This week when I was making the new chart, I realized that one of the songs on the chart has probably one of the strangest runs in the history of Luke Sounds. It's fallen off once, re-entered, and then has moved up and down and all over for the past few months.
Mr. Brightside - The Killers Entering September 29th, 2004 18-16-14-14-OFF
Re-entering December 22nd, 2004 17-09-05-04-04-03-05-06-08-09-12-15-18-17-16-13-14-19-18-16-14-08-02-02-05-08-08-09-19-14-12-07-06-05-02-02-02
And still going...
Anyone have another other charting anomolies to share?

Actually, yeah. Many of the songs on my chart move and drop off at crazy rates; for example, it isn't rare for a number one song from last week to not appear this week at all on my chart.
"Holiday" (Green Day) has had the weirdest movement of any song this year, debuting at #5. Here are its movements:
[5-4-8-11-X-7-X-16-X-6-X-7-X-16-X-8-X-6-X-X-X-X-X-X-retirement]
The first 4 charts had the normal debut, rise, drop, drop phenomenom (something common in my chart), but then just dropped completely off the 5th chart. On the 6th, it reappeared, pretty high, then disappeared once more. This happened some 11 more times, before it eventually just slipped off and retired after 6 chart absences.

Achievements • Greatest gainer on two weeks. • Spent only two weeks in the top 10; both of them at #3. • After jump 35-3 in the 5th week, falls off in 6 weeks after that. • I burned out a song like this and then it become popular and pratically appeared at #1 on every chart; especially unusual for a previously releatively unknown act.

Queens of the Stone Age - Little Sister:
8-13-off
Okay, it's not that bizarre, but I was really expecting a longer run for it.

Anyone have another other charting anomolies to share? I've had an odd run with the same song, but since I don't have my personal charts accessable at the moment, I can't post it... >:(

Peak positions in boldface. "Valleys" in italics. Chart feats in red.
Dogs Die In Hot Cars - I Love You 'Cause I Have To Debuted: October 1, 2004 Weeks: 28 Peak: #49
88 • 88 • 97 • 100 • x • x • x • x • 98 • 80 • 74 • 75 • 90 • 93 • 85 • 87 • 81 • 72 • 62 • 56 • 49 • 49 • 51 • 50 • 50 • 49 • 50 • 55 • 65 • 88 • 90 • 91
Spent the most weeks in the top 100 before making the top 50 (its 17th chart week and its 21st week after debuting). First heard on either July 31 or August 1, 2004, and made the top 50 on February 18, 2005. Spent the most weeks in the top 50 for a song that peaked at #49 or lower (6 weeks: 49-49-off-50-50-49-50-off).
Switchfoot - Dare You to Move Debuted: March 5, 2004 Weeks: 44 Peak: #1 (7)
15 • 10 • 7 • 4 • 2 • 1 • 1 • 1 • 1 • 3 • 5 • 7 • 6 • 4 • 3 • 1 • 1 • 1 • 2 • 3 • 7 • 14 • 14 • 18 • 18 • 20 • 20 • 25 • 31 • 34 • 31 • 36 • 41 • 38 • 41 • 45 • 52 • 61 • 71 • 75 • 81 • 91 • 94 • 96
Farthest drop from #1 (6 spots) by a song that returned to #1. Spent 19 weeks in the top 7, hitting all 7 top positions along the way: #1 (7), #2 (2), #3 (3), #4 (2), #5 (1), #6 (1), #7 (3).
Breaking Benjamin - So Cold Debuted: May 7, 2004 Weeks: 41 Peak: #1 (4)
97 • 96 • 95 • 95 • 89 • 88 • 86 • 70 • 60 • 51 • 42 • 37 • 25 • 17 • 12 • 9 • 8 • 4 • 2 • 2 • 1 • 1 • 1 • 1 • 4 • 6 • 9 • 11 • 16 • 23 • 28 • 34 • 40 • 46 • 52 • 60 • 71 • 80 • 84 • 92 • 93
The only #1 song in the top 100 era (January 2004 - present) to debut below #80, it spent 7 weeks below that position. Hit the top 50 in its 11th week in the top 100; hit #1 in its 11th week in the top 50; fell off the top 50 in its 11th week after falling from #1.
White Stripes - I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself Debuted: January 16, 2004 Weeks: 12 Peak: #37
83 • 60 • 52 • 47 • 41 • 41 • 38 • 37 • 41 • 43 • 46 • 58
Fell off the top 100 from #58, the highest position ever for a song's last week in the top 100.
Morrissey - Irish Blood, English Heart Debuted: April 23, 2004 Weeks: 6 Peak: #62
99 • 97 • x • 83 • 73 • 69 • 62
Has the highest peak of a song that fell off the chart from its peak (#62).
Ying Yang Twins - Salt Shaker Debuted: January 16, 2004 Weeks: 21 Peak: #32
92 • 75 • 51 • 44 • 40 • 38 • 32 • 35 • 40 • 35 • 32 • 35 • 35 • 43 • 58 • 75 • x • x • x • x • 76 • 77 • 69 • 76 • 94
Over the span of two weeks, fell 8 spots with a bullet, and rebounded to tie its previous peak.
OutKast f/Sleepy Brown - The Way You Move Debuted: October 3, 2003 (top 50 era) Weeks: 31 (28 in top 50) Peak: #1 (1)

