That's the very song I'm looking for!
6) This song is by a famous sax player featuring a somewhat less famous R&B singer.
5) This song hit #1 during a rather weak period of time, which is how it did so well despite the fact that I like many of the other songs below it better. The song, by a female singer, is a rather boring follow-up to an enormous Pop and AC song from earlier in 2002 (this one is from the late summer and on the CHR/Pop chart, it spent a month in the Top Ten)
4) CS: This is the highest ranked Christian song on my chart this year. Like "You'll Never Thirst", we had a little trouble guessing this one on the 2001 chart, since it's rather obscure. It was my first #1 song of 2002 and has the same title as a Suzy Bogguss song from the early 1990s.
GOOD LUCK!!

6. I'm guessing it's Kenny G. Other than that, I don't know. 5. Since you mentioned "A Thousand Miles" was the first of two songs she had in the top 10, I'll guess #5 is: Vanessa Carlton - Ordinary Day.

Number six is indeed "Ordinary Day".
However, number five was not "Careless Whisper". For the record, I cannot stand that song, by George Michael or anyone (brings back too many bad memories :()
Additional clues:
5) Cerebro was right when he guessed Kenny G. The title of the song is the same as one of my Top Ten hits of 2001.
4) Jeffster would know this song, since he said that it went to #1 on his personal chart as well. I sure hope he sees this and chimes in.

That's right.
4) This song has the same title as a Suzy Bogguss song that hit the country charts (and I believe was released to a few AC stations as well) in late 1992. The first name of the artist is the same as that of someone that Prince saw in a hotel lobby reading a magazine.

Yes, Aaron, but I figured it would be TMI to put on this board (for those wondering, do a Google Search of lyrics to "Darling Nikki" by Prince).
Now for the conclusion of this guessing game:
3) This song also hit #1 during a relatively weak period, so it registered much higher on the year-end chart than it would have otherwise. The song is by a man who was all over the Pop and AC charts in the late 80s and especially early 90s, but by 2002, he had pretty much fizzled out, though this song did rather well at AC radio, taking the biggest jump on AT20 AC of the entire year.
2) Of all formats, I think this song fared best at Urban AC. It's by an R&B singer who almost died last year.
1) Definitely one of the most disappointing chart songs of the entire year. The fact that it wasn't played to death is what helped it hit #1 on my weekly charts, as well as for the whole year.
GOOD LUCK!!

3) I could only think of Phil Collins - Can't Stop Loving You, but that was guessed already I think. And I can't think of another Phil Collins song in 2002...
2) Luther Vandross - Take Me Out?
1) Ummm... yeah! ;)

The reason I posted such a weak clue is that I figured that several people here already knew what my #1 song of 2002 was. I did, however, forget to post part of the clue that I meant to. It was from the early part of the year and it looked promising on the AC chart at first, with a huge jump its second week, but then it seemed to tank fast.
Number three was not by Phil Collins. The singer has a much wider vocal range than him.
Number two was indeed by Luther Vandross, but it wasn't "Take Me Out" or "Dance With My Father" (the latter wasn't even out yet in 2002 - as far as I know, it probably wasn't even recorded yet.)
If my additional clues for the #1 song aren't ample enough, I'll post easier ones later.
GOOD LUCK!!

Those are both right.
A final clue on the Luther Vandross song: he prefers to weather out a storm with his woman than to be safe and warm all alone.

That is it! Aaron guesses the remaining song correctly and that brings the Top 100 of 2002 guessing game to an end. But never fear; later on this fall, I plan to start up my next guessing game: The Top 100 of 2003. Lots of Christian songs on that one, so Jeffster and JCMF3 should be instrumental in figuring those out. Thanks again to everyone for playing along.

Insatiable was your number one song of 2002? I hope you sought professional help after that.

Insatiable was your number one song of 2002?Β I hope you sought professional help after that.Β This coming from someone who likes "the end" of "The End" by Matthew West! ;) But seriously, as I said several times throughout the game, much of 2002 was a rather weak period of time. There just wasn't very much good music out during the year. I have a feeling that the charts would have been a little different had Pulse FM stayed on the air, but without being able to listen to it as often as I did in 2001, the charts would have contained more Christian songs and I'm sure one or two of them would have gone to #1. Had that happened, songs like "Only A Woman Like You" and "Ordinary Day" might not have gone to #1, and maybe "Insatiable" wouldn't have spent as long on top as it did (since I truly did like that song). 2003 proved to be a little more meaningful as far as music was concerned. That is, in the AC and Christian department - the CHR/Pop format has basically sucked for most, if not all, of the 21st century so far, with (c)rap and hip-hop music. Some of it's OK, but for the most part, AC and Christian is much better. Anyway, I'll get to work on compiling the Top 100 of 2003 soon.
