I love them. I just heard the acoustic version of All You Wanted and it reminded me of how I fell in love with Michelle Branch all over again... :'( I usually download these off Kazaa, but I think they should appear on CDs. Stripped-down versions of songs lose all the production effort, but they showcase the performer's voice and emphasize the strength of lyrics a lot more to more than make up for it. Has any artist released an entirely acoustic CD before? Perhaps Saturday Night Live or some other shows with regular musical guests might want to release compilations of such songs.

The acoustic version of Foo Fighters' "Times Like These" have it a whole second life with me... and a longer and stronger one than the first time around, at that.

Has any artist released an entirely acoustic CD before? Back in the '90s, several artists (including Mariah Carey, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, and Nirvana) released acoustic albums based on their appearances on "MTV Unplugged". Now there's a show that I wish was still a regular part of the channel's lineup.

Now there's a show that I wish was still a regular part of the channel's lineup. "Unplugged" was revived on MTV2 in 2001, but I don't think they've recorded an episode in over a year. The only new episodes they produced were R.E.M., Staind, Jay-Z, and Dashboard Confessional, and I think Jay-Z and Dashboard released albums from them. I thought I saw them promoting an Incubus "Unplugged", but it was never aired. But if an episode was recorded, I'd love to get my hands on a copy. My Hot AC station plays a really cool acoustic version of "Disease" by Matchbox Twenty.

How did I forget about that? :o When Mariah released her MTV Unplugged, critics who claimed she was just another studio artist were finally silenced. Or so I read. There's also Grammy's Greatest Moments that ran for several volumes - collections of amazing live performances at the Grammy awards. Most aren't acoustic however. I'm reminded of Vanessa Williams' poignant rendition of her song (that won a Grammy (I think)) while pregnant at the Grammys.

I love acoustic versions as well.
My fave this year is Delta Goodrem's "Lost Without You", it's even more beautiful than the original.

Are you sure it was an Unplugged episode and not the Morning View Sessions special? That was basically the same as an Unplugged setup. You can buy it on DVD, and the When Incubus Attacks Vol. 2 DVD has a few acoustic performances.

This reminds me of Alejandro Sanz's "Unplugged" album. You know what? That album is fabulous! I love listening to acoustic versions of songs because they complete strip down all of the computerization and enhancements that you often hear on ordinary albums.

ManΓ‘ Unplugged is pretty phenomenal. So is the Shakira one.
I second whoever said that MTV should bring back this series. One of their best "music-related" ventures they've ever produced.
Not to mention is a great publicity tool for artists.... oh well. They'd rather spend on Spring Break specials and shows like "Dismissed," and not on something like this.
Peace out, Andree

Even though I like acoustic versions of songs I usually prefer the original except the Foo Fighters' "Times Like These".
Others: Take Me Away-Lifehouse (Hot AC station played it lots here) How You Remind Me-Nickelback (good) Everything You Want-Vertical Horizon (not as good) Hemorrhage-Fuel (doesn't sound a whole lot different than the original)
I also really liked several of Nirvana's songs.

I also like the acoustic version of Evanescence's "Going Under."

The acoustic to Nickelback's 'Someday' is better.
Chantal Kreviazuk has some acoustic tracks... not studio recorded.. except for 'Surrounded' which was on the 'Surrounded' CD single.

The acoustic version of Debbie Gibson's "We Could Be Together" (or "Campfire Mix" as it was called on the CD) doesn't hold a candle to the original version.
Also, there's an acoustic version of "No More Rhyme" on the CD, but I've never heard that one, as I only have the tape. How I know about how the "Campfire Mix" of WCBT is because that was the flipside of "Electric Youth"(?) and it was on a jukebox in a video arcade. I selected the song and was disappointed in how inferior it was to the original version.

Many may not be familiar with this song, but it's amazing. It's "I Want You" by Madonna & Massive Attack. This track was included on the Something To Remember CD. There is an orchestral mix of the track at the end of the album, and that song is just amazing! It would have worked better on the Ray Of Light.

I really love the acoustic version of Craig David's Hidden Agenda. I heard it on that MTV Safari special he did about three years ago. He sounded amazing and the song flowed even better than it did on the original.
Also, India Arie kills it when she performs Ready For Love live.

Maroon 5 has a really good acoustic EP out.
Y100 used to play an acoustic version of Lifehouse's "Hanging By A Moment" which was nice. Also one of Switchfoot's "Dare You To Move" which wasn't quite as good.
Although it's not exactly "acoustic" per se, I like the Bonus Remix of Britney Spears' "Born To Make you Happy" with a more guitar-pop sound. And Kelly Clarkson has some really good acoustic performances up on VH1's website - "Because Of You" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes" are especially good.
I like all kinds of remixes and acoustic versions most of the time, because they give a song a new vibe. Sometimes they can be better than the original.
