first time it came out, and I gave less of a crap about this song the 2nd time it came out.
10. Michael McDonald - Ain't No Mountain High Enough Oh hell no... One of the worst remakes in awhile! The song's preceedors should be ashamed!!!
9. Trapt - Headstrong This just got extremely annoying extremely quick.
8. Outkast - The Way You Move Overkill, overrated, and the fact that this is one of Outkast's weakest songs gets it this high.
7. Three Days Grace - (I Hate) Everything About You I hate everything about this song. Hideous sounding, and even more hideous voice!
6. JC Chasez - All Day I Dream About Sex OK where does one begin here? First of all, the lyrics are that bad. Next they make him sound like s**t, it's just unlistenable.
5. Nickelback - Someday I don't know why I let myself chart this. The only way you can make Chad Kroeger sound like a decent singer is if you stand him next to Chris Cornell. Overrated, and just extremely overplayed.
Well, we're past the musical terds! Now onto the musical diarrhea!!!
4. William Hung - She Bangs Um..... no! This is one of those jokes that just plain is not funny! It's sad!!! And the fact that there are people out there that actually wasted money on his CD is just plain sickening.
3. Usher - Yeah! NO! Absolutely by far Usher's worst "effort" to date! And when you throw in one of the most repulsive fads of 2004, Lil Jon, this just has stinkfest all over it!!!
2. J-Kwon - Tipsy Again, where does one begin... First of all, it's EVERYBODY, NOT ERRBUDY! Now I know why you dropped out of school at 15 to be a rapper! And still not old enough to vote, he's talking about going to a bar and getting drunk. More proof that it's not good to write songs while you're taking a crap. I think it's time he gets the "Jailed Rapper of the Week" Award not just for this, but just because his CD can also be declared a WMD.
And for the first time in my history of these worst charts... there is a TIE for worst song!!!
The worst songs of 2004 so far are:
1. Eamon - I Don't Want You Back and 1. Frankee - F.U.R.B.
If these two want to share a brain, they can share the top spot on the countdown. Let's start with the male version of Eamon.
#1, this song eliminates any standards that were remaining in the music world. The only reason why this song was any kind of a hit was because of the uncontrollable swearing.
#2, William Hung is Mariah Carey compared to Eamon's voice. Just a complete whinefest!!!
Now let's go to his bitch, Frankee
#1, again showing even more maturity in the music world with her just as bad rendition. What can I say? We get it, you hate your ex, now shut up!
#2, Being the supposed ex of a so-called "celebrity" doesn't give you any merit as a singer. You suck too!
What I said is both your faults, now f**k both of you, and don't ever come back!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure I'm missing a few, but if I come across them, I'll throw them into the dishonorable mentions department.
Ah... see you in December!

I dunno. Lil'Jon isn't that bad. I wouldn't buy his CD or anything and I pretty much only hear him when I go out to the club but when 'Get Low' and 'Yeah!' come on! I'm there! "Get back! We're windin' back! Lil'Jon got the beat to make yo booty go *whack*! Get back! We're windin' back! U(r)sher got the flow to make yo booty go *whack*! Get back! We're windin' back! Ludacris got the rhyme to make yo booty go *whack*! Get back! We're windin' back! Lil'Jon got the beat to make yo booty go *whack*!"
But Usher is getting too much overplay. Even here where 'Burn' is ALWAYS on and 'Confessions' is picking up where 'Yeah' is slowing down.

Britney Spears - Boom Boom
Juvenile - Slow Motion
19. Kevin Lyttle - Turn Me On
15. Beyoncé - Baby Boy
6. JC Chasez - All Day I Dream About Sex (and you missed "Some Girls..." too)
1. Frankee - F.U.R.B.

Well, other than the fact that most of your songs are from summer/fall of last year, it's fairly accurate. Headstrong first came out in late 2002, heh.
Disagree most with Stand Up! (awesome party joint), TWYM, and Someday.

