Just curious to hear what your opinions are on both the best and worst videos of 2003!
Here are mine:
*************The Best*************
#1: Johnny Cash: Hurt (One of the best covers in recent years, but moreover in this video both Johnny and the director give excellent performances, adding an emotional depth that is incredibly haunting and eerie yet beautiful) #2: Dixie Chicks: Top Of The World (Too bad radio is still reluctant to play them since March. This could have been an epic hit, and even with no airplay, this video sticks out as one to forever remember among true Dixie Chicks fans.) #3: Coldplay: The Scientist (Already in a young career, Coldplay have already filmed two incredible classic videos ("Trouble" is the other). Brilliant directing and Chris Martin sure knows how to go back to the start!) #4: Red Hot Chili Peppers: Can't Stop (No video made me laugh more than this one in 2003. Humorous and creative clip show of a video, with many dimentions and symbolic values) #5: matchbox twenty: Bright Lights (incredible live performance. Rarely does a live video get my attention, but this is worth watching)
Honorable Mentions:
#6: Dave Matthews: Gravedigger: (Incredible imagery and direction true to the songs dark nature.) #7: Black Eyed Peas: Where Is The Love?: (Excellent melodramatic video concept.)
************The Worst***********
#1: Jennifer Lopez: I'm Glad (total rip-off of "Flashdance". No wonder she's getting sued for it now.) #2: John Mayer: Bigger Than My Body (John Mayer has yet to make a creative video. Completely dull and unimaginative) #3: Sugar Ray: Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy): (Disgusting. Even worse than "When It's Over". With quite a bit of profanity for a non-rap song and women licking ice cream off their arms and elbows, what is this?) #4: Jennifer Lopez: Baby I Love U: (Yep...J LO again. Nothing but her, the white background, and clips from Gigli, the biggest Hollywood failure of 2003. Who knew any of J Lo's video could be bland?) #5: Madonna: American Life: (Spineless.....as another diva told her.)
Dishonorable Mention:
#6: Santana: Why Don't You & I?: (video concept just doesn't match the song. Doesn't get anywhere. No wonder VH1 ignored it for a while)
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Honestly the videos of the past year just haven't been that memorable for me.
Maybe someone else will mention something that jogs my memory, but right now nothing comes to mind.
How sad.

I also think that music videos today just pale in comparison to what was being made ten or so years ago. Very little originality. I would say pretty much any non Missy Elliot/Busta Rhymes/Eminem rap video would qualify as the worst of the year.
That being said, Coldplay's "The Scientist", Toby Keith/Willie Nelson's "Beer for My Horses", and Outkast's "Hey Ya" are the three that come to mind as my favorites this year.

I saw some really good video this year, starting with Jewel's Intuition which is simply fantastic. I really like Evanescence's Going Under and White Stripe's Seven Nation Army also. Christina's Fighter was good. Jason Mraz's You and I both rocked too.
1- Jewel - Intuition 2- White Stripes - Seven Nation Army 3- Jason Mraz - You an I both 4- Evanescence - Going Under 5- Christina - Fighter / Beyonce's - Crazy In Love
I'm sure there are better videos, but I cant' remember of others...
The worst:
1- Metallica - Frantic 2- Linkin Park - Somewher I belong 3- Christina - Can't Hold Us Down 4- Santana - Why Don't You and I 5- Melanie C - On The Horizon
I really can't remember a lot of video, lol...

