In your opinion, what are the top pop classic songs that have been remembered for years now and will be remembered for years to come? Try not to include any songs from the 2000's on your list because it's still hard to tell what songs will become pop classics years from now.
1. Celine Dion-My Heart Will Go On 2. Madonna-Like A Virgin 3. Whitney Houston-I Will Always Love You 4. Micheal Jackson-Beat It 5. Britney Spears-Baby One More Time 6. Toni Braxton-Unbreak My Heart 7. Mariah Carey and Boys II Men-One Sweet Day 8. TLC-Waterfalls 9. Ricky Martin-Livin Lavida Loca 10. Christina Aguilera-Genie In A Bottle
close calls: Alanis Morisette-Ironic Backstreet Boys-I Want It That Way Fugees-Killing Me Softly

Most of those songs are too recent to be considered pop classics.
The Police - Every Breathe You Take Michael Jackson - Billie Jean Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive Abba - Dancing Queen Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You The Knack - My Sharona Madonna - Like A Virgin Prince - When Doves Cry Journey - Open Arms

Hilary Duff - So Yesterday I don't understand what made you mention that song. ??? Anyway, I could name so many '80s hits that I consider classics...as for the '60s and '70s, practically all the songs I know from that era I consider classics. I agree it's too early to classify '90s hits as classics, but I do agree with radiorules concering some of the songs he mentioned. Songs like "My Heart Will Go On", "One Sweet Day", and "I Will Always Love You" are bound to become '90s standards. Others I can think of include "Gangsta's Paradise", "Iris", and of course, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" among others.

Janet - "Love Will Never Do (Without You) This song/video will always be remember as Janet ushering her sexy image in. Before this she never really was protrayed as a sex symbol.
Faith Hill - "Breathe" & "The Way You Love Me" Both of these songs were huge on pop radio and still get plenty of recurrent spins. I believe these songs will be consider Faith's best.
Shania Twain - "You're Still The One" & "That Don't Impress Me Much" See above notes for Faith Hill.
Whitney Houston - "The Greatest Love Of All" One of the hits that defined her as a powerful force .
Madonna - "Vogue" For obvious reasons.
Destiny's Child - "Say My Name" This was the first time DC really blew up. They had several hits before this one. But overall I think this will be consider one of their best.

"C'est La Vie" is DEFINATELY not a classic. And the other 3 i've never heard of!!! I'd say it definitely is a classic. Over 400 people waited in line to meet them at Sam Goody in Daly City in 2000! Unfortunately, I was not living in the Bay Area at that time. Four hours worth of people waited in line to meet Myra at Best Buy in Santa Rosa in 2001, so that makes "Miracles Happen" a classic. It was also voted as the fifth best homework song on Radio Disney in 2002! And thirty minutes worth of people waited in line to meet Angela Via at the Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View in 2000, so that makes "Picture Perfect" a hit. I was going to include "I Don't Care," since an hour's worth of people waited in line to meet her at Target in San Bruno in late-2000, but I only wanted to include one song per artist. C'est la vie.

1999 was a great year for classics
1. Baby One More Time 2. Livin Lavida Loca 3. Genie In A Bottle 4. I Want It That Way
The reason i'm gonna say GIAB is a little more classic than IWITW is because GIAB ended up higher on the 1999 year end chart, despite being released months after IWITW.

I actually agree with all these even if I don't like them that much. I disagree with the notion that any are "a little more classic" than others however. A classic is a classic. Is Led Zepplin's Ramble On any more classic than the Who's Won't Get Fooled Again? Of course not, they are both classics.

Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven
ok so the song is more rock oriented, but it's definately not a heavy rock song, and i'd see nothing wrong with seeing this played on pop radio
The Eagles - Hotel California
i know some people will say "This is overrated" but i definately think this is a classic, no question about it
Michael Jackson - Beat It
This was in his period where he OWNED music, practically everything he did turned into gold.
The Police - Every Breath You Take
This may not be amongst my favorites of all-time, but a classic it can most certainly be.
Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
another example of what this guy did for music.. practically everything from "Thriller" could be on this list
The Beatles - Twist & Shout
you could list anything from these guys and have it here.. one of the first bands to release classic after classic
The Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
yet another group that have released many classics, i decided to list this one
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
another song that may be viewed as rock leaning, but this has such a great feel, it's got to be included
Bob Seger - Old Time Rock & Roll
closing this list, another rock flavored song, most of these old rock songs would fit rather perfectly on today's pop format. This is song could get you on the dance floor in a hurry.

Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin Hotel California - The Eagles Bohemian Raphsody - Queen Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana Billy Jean - Michael Jackson Love Me Do - The Beatles Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys Losing My Religion - R.E.M. With Or Without You - U2 Livin' On A Prayer - Bon Jovi Still Loving You - Scorpions Basket Case - Scorpions Another Brick In The Wall pt 2 - Pink Floyd Enter Sandman - Metallica

1.) "Wannabe" ~ Spice Girls 2.) "Baby One More Time" ~ Britney Spears 3.) "Like a Virgin" ~ Madonna 4.) "I Want It That Way" ~ Backstreet Boys 5.) "Thriller" ~ Michael Jackson 6.) "Bye Bye Bye" ~ *Nsync 7.) "Genie in a Bottle" ~ Christina Aguilera 8.) "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" ~ Belinda Carlisle 9.) "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" ~ Cyndi Lauper 10.) "Livin' La Vida Loca" ~ Ricky Martin
The reason I put more recent music toward the top is because that is when pop seemed to be at its biggest. I also didn't put in songs like "Ironic" and "Hotel California" because I do coonsider those pop.

"Say My Name" isn't really a pop classic.. It was another of Destiny's Child's repeating-line songs looking at most of the lists... many songs are on the "well, maybe one day they'll be classics" list... but i see the majority as no possible way (especially something like "So Yesterday" by Hilary Fluff)

"Say My Name" isn't really a pop classic.. It was another of Destiny's Child's repeating-line songs "Say My Name" is a classic. It basically launched DC3 (or 4 at the time) into superstardom. Sure there previous stuff made them stars, but "Say My Name" really made them big.

"Say My Name" is a classic. It basically launched DC3 (or 4 at the time) into superstardom. That doesn't make it a "classic". Every artist has a launching song, but every one of them is not a "classic".