Amanda Perez - I Pray really boring; probably wouldn't rank it among the worst of the year though because it's just boring and not actively annoying. C-
Britney Spears haven't heard
Fantasia Barrino - I Believe haven't heard this song and don't know whether I'd like it; I'm not crazy about her voice but she could do certain types of songs well.
Juvenile - Slow Motion haven't heard yet
Mase - Welcome Back haven't heard
Petey deleted - Freek-A-Leek only heard it once but hated it
Ying Yang Twins - Salt Shaker bad, but haven't heard in a while so I don't remember how bad
20. Stereogram - Walkie Talkie Man Horribly annoying song. D+
19. Kevin Lyttle - Turn Me On I like it. B+
18. Ludcaris - Stand Up I can tolerate it. C
17. D12 - My Band Not bad for a song with Eminem. C
16. Lil' Jon - Get Low Agree with this one, it's awful. D-
15. Beyoncé - Baby Boy This one's not awful. I don't hate it as much as I want to. C+
14. Chingy - One Call Away It dropped so quickly that I don't even remember it that well, but remember it being mediocre.
13. Kelis - Milkshake I kind of like it. B-
12. Uncle Kracker - Drift Away Why do so many people hate this song SO much? I don't have a strong opinion of it either way, but I think it's just ok. B-
11. Sean Paul - I'm Still in Love With You I kind of like this. Kind of a guilty pleasure. B
10. Michael McDonald - Ain't No Mountain High Enough B-
9. Trapt - Headstrong Not bad. B-
8. Outkast - The Way You Move It's no "Hey Ya" but there's nothing that awful about this song. It's just ok. B-
7. Three Days Grace - (I Hate) Everything About You Not great but not horrible. C
6. JC Chasez - All Day I Dream About Sex Haven't heard and don't want to.
5. Nickelback - Someday It's ok. B-
4. William Hung - She Bangs I'm not even going to give him a grade. I don't even consider him a singer, so giving this a grade is like giving my sister a grade for singing a song stuck in her head. It's just not comparable to a "real" song.
3. Usher - Yeah! Don't like it. C-
2. J-Kwon - Tipsy It's an idiotic song, sure, but fun to make fun of. C
The worst songs of 2004 so far are:
1. Eamon - I Don't Want You Back and 1. Frankee - F.U.R.B.
Really hate both. D-. I really shouldn't be so hesitant to give F's. ;)
Average: C So, basically, overall I think this list of songs is average, and most wouldn't be among my worst songs of the year (except Get Low and Eamon/Frankee, but I might not count Get Low since it was almost recurrent by the start of 2004).

20. I hate this one too. 19. I like it. 18. I hate it. 17. I liked it for a while. 16. Atleast this one is original. After Lil' Jon kept going opn with this style I got sick of him. 15. I like it, her best single. 14. I agree. 13. I liked this one for a while. 12. Terrible cover. 11. Bland! 10. Not too bad. 9. I like it, but it did get annoying. 8. Not as bad as "Hey Ya." 7. I like it. 6. Terrible. 5. Good, but overplayed and cliché. 4. Bad. 3. It was good at first. 2. It was good at first. 1. Terrible 1. A little better.

20. Stereogram - Walkie Talkie Man Who?
19. Kevin Lyttle - Turn Me On It's alright-- I'm warming up to it.
18. Ludcaris - Stand Up I agree. ANNOYING!
17. D12 - My Band It's a catchy little ditty. Some clever lines. Somewhat forgettable I guess.
16. Lil' Jon - Get Low I think this is a fair placing of the song-- it's not the absolute worst but its pretty bad.
15. Beyoncé - Baby Boy LOVE IT!
14. Chingy - One Call Away This should be much higher-- Ugh, it'll be in my top 10 worst of 2004 most likely!
13. Kelis - Milkshake LOVE IT
12. Uncle Kracker - Drift Away Like it alright.
11. Sean Paul - I'm Still in Love With You Don't care for it much
10. Michael McDonald - Ain't No Mountain High Enough Yeah, this is pretty bad.
9. Trapt - Headstrong After the millionth time I got kinda weary of it, but its still OK
8. Outkast - The Way You Move Huge burnout factor here otherwise semi-decent
7. Three Days Grace - (I Hate) Everything About You It's OK
6. JC Chasez - All Day I Dream About Sex Never heard
5. Nickelback - Someday Like it
4. William Hung - She Bangs Cute-- but can see how it could annoy someone immensely
3. Usher - Yeah! Love it!
2. J-Kwon - Tipsy Tired of it
1. Eamon - I Don't Want You Back and 1. Frankee - F.U.R.B.
Mediocre about sums it up
A lot of these songs I would call very mediocre... A lot of them don't really bother me, some do but for the most part they are "OK" and listenable in some instances. A couple of them I really like. (Baby Boy and Yeah!)

Actually, if there was a tie for #1, then there would be no #2 and everything else should be ranked a spot lower.

Actually, if there was a tie for #1, then there would be no #2 and everything else should be ranked a spot lower. Well these two can pretty much be summed up together. Now if it were Eamon and J-Kwon, then I would've gone 1-1-3-4-5, but it's basically the same crappy song.