Top 5 Best: 1. Jewel - Intuition - This was an all around great video. First of all, it took an idea that no one has ever done before. I loved how it was home-video style and all of a sudden everything would transform into the star life. It was funny, colorful, and really grabbed your attention.
2. Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Can't Stop - This was a really creative and colorful video, and as Noah said, had a lot of hidden meanings too.
3. Jewel - Stand - "The Best Video That Was Never Seen" :O This video was perfect in every way. The way Jewel managed to tell the story of the lyrics without being too cliche was probably hard to accomplish, but she did it. The color schemes and irredescent glow of the video were also great. And you really did notice something new each time you watched the video.
4. Britney Spears feat. Madonna - Me Against the Music - I love this video. There's a lot going on, which usually turns me off, but this time just makes it more interesting. I love all the different scenes, the dancing is cool, the way Britney and Madonna never actually meet, etc. I also love the colors of the video. It also doesn't hurt that Britney looks so hot in this
5. Matchbox 20 - Unwell - This video is perfect for the song. I love all the different "hallucinations" and stuff that Rob Thomas sees everywhere.
Honorable mentions: Liz Phair - Why Can't I? - I love the jukebox and vintage kareoke concept of the video. Really something different...
TLC - Damaged - This video was released too long after the song already peaked at radio, so it was hardly seen. However, it told a nice story and T-Boz and Chilli looked great. I also thought the puzzle-piece effect was a great touch.
The Worst Videos 1. Christina Aguilera - Can't Hold Us Down - When I think of bad videos... 2. Jennifer Lopez - I'm Glad - I couldn't race to my remote control fast enough whenever this came on. 3. Jennifer Lopz - Baby I Love You - See coment for "I'm Glad" 4. Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body - Close-ups of Justin with a disco backdrop. No thanks, I'll pass. 5. John Mayer - Bigger Than My Body - yawn

There were barely any good video's this year. Nothing special.
I liked Beyonce "Crazy In Love" because she looks good in it....
umm...??
The best video was definately Metallica's "St Anger". It feels old-school to me, witht he prison and performance. Very cool. Nothing else was all that good this year, I can't remember..?

5- Melanie C - On The Horizon Many Mel C fans hated that one. I'm no longer a big fan, but I kind of enjoyed it.. it was fun and very happy! Very positive! :) Some of the best I've seen: - Willa Ford feat/ May, "A Toast To Men": Generally, this is a crazy/sexy/cool video that captures the essence of the song. Pure slapstick fun! - Nikki Webster, "Dancing In The Street": I don't care how much Sean denies it, but Nikki should have all of Australians taking a cold shower after watching her "swingin', swingin', the record's playing" in this great summer video. - Amanda Latona, "Do You Still" (promo video): You can almost feel Amanda looking back on past love. Even though she didn't write the song, it's like you feel she understands who wrote it. If I watched "DYS" without knowing who wrote it, I would've thought Amanda wrote it at Starbucks one night after breaking up with her bf! - Gareth Gates, "Say It Isn't So": The fansite that wrote his album for 11.99 pounds was "CHEEP" also states Gareth looks back on old love and CRIES in the video! :'( I have watched it twice and cannot seem to find any tears except for Gareth looking uncomfortable conforming back to his clean cut image! Zut alors! - Rachel Stevens, "Sweet Dreams (My LA Ex)": Wow, a video without a story (at least, I can't find it) except for showing off Rachel's sexy moves. I can't complain because it works; I can't keep my eyes off Rachel and all her female dancers tying her up in satin ribbon bondage or whatever. - Alizee, "A contre-courant": It has some gymnast in it or something. Nice colors, nice feel. - PLAY, "I Must Not Chase The Boys"/"Whole Again"; Hilary Duff, "Why Not"/"So Yesterday"; Rose Falcon, "Up, Up, Up": Fun teeny music videos. It makes you feel happy. In "I Must Not.." and "So Yesterday," the girls show a bit of sexiness, but they're still innocent and cute! - Lucy Woodward, "Trouble With Me": I didn't like the "Dumb Girls" video too much, but this one is very glam and 80s . Proves you don't need a big budget to make a great video. - Mandy Moore, "Have A Little Faith In Me": Looks like a painting. - Jewel, "Intuition": I like this one. These are some of the worst: - Kelly Clarkson, "Low"/"The Trouble With Love Is"; Clay Aiken, "Invisible": Freaking get a big budget and make a music video that has a concept... or at least is interesting. "Low" has a concept, but it's so sketchy, doesn't count for me. - Chantal Kreviazuk, "Time": I like this one but she is just too sexy! C'mon, cover up your legs... there are children who shop at Macy's too! - Gareth Gates, "Sunshine": Overly sexual like Chantal's. Not in the fun way either.