These three are probably the most bizarre:
Our Lady Peace - Somewhere Out There 19-17-14-13-13-11-11-10-10-11-10-10-11-10-10-10-8-11-14-19-off
Spent two months stuck in the middle of the chart before peaking at #8 and falling off four weeks after that.
Lifehouse - Spin 17-17-14-13-13-16-15-17-20-18-off
I think this one speaks for itself.
Switchfoot - Meant to Live 19-17-15-10-8-7-5-1-2-3-3-4-6-6-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-3-3-6-10-16-off
The success story of 2004. I'm not sure why I had it jump 5-1 the first time around, but it only lasted one week there before trickling down as far as #6 and then rebounding to #1 in short order and logging seven more weeks there. (I had it fall slowly in anticipation of a turnaround, but little did I know the future magnitude of said rebound.) Its point total of 452 is the highest recorded since I re-launched my chart as a Top 20 in 2002.[/font]

Just a quick comment about my first post in this topic...
"Mr. Brightside," in its 37th week is in the middle of its 5th ascent up the chart. If it cracks the top 5 next week, that will be its 3rd entry there. Another interesting point to note is that "Brightside" has been on the chart at the same time as all three of The Killers' other singles released from "Hot Fuss." The only other song to have a run this bizarre was Sarah McLachlan's "Adia" in 1998, which ended up hitting #1 after it had already been on the chart for 30 weeks. I'll post her run soon when I feel like sifting through the hard copies of the years' charts not yet online.

Like a month ago, "Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls made it to #9 and dropped as quickly as it entered.
Just now, since its so popular... I am starting to like it again and it looks like it will enter this week above its previous peak at #9!

Khia's "My Neck My Back" was really popular for a very short time. It debuted on my chart in July 2002 and ran like this:
70-20-14-20-70-off
Also, Len's "Steal My Sunshine" debuted on 7/31/99 and ran like this:
68-34-34-34-34-17-17-17-17-12-12-12-12-12-11-11-11-11-36-36-36-36-92-off
One week in July at #68, all weeks in August at #34, all weeks in September at #17, all weeks in October at #12, all weeks in November at #11, all weeks in December at #36, and one week in January at #92.

I've had several including OLP's "Somewhere Out There" and Finger Eleven's "One Thing" that didn't peak high but lasted long and had many moves up and down.
Here is a recent example:
Destiny's Child "Girl": 39 - 36 - 39 - 37 - 38 - 38 - 36 - 35 - 36 - 35 (latest chart)
On my upcoming chart they will have spent 10 weeks on but only peaking at #35.