John's 20 Worst of 2004 So Far...
Dishonorable mentions:
Amanda Perez - I Pray Such a mopey, whiney voice!
Britney Spears - Boom Boom Not familiar with this song, but from comments I've seen about it, I'm guessing I wouldn't like it at all.
Fantasia Barrino - I Believe I liked the way she performed it on AI, but I haven't heard the recorded version on the radio, where songs tend to sound different.
Juvenile - Slow Motion Don't like it from the few times I've heard it; unfortunately, the way it's moving up the charts, it's likely I'll be hearing it a lot more.
Mase - Welcome Back Heard it twice or three times; so-so
Petey deleted - Freek-A-Leek For rap, I kind of like it
Ying Yang Twins - Salt Shaker Kind of like "Get Low", so I kind of like it. --------------------------------------------
And now the top 20:
20. Stereogram - Walkie Talkie Man I think I've heard this song once or twice, and more or less liked it.
19. Kevin Lyttle - Turn Me On One of my favorite new songs. He calls this kind of music "soca", a fusion of soul and calypso, 2 of my favorite genres of music. I liked calypso a lot better than its derivative, reggae, though I liked some early reggae. Anyway, I think its a good ploy on his part, whether realistic or not, to talk about a new style of music, because that makes him the purveyor, leader, and perhaps "father" of a new kind of music, which could bode well for his place in music history if this style does become popular, which I hope it does.
18. Ludcaris - Stand Up Agreed.
17. D12 - My Band Amusing and rather enjoyable to listen to, if it's not too often.
16. Lil' Jon - Get Low New sound in rap started with this song, and I consider it the best thing to happen in a long time to one of my least favorite genres of music.
15. Beyoncé - Baby Boy I like it okay.
14. Chingy - One Call Away Best he's done so far. The best part of this song is also the worst in that the catchy melody is repeated over and over.
13. Kelis - Milkshake Okay.
12. Uncle Kracker - Drift Away Yes... *sigh* this is still around. One of the most overrated songs of the last several years still continues to be overrated. Agreed. Beats me why this was still being played even a year ago.
11. Sean Paul - I'm Still in Love With You Decent song.
10. Michael McDonald - Ain't No Mountain High Enough Hate it when somebody messes with a great classic like this. He adds nothing, although I think he has (or had) one of the best voices in music. What a waste! If you do remakes, you should do an underrated, little heard song, sing it much better than the original, and/or put enough new elements into the song to make it interesting, distinctive and worthwhile, like what Diana Ross did with this Marvin Gaye/Tammy Terrell song.
9. Trapt - Headstrong Great rock song, but popular for so long that eventually it got tiresome.
8. Outkast - The Way You Move My favorite song from them ever; never get tired of it.
7. Three Days Grace - (I Hate) Everything About You Took awhile for me to realize how great a song it is, but luckily it wouldn't die.
6. JC Chasez - All Day I Dream About Sex Totally unimpressed 1 or 2 times I heard it.
5. Nickelback - Someday So unoriginal and so overplayed for so long, though it's really a decent song.
4. William Hung - She Bangs Agreed
3. Usher - Yeah! I like it.
2. J-Kwon - Tipsy Initially hated it, but not so bad now.
1. Eamon - I Don't Want You Back and 1. Frankee - F.U.R.B. Pretty good musically; no comment about lyrics.

Soca is not at all a new kind of music. It's been around since the 1970's.

Really? I never heard of it before Lyttle started talking about it. Any well-known old songs that could be considered soca?

Really? I never heard of it before Lyttle started talking about it. Any well-known old songs that could be considered soca? Patra's cover of "Pull Up To The Bumper" was soca as were her other hits. Diana King's "Shy Guy" is soca. It was never a huge genre at American radio, but it's been a subgenre of reggae, and has been popular in Jamaican clubs for a few decades now.

[glow=red,2,300]WORST SONGS of 2004[/glow] Trapt "Headstrong" -Hearing this every 5 minutes made me actually want to go the radio station and beat up the DJ. G-Unit featuring Joe "Wanna Get To Know You" -Very weak chorus with the G-Unit. Ludacris "Splash Waterfalls" -Coming off such a HUGE hit like "Stand Up", Ludacris clearly messed up his Chicken *N* Beer with this garbage. J.C. Chasez "All Day..." -Blah, That 2nd Stupid Single. Ying Yang Twins "Salt Shaker" -"Shawtie Crunk, On Da Floor Wide Open, Skeet So Much..." SHUT UP! This was THEE worst song stuck in my head this year! YoungBLoodZ "Damn!" -Stupid, repetitive garbage New Found Glory "All Downhill from Here" -Jesus, are there any GOOD rock songs besides Maroon5 ones? Jadakiss featuring Anthony Hamilton "Why" -"Why did Bush knock the towers down?", More like why is Jadakiss so ignorant and stupid to pose such a questions? Liberal. and possibly thee worst song this Year... NELLY "Flap Your Wings" ??? why'd u hafta mess ur career up nelly? why???
