don't have the best first week sales. Two examples: Britney broke through the genre and Christina had the better first week sales. I don't remember December 1999 sales totals, so I don't know if Britney could have sold more then than Christina's first week. Michelle Branch broke through the genre and Avril and Vanessa had the better first week and peak week sales. Michelle Branch becoming popular could have helped Avril more than Michelle. Michelle Branch's third album was the opposite of the second, the second had the longevity, and the third and the better peak week (her popular albums are her second and third). Which had the better first week and peak week sales, "Backstreet Boys" or "'N Sync"? I want to know if that fits my pattern. The famous diamond grunge albums Nirvana: "Nevermind" and Pearl Jam: "Ten" were released four weeks apart with Pearl Jam coming first, but that's too close together to be an example for or against my argument.

I'm tempted to say Angela Via broke a genre, but I can't put my finger on what that genre might be. Hmmm.

Well the second album had the higher peak position, but the first had the most weeks on chart. I already knew "Backstreet Boys" had the higher certification. Since neither album debuted near its peak position, it doesn't support my argument. It also means that the two top certified albums released in 1997 both were not Number 1s. The other one is Shania Twain: "Come On Over." Has any album spent over two years in the Top 100 since "*N Sync"? Norah Jones should be the next artist to do this.

Britney's BOMT CD spent all of 1999 in the top ten.

Britney's BOMT CD spent all of 1999 in the top ten. I'm commenting about first week sales. I know it had longevity. Michelle Branch who I also cited also had longevity. Thanks for supporting Britney for once.