Smashed Straylight Run's record for most weeks in the top 100 without a peak in the top 50 ("Existentialism On Prom Night" spent 26 weeks on). Its two weeks at #56 were spent 38 weeks apart.

Bacilos (the Latin group whom I'm still charting at the moment) have had even weirder chart movements than my previous post of "Holiday":
[49*-3-44-¿OFF?]
They are likely to drop off next week, but in this 3-week lifetime, that's a really weird way to enter and leave.

Like a month ago, "Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls made it to #9 and dropped as quickly as it entered. Just now, since its so popular... I am starting to like it again and it looks like it will enter this week above its previous peak at #9! Oddly enough, the same thing happened with "Stickwitu." It stayed on the chart for 4 weeks and peaked at #11. Nine weeks after it fell off the chart, the song re-entered at #1 because I started loving it again.

Ha Ha here's my weird ones
Trina F/ Kelly Rowland: "Here We Go" 10-04-03-02-01-01-01-20-40-49-20-01-01-01-20-0ff
Mary J. Blige- "Be Without You" 24-24-24-24-24-12-7-7-7-off
Madonna-"Hung Up" 02-01-03-04-05-10-14-17-23-34-40-40-40-40-40-40-40-40-40-40
I think Trina is the weirdest because it was 2 months after the song peaked on every format and then out of nowhere it became my huge personal favorite for like 3 weeks longer.
The Madonna is also a weird run because she's spent 10 weeks @ #40 and only 1 week @ #1.
I think Nick Lachey's current run is also weird:
Nick Lachey-"What's Left of Me" 38-8-1-1-1-1-1
Personally, I think he has about another 5 or 6 weeks before he falls out the top, but I don't know. I'm obsessed with this song!

Most of mine are because of the formula change. However, I did find one that is just extremely odd and was not because of the formula change: Demi Lovato - Give Your Heart a Break 16-14-16-14-11-13-15-14-13-15-13-15-14-15-17 In its first 14 weeks of existence, it never charted lower than 16 and never higher than 11. Then there's also Alex Clare's "Too Close," which crashed one week only to spike the next: 27-24-14-18-28-18 And "So Good" by B.o.B: 23-20-16-12 (new formula)-19-17-20-18-13

I'm sure I've had lots of strange runs over the years. These are two that I can recall that fell off the chart and came back.
Cee-Lo - F**k You debuted 8/28/10 at #10, fell off for one week on 11/13/10
10-3-1-1-1-1-1-2-3-6-6-X-8-9-5-9
Beyonce - Hey Goldmember (yes, really!) debuted at #4 on 8/3/02, fell off on 9/14/02 for 4 weeks, and then came back in again at #4 on 10/12/02
4-4-5-4-6-9-X-X-X-X-4-4-6-7-7
And one last strange run that coems to mind - Viva La Vida by Coldplay stayed 20 weeks in my top 10 chart and never moved higher than #7 or lower than #8. It debuted 7/26/08 and fell off 12/13/08.

Too may. One of my favorites:
Pieces - Sum 41 Reached #2 in 2007, during it's first chart run. Spent 37 weeks on my chart. [...] Returned to my chart in March, 2012 reached #4, and fell like 20 places every week, before falling off completely.
Man Down - Rihanna Two weeks at #1, but those are 16 weeks apart: 18 June, and 1 October. Spent all but two of those in the top 10, and stayed there two more weeks after it's second peak. Spent a total of 18 weeks in the top 10 after it's debut at #10 and ranks 3rd in 2011. Thanks to it's long run, reached #4 on the year-end chart. There are some huge song lower: Born This Way (5 week #1), Rolling In The Deep (4 week #1), Moves Like Jagger (4 week #1), Pumped Up Kicks (4 week #1).
Where Have You Been - Rihanna Reached #3 in December, 2011 as an album track, then fell to the lower half of chart. Started to rack up in January, but didn't go higher than #40. In May 5, 2012 jumped from #34 to #1 with the second biggest gain ever and stayed there for four weeks. Stayed in top 10 for 10 weeks (including the 2011 debut). It's at #79 now in the 38th week. I don't expect it to stay on for over 45 weeks.

