What's the point of subtitles? I can see if it's to add a title to a song like with Chantal's 'Flying Home (Brenda's Song)' or something but with the new Default song, it's stupid. '(Taking My) Life Away'. So the song is called 'Life Away' with 'Taking My' just added in?

Because you're like "Wha-what?" when you hear Samantha Mumba's song is called "Don't Need You To." "Don't need you to" what? " Don't Need You To (Tell Me I'm Pretty) [To Make Me Feel Beautiful]."

It's usually there to say what the song is better known by. Like "Powerless" is the name of Nelly Furtado's song, but if you just heard it on the radio you would guess it was "Say What You Want."

Yeah, i forgot to mention Nelly's song but 'Powerless' is a good example of good usage. 'On The Radio (Remember The Days)' is the same idea but I think it's unnecessary.

In "Doo Wop (That Thing)" you would think it would be called "That Thing." For "Family Affair," with the title not in the lyrics, there could be tons of wrong guesses for the title. But it doesn't have a subtitle. There are two types of subtitles. Some are a continuous phrase with the words not in parenthesis and some aren't. "Powerless (Say What You Want)" is not a continous phrase. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" is a continuous phrase.

I like subtitles that aren't in continuous parts of the song, like the aforementioned "Powerless (Say What You Want)", where the subtitle's more obvious, and the actual title's either elsewhere in a song or not in it at all. However, if they're mentioned together in a song, I prefer if it's just one continuous title

One of the most asinine subtitle (or title, for that matter)- No More (Baby I'ma Do Right).

3LW's song is a case of another purpose for subtitles, to distinguish a song from another song with the same main title. They released the song shortly after "No More" by Ruff Endz was a hit.
Mary's "Family Affair" was especially confusing because she says "no more drama" and "dance for me" in the song, but those are also titles of other songs on the album.

Five For Fighting - Superman (It's Not Easy)
This is a good example of a subtitle that's easily identified, with the title not mentioned in the lyrics.

Nine Days - Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)
Another good example of separated subtitles, it may be harder to guess the actual title, but it's in there!

I think the sticker on Samantha Mumba's "Gotta Tell You" read Gotta Tell You (Don't Wanna Love You) to attract buyers who did not know her song was called "Gotta Tell You."

The most bizarre one of all time:
Hoku - "How Do I Feel (The Burrito Song)".
It's a pretty good song actually... and it's not about burritos!

Hoku - "How Do I Feel (The Burrito Song)". It's a pretty good song actually... and it's not about burritos! Hoku said when she was recording the track, that was what she and the producer referred to it and that's how it stuck.