[glow=green,2,300]BEST[/glow] 1. "Pass That Dutch," Missy Elliot 2. "Fighter," Christina Aguilera 3. "Stand," Jewel 4. "(There's Gotta Be) More To Life," Stacie Orrico 5. "Cry Me A River," Justin Timberlake
******************************
[glow=red,2,300]WORST[/glow] 1. "Baby I Love U!," Jennifer Lopez 2. "Hey Ya," Outkast 3. "American Life," Madonna 4. "Feel Good Time," Pink 5. "Bright Lights," Matchbox Twenty
******************************
Commentary Missy's recent release of "Pass That Dutch" grew on me quickly. The 1-minute heartfelt intro is one reason, others include that all of her videos are amazing! Andre from Outkast completely ruined a good song IMO, by the video for "Hey Ya". Love the song, but the video is awful...its weird and ugly. "Bright Lights" is just them live....eh. "Fighter" was an awesome video and I completely thought it would be exactly what it was before it was release. As for "Stand," well everyone knows what a tragedy that was...

Top 5 Best Videos Of The Year 1: Christina Aguilera - Fighter I just loved the whole vibe of this video. The dark and brooding background went perfect with the song . It almost reminded me of a very tame Manson video 2: Dixie Chicks - Top Of The World This video is amazing. I just wish this song would've caught on it is among there best singles ever , along side "Travelin Solider". 3: Korn - Did My Time I was all over this video when it came out. I just love it. 4: Busta Rhymes / Mariah Carey / Flipmode Squad - I Know What You Want This video intrigued me because of the whole premise of the story line. I love that house that the video is shot in and Mariah is soo hot in this video. 5: Sean Paul - Get Busy I really don't like this song that much but I love the little kid dancing and the old grouchy man upstairs. Plus I love Sean Paul's cornrows. TOP 5 Worst Videos Of The Year 1: Pink - Feel Good Time Yuck cubed !!!!!!!! 2: J Lo - I'm Glad I don't mind the song but the whole "Flashdance" rip off was really lame. 3: Madonna - Hollywood Speaking of yuck when Madonna was dancing on the tv I wanted to run to my toilet and release my lunch. 4: Matchbox Twenty - Unwell Great song but the video is just stupid. 5: 50 Cent - P.I.M.P. Stupid song stupid video simple as that.

Kind of random, but did "Magic Stick" ever have a video? I never saw or heard of one for it.

There was no video for "Magic Stick" because, plain and simple, 50 and Kim don't get along.

... then why did they do a song together? ??? From what I understand, they didn't like each other (because 50 talked shit about Kim) and then they got over it and recorded the song, and then he pissed her off again and they didn't make a video...
but I could be wrong.

From what I understand, they didn't like each other (because 50 talked s**t about Kim) and then they got over it and recorded the song, and then he pissed her off again and they didn't make a video...
but I could be wrong. Yes, that's true. "Magic Stick" was also originally meant for 50 Cent's album and he was going to record it with Trina. Trina didn't have the time, so he recorded it with Kim and let her use it for her album. Then 50 went around talking all kinds of crap about Kim and made a lot of comments about how Trina should have done the song because Kim ruined it. He even went as far as to later record a version with Trina. He said he was going to release it after "P.I.M.P.," but that I doubt that will happen.

There was no video for "Magic Stick" because, plain and simple, 50 and Kim don't get along. Now that you say that, im surprised it did so well on Pop w/o a video. Yea, if Trina did it, it wuda kinda sucked.

Ugh! If Trina did the song I probably wouldn't like it. I would've hated it then as well. As much as I HATE 50 Cent, I liked this song because it had a vibe that reminded me of Lil' Kims Hard Core CD. As it is, I would have liked it much better if 50 Cent was replaced by Jay-Z or Nas... but if Trina were on it, it would just suck.

Best Videos:
Hey Ya, OutKast - Awesome, awesome video...One of the most original, all around best videos I've ever seen...
Thugz Mansion (Acoustic), 2Pac ft. Nas - This is what music videos should be...A true work of art...Probably the best video of the year, period...
Move Your Feet, Junior Senior - I'm not a fan of the song, but I loved the video...Hysterically funny and unlike anything else on MTV (or more often, MTV2)...
The Scientist, Coldplay - They make great music and even better videos to go along with the songs...Just amazing...I love the concept...
21 Questions, 50 Cent ft. Nate Dogg - Yeah, In Da Club was the better song, but 21 Questions was the better video...This one had a great story that really fit the song perfectly and was fun to watch...
I Can, Nas - Inspiration at it's finest...Nice touch with all of the children...Perfect for this song...
Cry My A River, Justin Timberlake - Excellent video, again telling a great story in a visually stunning way...
Beautiful, Christina Aguilera - Perfect for the song...It was a truly beautiful video...
I Know What You Want, Busta Rhymes ft. Mariah Carey - Again, it tells a story in an interesting way, and is immensly entertaining...Great stuff...
Worst Videos:
Crazy In Love, Beyonce ft. Jay-Z - Don't get me wrong, I like the song, and the car blowing up is pretty cool...But otherwise, this video is a mess...It's basically just Beyonce rolling around, and then Jay-Z raps some, and then a car explodes for no apparent reason, and then some more dancing, and it's over...Yawn...
Rock Your Body, Justin Timberlake - Um, yeah...again, cool effects but no story or anything even remotely giving reason to what's going on in the video...
Rain On Me, Ashanti - Yeah, I know, this one actually does have a story, but it's just so incredibly boring...It's a bad video, plain and simple...
I'm Glad, Jennifer Lopez - Uh, find an original idea for a video please...Ripping off Flashdance does nobody any good...
Mesmorize, Ja Rule ft. Ashanti - See above, except at least J. Lo's Flashdance rip off was well done...This Grease rip off was so horrible...And the tacked on ending that comes out of nowhere and has nothing to do with the rest of the video is just plain annoying...

Best videos of the year: 1. Johnny Cash-Hurt One of the most beautifully shot videos you will ever see. Truly touching when you think of all that's happened in the past year. 2. Outkast's Hey Ya Funny video. I remember the first time I saw it. The song and video are so campy, you just can't help but like it. The girls weren't dressed terribly in this video. 3. Coldplay's The Scientist One of the most memorable videos of the year. Simple song with a complex video. Hey how'd that car get up on the road like that?;) 4. Evanescence's Bring Me to Life I remember watching this video for the first time. I knew the song was going to be a hit after that. The video fits the album name 'Fallen' but the album certainly didn't do that for the first 7 months of the year. 5. Talib Kweli's Get By Very simplistic video that no one really got to watch. This is rap at it's best.
Worst videos of the year: 1. Ashanti's Rock Wit U (Awww Baby) Nothing bad to look at. Just a bad video and a horrible song. An ELEPHANT?!? 2. Hilary Duff's Why Not? Why? 3. (tie) Chingy's Right Thurr and Right Thurr Remix The two worst videos of the year quite possibly. It was bad enough he had the first one. Worst dance for a song even worse than the Achy Breaky. The remix was an unnecessary white background performance video. 4. John Mayer's Bigger Than My Body He just can't do music videos. Somebody take away his license. 5. Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys Get Low feat. the Ying Yang Twins The exact reason why I cannot stand most mainstream rap. You can count a few other videos in this too.

I forgot one of the WORST I've seen, Dream's "Crazy."
Super skanky, big hair, hoochie dance moves all inside some Egyptian pyramid and it's still one of the most boring videos I've seen. All of the girls have the same ugly big hairdo which makes them look like four clones doing bad dance moves in front of some blue screen.