Kimbra's "Settle Down" has had somewhat of an eventful (yet not very successful) run: 48 42 o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o 30 21 16 15 17 20 22 34 o o 47 o o 49
Adele's "Rumour Has It" had three fairly lengthy runs on the chart (though the first drop-off was kind of a one-week fluke): 6 6 6 13 13 16 9 10 14 19 22 17 17 18 17 21 23 19 21 22 30 41 44 46 45 o 41 38 39 35 41 42 38 38 45 o o o o o 49 o 45 13 12 13 11 12 14 14 18 25 32 50
"Set Fire To The Rain" nearly dipped out of the top fifty after debuting at #2, then rebounded upon becoming the third single, then fell off the chart from #24. 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 3 3 3 3 5 8 10 15 17 22 20 20 21 27 31 35 38 39 41 47 47 42 20 16 11 10 7 7 7 7 4 4 4 4 5 9 10 11 14 17 18 24
At the beginning of 2012, it looked like "Hold On" by Alabama Shakes wouldn't even make it to the top forty; it later re-entered and hit #1 for four weeks. 49 o 42 48 o o o o o o o o o 25 10 6 2 2 2 1 1 1 1 5 7 7 10

Bizarre chart runs have always been the norm on my chart. Songs that have the MOST bizarre runs initially appeared as non-singles and reappeared several times. They ended up becoming singles in the middle of their runs. Their singles status result in a longer and stable trajectory in their last run. Here are some examples:
Mary Mary featuring Kierra Sheard - God In Me Debut: November 29, 2008 Re-entry #1: March 21, 2009 Re-entry #2: August 29, 2009 Total Weeks: 49

David Guetta featuring Kid Cudi - Memories Debut: December 5, 2009 Re-entry #1: March 27, 2010 Re-entry #2: October 2, 2010 Total weeks: 35

J. Cole featuring Missy Elliott - Nobody's Perfect Debut: October 18, 2011 Re-entry #1: November 26, 2011 Re-entry #2: June 9, 2012 Total Weeks: 37
18-18-26-OFF-32-22-22-22-20-19-18-16-15-15-15-12-3-2-2-4-6-7-5-6-7-8-21-30-OFF-32-28-27-18-20-22-22-27-25-30
I do not have the trajectories for the following songs. :'( I remember the first song's run very well.
Mario - Crying Out For Me Debut: December 23, 2006 | Peak: #29 | 1 week Re-Entry #1: January 20, 2007 | Peak: #7 | 10 weeks Re-Entry #2: September 22, 2007 | Peak: #15 | 9 weeks Re-Entry #3: January 6, 2008 | Peak: #1 (12 weeks) | 28 weeks (20 in the Top 3) Total Weeks: 47
Lloyd featuring Lil' Wayne - You First Run: June to July 2006. Originally entitled "I Want You" featuring Atlanta rapper Tango Redd. Lil' Wayne appeared on the alternate single version. Peaked at #7. Second Run: August 2006 to November 2006. Peaked at #4. Third Run: January 2007 to June 2007. The remix, which featured Nas and Andre 3000, pushed the song to #1 where it stayed for 5 weeks. Total Weeks: 41
Justin Timberlake (with Beyonce) - Until The End Of Time First Run: February 2007. Lower 20s. Second Run: May 2007. Top 20ish. Third Run: June/July 2007 - February 2008. The duet version, which featured Beyonce, pushed the song to #1 in late October. It peaked at #2 in January 2008. Total Weeks: 42

Out of 16 weeks of charting, one comes to mind:
